Great visual perspectives. I liked the camera angles from the Corsair's left wing the best. Video gave the feeling of actual formation flying for us land-lubbers. Thanks.
To me, this P-38 will always be Lefty's Lightning. I've seen it many times at airshows on the West Coast in decades past. I've read the detailed account of the engine fire with Ladd Gardner at the controls, who managed to bring it down to the ground safely; damaged but intact. And I closely followed Ezell Aviation's meticulous restoration. I'm so glad Red Bull acquired the aircraft, and funded its resurrection. I'll miss seeing it in person... but I'm glad for its new life.
I can't say because I wasn't at the controls, but you can see the P-38s acceleration here! The Sair has the higher top speed depending on engine and weight (and being my favorite), but the 38's acceleration is legendary. I have a feeling there is a reason it was lead. And all designed before the late war super planes looking great in polished aluminum. Wouldn't be until the jet age that dual engine fighters reined so supreme.
The P-38's list of firsts is legendary and needs no repeating. Only mention Bong and McGuire and that says it all. Top speeds are close, Corsair at 447 and the P-38L at 443, but the ROC was faster and the ceiling higher in the 38
It does a beautiful job of showing the majesty of flight. Oh by the way to the corsair pilot if that A-14 mask feels wierd and moving around seek me out at airshows on the east coast. I'm with the Airmens Preservation Society and I recreate all the original straps and grommets. The D rings look pretty shabby and homemade.
The guy in the corsair I just love the leather helmet with the oxygen mask look . Not to mention the corsair itself . Sexy piece of machine it is . P38 is nice just something about the look of it I don't like but it's still a nice piece of machine
I guess it's a necessary evil and I'm just glad that these planes get restored, but I wish the companies that do so would have enough respect for the history of them to not plaster their logos all over them.
Ashitaka1110 100% agreed . These birds are a piece of our freedom , countless men died in them so we could be hear today you'd think they would have enough respect but at the same time I kinda understand why they put the logo on there but aye a corsair still sexy asf with the RedShit Stamp on it

Agreed, maybe they could make it smaller? At least RB has cool looking logo.
