I was expecting it to go flying the moment the engine seized, the rate at which the kart came to a stop from that speed took me by surprise. The thing sure is light. Edit: looking at it again it looks more like the driver just reacted quickly on the brakes, wow
He was already on the brakes, trail braking into the corner so a little extra pressure would be instinctive and easy to apply. The seize was likely due to lack of lubrication on a closed throttle after the high speed run to the corner.
As soon as the engine failed, i pulled the clutch to gain the control back, then I didn’t brake too hard to avoid stopping in the middle of that corner (which is super fast btw). The rest is just me waiting to get into the grass in reverse lol
@@raydavison2972 I gotcha. It's really cool to see the differences in the behavior between a kart and a car during similar situations, such as recovering from loss of traction. Being a tenth of the weight makes all the difference huh

How often is this? I know that engine breaking is not good for 2 strokes, and I guess that was the problem here. But then, how else are you supposed to drive?
Idk for all engines, but if it’s not built super tight and you don’t turn it too hard, they usually get pretty good life. Rotax are very durable. They’re just complicated.
engine braking isn’t bad for a 2-stroke if it isn’t sustained. They have enough oil to run without fuel for roughly 3-4 seconds and after that they’ll have dramatically increased wear and possible engine failure if prolonged.
You always use engine braking with these KZ engines with no problem at all, if you keep their maintenance on point. Instead, this particular engine felt really weird at mid-RPMs, but my mechanic insisted on trying it and this happened
I've always considered the speed of a corner to be apex speed, so I'd consider the two before that one to be faster. The entry speed into the braking zone of that corner was faster though.
I thought it sounded like it was having a hard time in the mid/high rpm range. seemed like it pulled decently down low but then it just flattened out as the rpm's climbed.
