This is a Japanese Grocery Store Supermarket Tour in Tokyo Japan. I’ve always wanted to show you inside of a Japanese supermarket and I finally got permission. So I’m going to be taking you around showing some of my favorite items as well as the prices included. Japan like most countries have grocery stores of all different sizes. In Tokyo they are generally smaller due to cost of real estate but this Japanese supermarket is relatively large for the city. It is a great example of what Japanese super markets have to offer. There are so many different types of Japanese food that it's fun simply going inside and taking a look around.

it's called a fruit trifle "try fall", as in rhyming with eiffel in eiffel tower.
it's very common in uk. layers of fruit, cream, custard, and crumbly biscuit-cake layer.
but this one seems to be mostly fruit and cream.
i didn't realise it was a uk native dish. was surprised by how surprised you were with it.

My wife used to work in a supermarket and people would often like, remove milk from the fridge then decide not to buy it and just dump it on a shelf somewhere so it'd spoil. My old local Woolies has a sushi bar though, similar to in this video, but not nearly as good. I also had a bit of a giggle as he was saying all these products i can't even pronounce then he got to the trifle and called it "trif-el" hahaha

The seafood looks incredibly fresh. The prices are MUCH cheaper in that store, a small pack of nigiri sushi costs around $13-15 here, and it’s definitely not the freshest seafood, lol. A bottle of kikoman soy sauce here, is double the cost of the Japanese store. 😆

I'm not sure if they do it anymore, but when I lived in Japan in 2007, if I went to the supermarket and bought any kind of cold or frozen food, they would put a bit of dry ice in a bag and put that in my groceries to keep the cold items cold until I got home.

It’d be cancelled after two seasons “just because”. As much as I like what they do fund, they have a nagging tendency towards shooting themselves in the foot with promoting and marketing. Or budgets.
Then again? If it kept the same budget and setup, it’d likely be cheap enough to keep it as a mainstay. Still a negative since it would probably leave RUclips.

Thank you for making this! I'm moving to Japan in a matter of months and for some reason the prospect of buying products from the supermarket is really exciting to me. This video has helped me gain a better understanding of what to expect! I was most impressed with the natto aisle - the local Japanese supermarket here has a few different varieties, but not any of the cool flavors and variants you showed off. I'd love if you were to make a Part 2 - would you be willing to show off the ice cream and soft drink section? Thanks again!

    • @spiffyflinger9174
      @spiffyflinger9174 5 месяцев назад +2

@rickityrox814 Actually, you might not have to worry too much. It's much easier and faster to get your visa if you already have an employment offer. What I did was I applied for a school in Tokyo that was seeking international employees, which I applied for here in America. Once I got the job, they actually handled the visa paperwork for me, which is pretty common practice when Japanese companies hire Americans. Because the paperwork is being handled by a reliable company, the visa comes through way faster than it would otherwise. Hopefully that helps!

@@spiffyflinger9174 Thanks for the reply! I know that the cost of living can be high in Japan. Do you think that a teacher’s salary would be sufficient enough to still have an enjoyable experience in Japan?

That's what I miss most about being in Japan: the variety of seafood you can easily get
Edit: And also thinly sliced meat, oh how I wish that was easier to come by where I live!!!!

Love this! I wish you had this video when visited this supermarket in Kyoto for the first time last month. We went during the evening and they were selling the pre packed deli foods at discount prices. I grabbed some 780 yen sushi platters down to 500 yen. Pretty amazing deal. All of us tourists were gobbling these up! I was so sad I couldn't bring all this amazing food back home to the US haha.

That's was awesome. Been waiting for video like this for long while. To get a proper look at a Japanese grocery store. I'm amazed at all sauces they have. I love individual packages of things they offer like the rice, tomato sauce and so. I wish they had those here in US. I love the dessert section I would spend so money there. Yes please do another one. I would love see like dairy section, bread/pastry section if they have one, and the produce section. I'm not sure why but I love seeing grocery stores in other countries. So happy you were able to get permission to make this video and had the great idea to make it.

  • @TOM-C.

To be honest, the food there seems rather inexpensive compared to the US. The fresh fish seemed a tad high, but the premade bento-box's, and other packaged food seemed to be half the cost of similar US premade meals at the supermarket. And, the meats seem really cheap compared to the US, again, half what we pay! If I was eating common Japanese food as you stated, I'd have a meat slicer for my kitchen prep, no need to buy meat pre-sliced. I may get one because I just realized I can slice potatoes, fruits, and other veggies with it as well. No need for a mandolin which can be dangerous as I nearly sliced my thumb off several months ago using one! 👍😎✌🗽🎄🎅🦃🤶🎁
