    8:39 Gyro data looks smoother but the jittery artifacts of the window pane in the background are distracting. I prefer Canon's stabilization in this situation. (FX3 Owner)

      Gyro stabilization will have artifacts if the shutter speed isn't fast enough. Armando was probably filming in the 180 degree shutter rule.

      He should have turned off in body IBIS and used a higher shutter speed to gyro stabilization to properly work, then it doesn't have those jitters.

    • @vladimirtalijan
      @vladimirtalijan 3 года назад +9

      @@lukastemberger 7 stops of NDs are not enough for pretty much anything, you cannot use even f2.8 lenses in daylight settings, let alone primes so you still need to use external NDs. C70 has 10 stops which is enough for even f1.0 lenses on a brightest summer day, it has scratch audio without the handle, much faster startup time, better battery life, native RF/EF support, much better ergonomics and way better color science, it's the closest thing to the ARRI color you can get. Sony knows that, and that's why you get the full frame sensor in it for the similar money. The problem is, you can easily turn C70 into a full frame if you need it.

      @@vladimirtalijan @Vladimir Talijan It's totally fine being a Canon fanboy, I just have to reply in case someone takes your post seriously. You've obviously never used the FX6... I have the FX6 and a friend has the C70.
      FX6 has scratch audio without the handle. It starts up in a second. It has a cinematic CineEI exposure system and color science that has surpassed Canon (you must be talking about several year old Sony mirrorless cameras... Ergonomics are on a completely next level compared to C70, which is basically a weird looking bulky dslr.

Night and day in terms of application. Not even in the same ballpark. And c70 8-10 stops is just layering lower stop nds leading to quite a bit of color and sharpness loss. Can confirm about the screens.
    If I'm not mistaken, the C70 has Canon's Wide DR, which as I understand it, is pretty similar in concept to Sony's S-Cinetone.
    I don't know if that stabilization test makes sense with the cameras on top of each other like that. It adds weight and messes with the balance which means you have to grip it tighter which can add a lot of movement. Why did you choose to do that vs testing each one separately? The catalyst software is crazy good though.
    I believe the FX3 does have timecode, it just doesn't have timecode out.
    Both are great, depends on what you need as a filmmaker.

      This doesn’t quite pertain to you and it kind of does. I started with the GH5, I saved and dumped a bunch of money on an A7R4… I’m back on my GH5. The Sony was nice, the photos were of amazing quality BUT I didn’t feel as though I was really getting much better results to justify the price, I sold my A7R4 and I’m sitting on the money. From a photography standpoint, yeah the bokeh is nice on the full frame and the Sony autofocus is amazing BUT I figured out how to make my GH5 work for me. So what was I really getting in the switch, bigger files, the lack of a fully articulating screen, the loss of a proper touch screen. I know the A7S3 has the new menus and fully articulating screen. The point I’m making is I switched and realized that I’m doing the same work I’ve done, and realized the work I was doing on the A7R4 I was able to do with my GH5. I don’t think I’d look to upgrade again until my gear no longer meets my needs. It was an expensive dipping of my toes into a new system. I’m photography mostly, so things might be a little different for video people, but I think if your gear works well for you, small things that you have gotten used to on your current gear just aren’t worth the change to a whole new system. I could understand it if you were currently a canon DSLR user and were considering going mirrorless, I can attest going from DSLR to mirrorless was definitely worth the upgrade to be able to see the photos in a dark viewfinder after you take them to check the exposure without any background light and to properly preview the image. Also the ability to have that enlarged view if you switch to manual focus for macro shots and stuff really helps, getting manual focus on a DSLR was a bit of a tricky situation. So I can see BIG upgrades but little things, nah just not worth it in my opinion. I hope that makes sense.

      @@MrOmniscience absolutely! hopefully I didn’t discourage you entirely, get what you want obviously, I just know it’s a LOT of money to switch for little things and if your reasonably happy with what you have, will $15,000 or more push you from that reasonably happy to totally happy lol and is that tiny amount worth that much? Best wishes to you and your endeavors whatever your decision is! As for canon gear I keep hearing of a rumored R5C, if you are looking to replace the GH5, what’s 6 months in the big picture of things? • @BalaKrishna-bq5iz
      @BalaKrishna-bq5iz 3 года назад

      @@Miguel_Molina Man, you're funny. The purpose of dgo sensor is to eek out more Dynamic Range even though it costs rolling shutter performance. FX6/FX3 sensor without dgo gets you the same DR with virtually no rolling shutter. So, all dgo is doing here is bail out a bad sensor. Go check the tests from cined. I've used C70 and despite considering it at one point I'm glad I didn't buy one for myself. That would've look even more foolish now with the amount of options we've on market at that price. Also, for some reason AF on it is very unreliable unlike other Canon cameras. I'll bet it has something to do with reading the sensor twice.

