    Wow - hot scramble!!!!!!! Impressive camera work.
    Agree with every point you made.
    Guess there is Omega nav in in original. Not impossible to convert from GPS, with more awkward authentic operation. (Input longitude)
    The cockpit is no doubt a nightmare. Image working on rudder pedals. Withworth UNC screws and bolts, and lock wiring them. Replacing a windshield wiper motor and dropping a nut.
    Well - I swear my last purchase was A2A Comanche, but last month with TBM850, Piper M500 and Tecnam 2012. Everything with at last 100+ pages documentation, I put in basket and find my credit card. I give up.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks very much Øystein! I’m glad you enjoyed the scramble sequence and indeed that you felt the video broadly hit the nail on the head.
      If the Vulcan did have Omega NAV, it definitely would have been nice to see that as an option (I remember the CaptainSim 707 had Omega modelled, way back when CS *actually* made flight sim addons haha).
      I actually did my work experience with the RAF and spent about 90% of my time there lock-wiring things ha. Luckily, I was working in a much more spacious environment than the Vulcan XD
      Ahh, I think you will just have to accept defeat. The trouble is, most of us love aeroplanes and whilst the quality might vary from one addon to the next, we still want to get some appreciation of what a particular aircraft might have been like to fly (I know that’s certainly the case for me anyway). Just imagine that Santa came early this year haha ; )
      Happy flying once again and if I don’t catch you before, a very Merry Christmas to you and yours!

    Considering it got simbreif import. What aircraft would be the closest to the vulcan to choose from?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  10 месяцев назад

      Good question, Marc: I’d imagine someone will create a Vulcan profile at some point but, in the meantime, I’d have thought a Concorde profile would be your best bet (I could be completely wrong though haha). Both aircraft run 4 Rolls Royce Olympus engines. If you can generate a SimBrief profile and manually adjust the speed to keep the flight subsonic, that might give you some sort of representative figures to work with. There may be a better solution, that’s just off the top of my head. . .
      I hope that helps a little. Cheers and happy flying! : )

      Thanks very much!
      Well actually, in my last couple of videos (inspired my previous conversations), I have tried playing around a bit with touch-ups during editing haha. Nothing crazy though; primarily just adding a little bit more contrast and occasionally adding a little more blue shift to some scenes (again though, only to the external shots). I do plan on playing around with the Nvidia filters at some point although, it has to be said, the sim is looking pretty spectacular anyway, after SU14!

I love the idea of recreating Black Buck but, there’s no way I have the time for such a flight at the moment. A shorter group flight with some tanking, could be good fun, if the A2A modelling is even half decent.

    I love this aircraft and this addon , my first experience was as an Army cadet and we went to an air show and for the life of me I can't remember where it was but the Vulcan did it's display . And I instantly loved this huge Aircraft that performed like a Fighter considering it's size and that howell very haunting and added to it's deadly and huge impression . I was all set to join the Army as Infantry but in my family we had a RAF / Army back ground . Well after my Brother and Sister joined the RAF , I decided would do the same . Anyway after all the tests etc I was all set to join as a painter and sprayer , all was good until the CIO as it was known then ( Careers Information Office ) said that trade is closed at the moment but you have two options wait a year or two or pick from the trades you qualified for . Well to me it seemed RAF Fire Fighter was the most exciting so of I went to Swinderby basic training and then of to Manston for Fire Fighter training . We had various aircraft to do lift out training from Lightnings , Hunters and the larger aircraft like Vulcans and Helicopters well pretty much every aircraft and type that was or had been in the RAF . Also we burnt real aircraft in fuel pits and gained the experience of foam laying and magnesium fires !!!! , not easy to put out . How ever one huge aircraft we used to do lift out training was one Vulcan and what a nightmare . The AE and Nav where on the bottom level in two seats , you gained access from the nose wheel and lifted them out of their seats ( dummies of cause ) , that was a job in itself ....they had no ejector seats . Then after you had to climb a ladder up to the flight deck to get the two dummies out of the pilot and co-pilot seat and then lower them down to the nose wheel !!! hard work . Any of you RAF Fire Fighters that would have had to do that at your Stations as a regular part of training as we do , you have my admiration you must have arms like Charlie Atlas . Then my next experience was I was walking to my car at RAF Wittering when this huge roar and the ground vibrated and car alarms went off and when I looked up a Vulcan did a loop da loop over the airfield and then just flew of as nothing happened !!! . That was when they had the Vintage flight as well as Battle of Britain Flight , that same Vulcan was that last one flying and I find it sad it will never now fly again . How ever we now have this in our sim to experience . Thank you for your video very good and from now on ill be flying that mark that howells ,

