  • Have you ever wondered what it's like to walk up and down every single aisle in a Japanese supermarket for 1 hour? Look no further! This video does just that. Come and explore the produce section! And the fish section! And even the bento section! Wait, is that the candy section? Does it ever end? You'll have to watch and find out! Why is this video so damn long?!?!
In all honesty, I'm sorry this video is so long. But I wanted to give the full experience and not cut out anything. Also, I made this video the way that I want, not how other people want or expect.
Feel free to pause the video and take a break and continue watching it later. You don't have to watch the entire video in one sitting.
This was filmed in Mammy Mart (マミーマート) mami-mart.com/, a supermarket chain found around the Kanto region of Japan. They're one of the larger grocery stores in Japan and they pack so much stuff into one building.
If you have any questions about anything you saw in the video, please let me know in the comments below! And if you have suggestions for future videos, please let me know as well.
Thanks for watching and please hit the Like button and subscribe! Cheers!!!

Oh my! I remember getting lost inside a Japanese supermarket. I usually go for the onigiris, iced coffees, pre-sliced salads with dressings, and the weird Kit-Kat flavors. I missed the Vit.C water that I guzzled a lot during my stay in Japan because I got a really bad case of runny nose in the first couple of weeks. Among other things, I miss the dried veggie chips. They're so good! Thanks for the tour, Cory. More than anything, I wish I could visit Japan again. Cheers!

Haha, 'have I ever wondered what it's like to walk up and down every single aisle in a Japanese supermarket for 1 hour?' Well yes, yes I have. However, I'm a woman of action not just one partial to tapping out enthusiastically long, strange comments on RUclips videos and so I HAVE spent a few hours inspecting supermarket shelves in Japan in person. In fact, I do it with great excitement in every country I visit and I never get bored of adding 'supermarket visit' to every travel itinerary I plan. Love it, so glad I'm not the only one who is genuinely thrilled by the mundane, everyday world around when examined through the warped lens that is a foreign culture-- hey it's the exact same yet totally different! Thanks for the video Cory! :D

I'm just in love with the funny music they play 😂 it's so cute! I hope all of the grocery stores in Japan play music like that.
The sound is so much more fun than the boring pop and American 80s classics that play in the stores here in the States.

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  2 года назад +2

It's funny because many supermarkets have their own kind of jingles on loop. I read something about the psychology of why they are so loud and annoying, but can't remember the specifics about it. Something like the repetitive and annoying sound makes people shop faster and buy more. Then there are some other stores that just straight up play radio pop music. I was just in a store that was playing the Neverending Story theme song, so random! And then followed by Dancing Queen by ABBA. Needless to say, it's already my favorite supermarket. hahaha

Thanks for the tour of Japan! Very far away from most of us in the world but amazing for its millennia of history and highly developed arts and culture. Fascinating to see how many things in a supermarket are familiar around the world, but also how many items are peculiar to the local customs, agriculture, and tastes.

Thank you for the video. I love doing a walk around in grocery stores whenever I visit a new country so you gave me a treat while travel is still forbidden. I laughed when you picked up the dusted noodles..."keep it separated" went through my brain and you repeated ... fabulous! I'm a Canadian so the shout out for the syrup made me smile. Love to see the fish and ready made section, liquor section was unreal (selling it in grocery stores is a new thing here). Candy!!! I usually visit Korean grocery stores for a selection of treats, snacks and rice toppings that are either Korean or Japanese; I always buy way too much because it looks so good. Lemon ice - smart, small carts are always the first ones taken in our grocery stores and recycling for store credit...awesome! Not a chocolate fan but milk over dark. Kimchee section in most grocery stores - very popular for flavour and the good "gut health" trend. Sorry, my comment is almost as long as the video ... thank you again...I really enjoyed it :)

Really enjoyed your video. You must be exhausted covering the whole supermarket.
I absolutely adore this store & all their fabulous produce. However i could never afford to shop there as everything is so vastly more expensive than here in the UK. Including what was possibly the most expensive tin of spam in the world 😱 . But still i really do love it all so much, thank you for taking the trouble of making this fantastic video 👍

Thanks, Stephen, for watching and leaving a comment. Yeah, it's pretty tiring going up and down every aisle. But I enjoy showing people what exists here as much as possible. I know other channels tend to give short little highlights and briefly mention some stuff in like a 5-minute video, and to me, while it's interesting, it doesn't give people any sense of what it's actually like to be in a supermarket or other place.
And yeah, as someone who lived in Hawaii and ate Spam regularly for only $1.25 per can, it hurts my soul to see $5 cans of Spam. hehehe
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more!

Hey Cory, some ideas for your channel. I think what your channel has always boiled down to is the adventure/casual walking aspect. To evolve that further, create a show format where you start from some spot, have a short to medium walk, and then transition to an exploration of the place like this video, and then transition to another short walking part back to the station or point of origin. Things like book stores, post offices, really any day-in-the-life spot you might think of. You'll get the walking part of your normal streams where you can point out the sights, but you also get a chance to highlight specific japanese businesses or cultural elements that can only be talked about or explained by entering some of the places you walk by.
Going off of that, picking up a hobby that works with recording might do well. It could be model kits, banzai trees, camping. Whatever is something that interests you, is affordable, and lends well with recording. How you go about the hobby, and what materials are available that are unique to Japan would give it an angle that other channels might not be able to provide. And you can wrap that into the walk-to-places video by going to the hobby store and exploring, asking for tips on what to work on next etc.
Good luck! I hope to see your channel grow to your old view counts again. Being an English speaker in a foreign country is still a pretty rare thing so you have that going for you to stand out.

But this is what I get for not uploading for a long time... the algorithm has deleted me from the system and I gotta start back from the beginning.