    • @Miguel_Molina
      @Miguel_Molina 3 года назад +4

      @@BalaKrishna-bq5iz lmfao you do know the sensor in the c70 is the same sensor in the c300 mkiii, an $11k camera. and you just called it a bad sensor. the sensor in the fx6 is the same sensor in the fx3. • @BalaKrishna-bq5iz
      @BalaKrishna-bq5iz 3 года назад +1

      @@Miguel_Molina Lol. Just coz a sensor was used in a slightly higher priced option doesn't nake the sensor better. C300 mkiii was priced such not for its sensor but for other features that fit in a more pro workflow. If it does, C70 wouldn't cost half as much or a7siii wouldn't cost half as much as FX6. So, you played yourself with that c300 reference.
      Don't give me this "industry" pep talk, just tell me how it is supposedly better? Purely "Sensor" characteristics comes mostly down to Dynamic Range, ISO performance, Rolling Shutter. All of which are proven slightly to quite a bit worse than the FX3/FX6 sensor. I've used it and its DR barely match FX3/FX6 but only if dgo is turned on so that it reads the sensor twice for highlights and shadows. The result: an unacceptable rolling shutter four this day and age at that price. If you go 60p or more, rolling shutter improves but dynamic range is same or slightly worse than Fuji XT3... because dgo no longer works.
      I'd gladly take dgo sensor if it provides a significant DR advantage (which is why I even rented it in the first place) which c70 doesn't. So, what's the point? And on top of having no benefits over competition or even its own mirrorless, its not even a full frame at least.
      You probably don't even know what you're talking about. Don't fanboy over me. I own and work with gear on 4 different systems, including Canon. But we've to be objective about how we spend our 💰

    I first have to say this isn't a fair comparison as the price points are completely off. Not to knock the work put into the video, its still a great video to watch, just not apples to apples. A proper comparison would be the FX6 vs C70. That is what I was comparing before settling on the C70.
    One thing to consider with both these cameras is your workflow. I opted Canon c70 as I felt having phantom powered XLR with auto leveling, built in ND Filters, and the stabilization in camera. Shooting 100 weddings a year, the more I can have done in camera the better. Just consider all of your factors.
    The other main point to consider is updates via firmware, today Canon just dropped eye AF as well as full tap to track, face and eye for 4k 120fps. The camera also shoots RAW internal thanks to update 1.3 so it's really a killer all around option.

    I run a camera channel called "Power of Drew" and I've owned all these camera's. However, I ended up selling the X-t4, Gh5s, and E-M1x and bought a c70. Which left me with the Canon and the A7s3. However, I quickly noticed issues with the image and colors on the a7s3 versus the c70.... bottom line. I hated them. So, in a twist I actually sold the a7s3 for more than I got it for new and bought a Canon R5 refurbished from Canon themselves.... and blam. Beautiful. What people WONT tell you about the sony is the sony look. I.E. digital. Oversharpend, even at -7 sharpening, and the colors. It was the best decision ever. I think Canon has a better camera here with the R5. You just get a more filmic look. Now, I know people will say, "but the overheating bro," And I must say I NEVER expereinced any overheating yet. I shoot in the 4k upscaled from 8k in CLOG3 at 24fps. However, I also have the c70 to lean on when I need it. And, I also own an Atomots... which they just updated this week so you get 5k from the 4k. Its beautiful.

    Personally, it's been a tug of war for me between choosing the FX3 or C70. But, ultimately, I chose the FX3 because of the AF, the size allowing for quick shots, and the full sized XLR's. Together they make for an excellent pro package when shooting run and gun, but, without sacrificing any quality. That being said, the internal ND's of the C70 made it a tough choice. But, the somewhat flimsy flipout screen and the occasionally unresponsiveness of the C70's AF settled the score. That being said, I'd be happy with either camera.
    P.S. Normally, I am not a fan of "comparison" videos especially when the prices are different between the products. But, you did an excellent job of comparing these two cameras without showing undue favoritism or being overly critical, and highlighting the best features of both. Great job, Armando. Glad I subbed.

    i think autofocus, build quality, no SDI and no raw are where canon decides to cut corners with this camera. They have to make the camera a bit weaker in some areas to meet that relatively low price point for the camera. But i wonder if the auto focus capability of the c70 is the same as the c300 mkiii, since they both share the same sensor and processor.

FX3 is my go to for almost everything like you said before and I said in one of your videos "I just find myself picking this camera all the time because is an absolute joy to shoot with it.. it's really hard to explain" But my C70 has a special place in the corporate environment as well... We all know that in the corporate world is really more about how the camera "looks like" than the features lol so in an environment where I have control of the lighting and the camera is just sitting in a tripod for a talking head shot then C70 is my go to but literary everything else (Weddings, Music Videos, B-Roll) Sony FX3 -- now this brings me to this question Armando is your FX3 overheating with the bottom battery because is covering the exhaust vent in the bottom? I was having that issue a lot so I stopped using it, it made me sad because I really like that combination.

    The FX3 really is a direct competitor to the R5. However, what your review shown here is that even the C70 is lacking a lot of the image quality features to the FX3, which shouldn’t have been the case. @@mondobytes thanks for the reply and sorry that I wasn’t completely clear in my first comment. What I meant is just speaking from the video specs point of view and price. They are both roughly around the same price last time I checked and the A1 is far more expensive. While of course the R5 shoots 8K, everything else from both no ND filters, having Raw capability, full frame, body design… It is much similar. But anyways, what I got out from your video is that although the FX3 is part of Sony’s cinema line, it operates more like a mirrorless camera. However it’s video capabilities and image quality really out shines even the Canon C70, which works more like a cinema camera, but it’s S35, more expensive and worse built quality… that’s why I mentioned Canon really needs to put out an entry cinema camera that doesn’t get stripped back to just protect their existing higher-end cameras like the C300/C500, or else starters are gonna just buy into Sony’s eco system because they offer better video specs at a lower price.