      Thanks very much for sharing, Nathan! I’m really glad that the video / Vulcan brought back some good memories.
      It sounds like you had a great time with the RAF! The RAF careers officer basically told me to go swivel (they didn’t need pilots apparently) haha and I ended up somewhere else in life but, if the flying hadn’t worked out, I always really liked the idea of firefighting.
      My pleasure on the video! I do hope that you’re enjoying the Vulcan (I would imagine most of us have only been flying the 201 variant haha).
      Happy flying and all the best : )

      Thanks again, Peter!
      Indeed, it’s great having your own little “museum piece”, inside your PC. Of course, a virtual aircraft is never quite the same as the real deal but, on the flip side, one is also granted much more access to a virtual aircraft haha (and one can therefore get some sense of how she flew etc). I very much hope that Just Flight continue in this vein; they had a decent Tristar, Canberra and VC10 in FSX / P3D, so it would be nice to see those in MSFS (a Lightning, Buccaneer, Comet, BAC1-11, etc would all be very welcome also!).

      Haha, the manoeuvre itself would be easy enough to pull off; I’m usually rubbish at aero braking but, in the Vulcan, it’s getting the nose back *on* the runway that’s the tricky bit haha. Whether the flight model would replicate aero braking, I’ve no idea. . .

What would you be your advice for me. ? Thank you friend. ! Blue skies !

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Cali,
      Ooof, that’s a very tough one for me to answer haha. Firstly, we’re taking about a lot of money, so I can’t really tell you whether you should / shouldn’t spend it and secondly, there are lots of variables to consider (more than I could cover off in a single RUclips comment). Do you frequent PPRUNE at all? I think it’s a great starting point for these sorts of queries (at the time, I did a lot of research there myself): www.pprune.org/professional-pilot-training-includes-ground-studies-14/
      Whilst you won’t find any definite answers on PPRUNE, you’ll certainly find a lot of guidance for various options, possibilities and outcomes. If you read most of the pinned topics at least, I think that should give you a pretty good idea where you stand.
      My own personal advice:
      1) School and age are not necessarily a problem but, most airlines will be looking for a minimum level of qualifications and will most likely have their own entrance exams. Younger also seems to be preferable these days but, so long as you meet the requirements, age shouldn’t be a definite barrier to entry.
      2) Many airlines are hiring at the moment but, it only takes another oil / financial crisis, another global virus, another war, etc and that could all come to a grinding halt. The industry is very cyclical unfortunately and there is some luck involved as to the situation you find yourself in when you come out of training (if there aren’t any jobs when you finish training, then you will have to keep your ratings current in the meantime, which can be costly).
      3) Have you done any private flying at all? A PPL is potentially a good place to start. I know commercial flying is typically the goal but, if you actually want to have fun whilst flying, GA is so much better haha. Have you thought about getting your ratings bit by bit instead (not necessarily the best option, but a more manageable one)?
      4) The job is great in many respects but, these days (at most airlines), you basically have to sacrifice your whole life to accommodate a typical roster. You’ll likely spend a lot of time tired / “overworked” and the money isn’t what it used to be of course.
      5) If your biggest dream is truly to become a pilot, then I would say that you *almost* don’t have a choice haha. After all, you only live once. . . It’s somewhat cliche but, you don’t want to get to the end of your life wondering “what if” (equally, if you spend your life savings on it and it doesn’t work out, that could be just as much of a regret. . .). Flying is still an incredibly competitive industry to get into but, if you truly have your heart set on it and if you do have some sort of natural aptitude for flying, you’ll probably get to where you want to be, one way or another.
      6) Have you looked at airline sponsorships etc?
      My short-term advice would be (if you haven’t done so already); do a couple of practice lessons and get some feedback from the instructor, see what he thinks about your flying skills etc. Also, apply to a couple of integrated flight schools (L3Harris, CAE Oxford etc), even if you have no intention of going there; they have their own selection process and that will give you some idea of what is expected in terms of academic qualifications, aptitude testing, interview technique, teamwork, etc.
      I hope that helps a little? Again, I think that PPRUNE is a great place to start but, if you have any further questions, feel free to get in touch again : )
      Cheers, all the best!

      Thanks very much, Panslow! I love(d) making them but, sadly, the Mach Loop series videos were never all that popular. In of itself, that wouldn’t bother me but, RUclips’s (awful) algorithms work such that every time a video does poorly, it negatively impacts the promotion of the channel / it’s content. As a result, every time I put out a Mach Loop video, I was somewhat shooting myself in the foot haha. I think the best compromise, is to do what I did here and run the loop when reviewing addons that might logically make such a flight. That way the video still gets the viewership and I still get to do something that I very much enjoy. Never say never though, I might still bring the series back one day. . .
      Cheers and all the best! : )

Personally, I would always recommend purchasing military addons outside of the sim (where possible); any addon purchased through the in-sim Marketplace, will have had its weapons removed. Just Flight is usually my preferred vendor, as they have a pretty great rewards scheme also. The pilot avatars are included with the product however, I added in the radio comms myself (during editing), for increased immersion.
      I hope that helps! All the best : )

