Great demo - was exactly what I was after about MSB LSB & PC" as I would run this through multi midi mode on the Akai MPC Live with other portable synthesizers & side chain it all via a sound card. Even the manuals.roland supply online don't have program change information.

Thank you very much for this nice MIDI demonstration; though I'm still struggling through the pile of all keyboard demos along youtube channels. They all seem to have one common point missing which is that no one explaining **clearly and sharply** which keyboard is most suitable for which purpose? I know the fact that each user has their own needs and also each device can be (at least theoretically) used for all purposes too, but I also belive that there is a good / proper use for each device according to its design target just like a school bus vs. hatchback vs. convertible; each can take you to school but in quite different (or smilar ?) ways...
So consider the rough keyboard categories :
    1- digital grand pianos
    2- digital portable pianos
    3- digital portable grands (DGX)
    4- synthesizers
5- arranger workstations like Tyros, Genos
6- all purpose pro devices like PSR-SX900
7- all purpose beginners / amateurs like PSR-EW463
And consider the following use scenerios :
    1- Classical Concert Live (pro)
2- Pop Rock R&B Jazz Concert Live (pro)
3- Live entertainment in Weddings, Clubs and Parties
4- Studio Recording for an album of any genre
    5- Music Composition
    6- Music Teaching and Learning
    7- Home entertainment
Now can someone point me to which devices best fit into which categories from each brand ?

The explanation is very good, but it is not clear to me which buttons I should press so that each channel of the XM is controlled separately.
That is, how do I configure the scene so that I can sequence it externally?
    Part 1-Channel 1.
    Part 2-Channel 2.
    Etc.
    ---
La explicación está muy bien, pero no me queda claro qué botones debo pulsar para que cada canal del XM sea controlado por separado.
Es decir cómo tengo que configurar la escena para que pueda secuenciarlo externamente
    Parte 1-Canal 1.
    Parte 2-Canal 2.
    Etc.

Would be great if the tutorial also explained how everything was plugged in and connected (cable-wise). Does anyone else in the thread have any insight on that?
In my case, I have a Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88 as a controller keyboard (plugged in via USB to my computer) - so what cables are needed to connect with the Jupiter-XM? And do I need to disable the internal speakers on the Jupiter?

Hello. Wondering if I could get help to configure my Elektron Digitakt to control my Roland Jupiter XM. I am unsure of settings for the Digitakt in terms of midi settings as MSB does not seem to be able to be set to 0. On the Digitakt the settings are as follows:
BANK, SBNH, PROG, with other midi settings on the Digitakt. I have configured the Digitakt to send clock, transport and program data. I have both set to midi channel 14 and the XM receiving program, bank and exclusive data is all set to ON. Ideally I'd love to control the individual parts of the scenes to use the Jupiter XM in a multitimbral mode. I have my midi devices in the following order:
-an Arturia Keystep going MIDI IN into the Digitakt
-using the Digitakt to control the Jupiter XM, a Digitone, an AEROS Loop Studio, and a TC Helicon Voicelive 3 Extreme - all attached to the Digitakt through MIDI OUT using a Midi Solutions Quadra Thru (1 midi in to 4 midi outs).
Any help with this is appreciated.

Tried getting it going but it just stops sounds all together when every I add in MSB LSB on the AKIAI MPC (same thing as event list editor in Logic Pro). SH4D seems to be bad with MIDI as well. My JV 1010 & Blofeld (1999 & 2009) work perfectly well with no hassle. Great video though.

Is there a published list somewhere of the values that you need to input into the Nord in order to control different external synthesizers? For example, is it possible to program performance changes, etc. on a Korg wavestate this way?

Wait so can I buy a cheap midi keyboard that has more keys and use it as a replacement for the xm keys? Can I use a usb connector to power the midi keyboard to xm ? And then boom I can play with more keys, so I can use it without connecting a laptop. I like the portability of the xm that’s why I’m trying to get it.

Hi, I have a Jupiter X (Not XM) with a YAMAHA MODX8+. I'm going by this video but my Jupiter X doesn't have the 'On' selection on Remote kbd. It actually gives me the choices: MIDI IN, USB MEM, USB COMP and OFF.
Also I've managed to MIDI my MODX playing through my Jupiter X which is the opposite of what I want to do, can anyone help with this?

  • @frankweber356
    @frankweber356 3 года назад

Dear Tony, i tried everything you said, and i have still some Questions. 1 ) Why do i have to select MSB 85 ? Why not start from the beginning, Bank 0. 2 ) When i switch off KBD Midi Control the Jupiter X under Version 1.50 it only plays one channel, even when i select two Parts with one midi channel. In this mode i can play a solo sound seperatley on the Jupiter X, but i only hear one channel when my MPC Rennaissance triggering a pad. I would like have two pads triggered from the MPC and one solo sound played on the Jupiter X. If i turn on the KBD Midi Control, of course i hear all sounds in the Jupiter X when playing the Solosound. I even found the page where you can give any part a seperate Midichannel, but Jupiter X cannot trigger two sounds at the same time with the same channel coming from an external device in the KBD Midi control turned off. The solution would be to have the option to switch the KBD Midi Control on and off for each part seperatly, but unfortunatley this function can only be set globally. Thanks for reading my message in advance. Best regards Frank

Hey Frank, I think I can sorta answer your question about the "MSB" thingy. My Midi rig includes keyboards from 3 different manufacturers: Roland, Korg and Yamaha: all being controlled by a single Midi event processor that handles all the program changes, zoning, etc.
Each manufacturer seems to use a different MSB code to access their MIDI Program Changes. I found that Roland typically uses MSB 085; Yamaha typically uses MSB 063, and Korg typically uses MSB 000. The LSB number represents which "Bank" to find the program; and then the PC (program change) number is used to recall the exact program you're want to play. For Example: to recall a program for a Yamaha Motif: if you're wanting to recall the "Grand Piano" patch 001 from the PRE 1 bank, you would enter the codes: MSB 63; LSB 0; PC 0. Or another example: if you want to recall "Strings" patch #16 from the INTERNAL bank , you would enter: MSB 63; LSB 8; PC 15. Or yet another example: Say, you want to recall Performance # 22 that you've saved on Motif's Flash Memory SD card, you would enter: MSB 63; LSB 65; PC 21. Now, say you have a Korg Kronos and you're wanting to recall a patch 072 from the INT-B bank; you would enter: MSB 000; LSB 1; PC 071.
Typically, these MSB/LSB numbers can be easily found in the back of the keyboard manuals... in the DATA LIST section of the manual.
Hope this helped.. Sorry for any confusion.

If you have the remote kbd set to on in the settings the iarp is triggered as if you are playing the local keyboard.