    I have flown a few hours in the Just Flight Vulcan now. One thing that is really tricky for me is the lack of a heading indicator apart from the E6B compass. Trying to twiddle the compass card knob whilst setting up an ILS approach is difficult. How do you handle this? I used to fly the DH Devon (about same vintage as the Vulcan) in the 1970s and that had a G4B compass so you always knew which way you were pointing. Not so in the Vulcan. I also struggle with the autopilot. Powered on, Trim aircraft as best as possible for straight and level. Switch to Alt and ENGAGE. But soon its either diving or climbing. Anyone else find this or is it me?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад

      Hello Peter,
      The beam compass does show heading, but the compass card is fixed and instead the heading reference pointer moves; so, the information is there, it just takes a little bit more mental gymnastics to extract it (at least for me anyway haha). Typically, I set up the TACAN / VOR, use the TACAN indicator as an RMI and then line myself up on the ILS that way. The beam compass will then show deviation from the LOC and you can adjust your heading accordingly.
      It’s interesting that you mention about the autopilot not being able to hold ALT. I didn’t have any such issues myself but, a couple of other viewers have made similar comments. I don’t know whether it’s a hardware conflict issue, or perhaps Just Flight broke something with the recent update. . . It sounds like you have the sequence correct; the autopilot needs to be powered (with pitch, roll and yaw channels selected in) and you then need to switch the pitch mode to ALT and pull to engage (I believe the AP will try and hold the altitude at which you went into ALT, not when you pulled so, make sure to only do this once at your desired altitude - which it sounds like you are). One other thing, have you tried engaging the AP first and then selecting ALT (off the top of my head, I can’t remember which sequence I did it in)?
      I hope that helps a little? Let me know if I’ve completely missed the mark haha.
      Cheers and all the best!
      P.s. If you don’t mind me asking, were you flying the Devon with the RAF then, or someone else? (That’s another Just Flight addon that I would really like to see brought over to MSFS : )

    • @PeterCov12inNZ
      @PeterCov12inNZ 9 месяцев назад

      Hi. I eventually got my head around the beam compass and use it as you have written above. The AP altitude hold was just me not realising that as well as turning the knob to ALT you had to pull it up as well. I was hoping that there would be a HOTAS key bind that would enable me to to rotate the card similar to the way we move the HDG bug but Just Flight didn't seem to think it was possible. My Devon flying was with the Royal New Zealand Air Force around 1975. I managed 40 hours flying the Devon after 140 hours on the Harvard. Unfortunately my IF was not up to the required standard so that was that. I continued in the RNZAF as an aircraft engineer. I retired two years ago after returning to the RNZAF as a civilian technical support engineer involved with maintenance of the Kaman Super Seasprite.@@IntotheBlueSimulations

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад +1

      Cheers, Michael. I know why the aircraft had a Mach meter; the Vulcan was originally designed as a high altitude bomber and up at altitude, Mach number typically becomes more limiting. I’m pretty sure at altitude, Vulcan crews would have flown a specific Mach number, as opposed to an IAS (it’s generally the same on a commercial airliner). Why the Vulcan’s Mach meter goes to 1.3 I have no idea haha. Perhaps the aircraft was capable of Mach 1 in a dive, or perhaps (knowing the UK haha), the gauge was just the part they had available at the time.
      All the best! : )
      P.S, having just done a little more reading, it seems that the latter was in fact true. The Mach meter was a “stock” gauge, not specifically designed for the Vulcan. Apparently though, a crew did manage to get the Vulcan through the sound barrier (M1.03) on a test flight haha!

      I love(d) making the Mach Loop series vids but sadly, RUclips’s (awful) algorithms works such that every time a video does poorly, it negatively impacts the promotion of the channel / it’s content. As a result, every time I put out a Mach Loop video, I was somewhat shooting myself in the foot haha (very annoying). I think the best compromise, is to do what I did here and run the loop when reviewing addons that might logically make such a flight. That way the video still gets the viewership and I still get to do something that I very much enjoy. Never say never though, I might still bring the series back one day. . . ; )

    Another great video and as always, extremely accomplished and precise flying. I also like the way you take the trouble to learn the aircraft properly before you make your videos, unlike some content creators. Just a quick question about the reduced control authority at high speed: does the Vulcan actually reduce the travel of the control surfaces at high speed in order to protect them from aerodynamic damage, or is the reduced authority simply a natural consequence of the higher speed?

    • @delta558
      @delta558 10 месяцев назад +1

      The pitch 'feel' is artificially reduced by the square of the speed. In roll, the stick force is constant but the amount of deflection available is decreased gradually from 150kts. It was built into the sim using the graphs from the Vulcan Servicing Manual.

      I try to do my homework ahead of a review haha; partly, because it’s not really fair to review the product without some knowledge of how it’s supposed to work and also because, learning new aircraft is probably the thing that I most enjoy about simming (so the “study” is rarely a chore). People seem to appreciate me taking the time to learn an addon and I wouldn’t wish to go about things any other way,
      Hopefully, Delta558’s post answers your question? He’s a member of the Just Flight team and the man responsible for the flight model so, he undoubtedly knows far more than I could ever tell you haha!

      For the CG gauge, you’ll notice there’s a little button next to it; according to Just Flight, the gauge is only supposed to read correctly with the button depressed (very odd but, it is a British design so, I’m not too surprised haha). I think the gauge was primarily used for A2A refuelling (I spent a long time with the P3D Vulcan, trying to figure out why my CG was always off ha).
      I hope that helps, Andy. Cheers!

      I love(d) making the Mach Loop vids and Top Gear was very much my inspiration actually haha. Sadly though, RUclips just punishes you every time you put out a video that doesn’t do all that well (and the Mach Loop series never did). I think the best compromise, is to do what I did here and run the loop when reviewing addons. That way, the video still gets the viewership and I still get to do something that I very much enjoy. Never say never though, I might still bring the series back one day. . . ; )
      I am most certainly due another outing in Concorde! I did start prepping a flight in the DC Designs Concorde the other day but, that thing is pretty broken at the moment. . . Perhaps, I’ll take a look at the Colimata Concorde, this time in X-Plane 12 (some time in 2024 haha).

    I use to fly from Teesside airport in light aircraft back in the early eighties and there used to be to be an annual air show. Being a member of Cleveland flying school we use to get free admission. The Vulcan made a couple of appearances both landing and taking off and I managed to get a great picture of it during its takeoff roll just as it lifted off.
    I live in Sunderland and we had a yearly air show for around 10-15 years before covid struck and it was cancelled. The Vulcan made appearances and what a magnificent sight to see flying slow at low level We have an aircraft museum here and have a Vulcan in it. The aircraft actually landed just outside the museum as we had an airport then called Usworth airport which now as been long gone, the site now being the home to the Nissan car manufacturer. Sadly in 1971 a Vulcan crashed just south of Sunderland at a little village called Wingate. The crew had baled out and the pilotless plane hit the ground in a field just behind the local co-op store, luckily no one was injured.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Andy,
      Well, I thought it was a nice compromise haha. I’ve got others telling me that they don’t want the coal hole and that it’s inappropriate for me to suggest it being added, at the risk of increasing the price of the addon. It’s certainly a part of the aircraft that I would love to see but, realistically, more work does mean more costs, that Just Flight are going to pass onto the customer. The Vulcan is very reasonably priced so, I don’t think it would be totally unfair to charge another £10 for the rear cockpit (even then, the addon would be cheaper than it’s P3D / XP counterparts) and let the customer decide whether they want it or not.
      At the end of the day, it was only a suggestion and one which was probably pretty academic, given that I don’t believe Just Flight have plans to do anything of the sort haha.
      Cheers, all the best : )

  • @trgitw
    @trgitw 10 месяцев назад +1

    Don't think your point about a rear cockpit being modelled is valid at all. Its a flight sim, you don't even need the rear cockpit, msfs doesn't even support all the original operations in the rear cockpit, you get the necessary panels for FLYING. I get so you can have a look around but honestly get real, what do you expect for the price it is. It's a slight trade off they made to keep the price lower and most people no doubt would rather have it that way. We're not all highly paid airline pilots.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Iceman,
      Well, that’s fair enough; we all have our own opinions of course but, literally the next comment after yours, was someone saying that the product is “incomplete” without the rear section modelled haha (which I don’t particularly agree with either). Just goes to show, that we all have different ideas / expectations.
      I fully understand why the rear cockpit section wasn’t included and I’m more than happy if Just Flight want to keep costs down / make the product more affordable (which I gather, is exactly why this decision was made). My job doesn’t come into it; I want as many people to be able to enjoy the Vulcan / sim / hobby as possible. That’s why I simply *suggested* that it might make for a nice little *optional* paid update (I really don’t see the harm?). Whether or not the rear cockpit was just added for show, I know there are many others that would like to see it as well. . .
      Either way, I think this whole discussion is pretty academic; I don’t think Just Flight has plans to do anything of the sort haha.
      All the best

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад

      Hi HH,
      I did think that also but, I’m not sure that FPS would be an issue in this particular case; each section could still be separated from one another (via the curtain) and therefore only rendered when the user is viewing that particular cockpit section (I could be wrong on that one though).
      All the best!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  9 месяцев назад +1

      Haha well, that’s what’s being discussed, Graham: The Vulcan doesn’t come with the coal hole modelled / included. I suggested that it might be something that’s nice to have but, not everybody agrees with me (and fair enough).
