Would recommend watching the rest of the trailers for Total War Warhammer 2 and 3. The only thing this and 40k have in common is the deamons. Early on in the IP's history they were the universes were connected but as things went on they separated them more and more.

The reason why the humans are just wearing chest-plate is due to their number of soldiers being way higher then the equipment they have and can produce.
They can't waste precious resources on soldiers that are very likely to die in their first battle.
Instead the best equipment goes to elite regiments who have tried and proven themselves.
Still better then being a Bretonnian peasant, they get send out with nothing, and have to arm themselves with whatever they have at home (likely a old rusty pitchfork or broken shovel).
They are just there to be meat shields for the well equipped royal knights

    • @magni5648

More to the point, the Empire is essentially in the early Renaissance era in terms of technology. Mass-produced "munitions" plate armor means they can outfit a lot of people with relatively cheap armor that still offers some notable protection, while the high-end elite units and nobles can afford better stuff.

    • @sulphuric_glue4468
      @sulphuric_glue4468 2 месяца назад +1

@@magni5648 And in the real renaissance to early modern period, only pretty wealthy rulers (or mercenary captains) could afford to equip most or all of their army with munitions armour. So if anything, the Empire's soldiers are better protected than the average real world soldier of the same time period.

9:45 The Dawrves have a sacred book they call the Damaz Kron or the great book of grudges, its essentially a list of every major slight against their people, most clans have their own lesser book that accounts for wrongs done to them and they remember that grudge for all time until it is settled wither in blood or gold. The dwarfs are a sad people, brought low by their own stubborn pride and greed they are a dying race who made some of the most amazing inventions in the warhammer fantasy world, helicopter bombers, trains, flamethrowers.

Warhammer Fantasy and 40k are effectively seperate universes with a few connecting elements. The closest they ever were was way back in early editions, and there is was that essentially the Warhammer Fantasy World was some forgottne planet somewhere in the 40k galaxy and/or the 40k galaxy was inside a crystal ball on a shelf in some wizards' tower, Men in Black-style.
The red-haired guy in the Norsca trailers is called Wulfrik the Wanderer. He was "just" a pretty badass norscan raider champion until one night he got really drunk and then boasted that he could 1v1 *anyone* in the world. The Chaos Gods listened to that and basically went "Know what? You'll get to prove that, sonny!" and dropped a combined curse and blessing on him. He's cursed to wander the world in search for anyones champions and leaders to duel them to the death, never staying in one place for more than a day or two. He's also blessed with the ability to instinctually know the exact words to say to any given person (even in languages he doesn't know or shouldn't be able to speak at all) to get them to want to personally murder him on the spot, specifically so he cna get those 1v1 duels.

Warhammer fantasy came before warhammer 40k, and they are mostly separate except for the overall vibe. 40k started as "warhammer, but in space", however over the years they have separated quite a bit, though they do still have some similarities like elves, orks, undead egyptians and daemons. The daemons are actually pretty much identical in both settings since they are kinda timeless entities. There are even a few named daemon characters that exist in both, like Skarbrand and Be'lakor

Dwarves have a waning empire. Because they can't muster the strength to answer every slight against them, they have a great book of grudges so when they have time, they can address the issue. But the problem is because of their situation that book remains full of unanswered crimes against their people.

40k is the year 40,000. That's the space version of the universe. Warhammer fantasy (this) is a long time ago in a land far far away. Talk to universes have very similar factions what the story is very similar and very different based on the setting. The fantasy Universe came first. That's why the 40K version has such a strong fantasy element to it but it is a science-based fantasy.

The space marine version, called 40k, is actually a sci-fi adaption of this fantasy version.
Games Workshop, the owners and creators of Warhammer, originally made the fantasy version. However, they made the sci-fi adaption easier and cheaper to get into. Making it far more popular and they stopped supporting the fantasy version. Which is why the sci-fi version is more well known and the original fantasy version is forgotton about.
Originally the sci-fi version was a lot like the fantasy version as it had a lot of the same races. But they eventually removed a some of them and created some unique ones.

If you have all 3 games you can play on a map of the entire world with all the factions and characters at once.
1 is set in the old world (their version of europe)
2 in the new world (africa and the americas)
    3 in the east (asia)
In the combined map some factions are more spread out or in different locations and the map is somewhat different to fit the different maps togheter and make it work.
It's a lot of fun to have so many options for expansions and fight against enemies you couldn't in the base game outside of multiplayer battles.
My favourite faction are the skaven from 2 they are backstabbing ratman with crazy technology like miniguns (called ratling guns 😂), sniper rifles, poison gas and lightning cannons but also some of the most grotesque monsters (google hellpit abomination) that are the stuff of nightmares. Most factions will hate you but who cares when ratling gun goes BRRRRRRRR. 😂

11:07 I believe that was a dragon ogre. I don't know a whole lot other than that they're an old race that made a pact with Chaos to save their species from extinction and grow larger the longer they live, I think. Kholek, the dragon ogre seen here, I think is actually MUCH bigger in the books. like I remember someone saying he's actually supposed to be big enough to look over a city wall. I should also mention the Empire does have allies. they're friends with the dwarves and the humans learned magic from the elves. and judge the soldiers in the Vampire Counts trailer for wearing chest armor but it's clearly been enough to keep the Empire's many, many, MANY enemies at bay. I also doubt that's the only armor they were wearing. I know the material underneath doesn't look like much but it does help also. I just can't tell which specific design they're wearing under the metal. I swear. the witch hunter didn't really miss as much as one of the vampire's skeleton minions walked into the line of fire. 25:30 last edit, I swear. the Empire survives through perseverance, guns, gunpowder, steam tanks, magic, etc. even though the trailers make it seem like the Empire is constantly fighting, it's not really. there are times for peace and most of the time, the threats they face are kept in check. the Warriors of Chaos mostly stay in Norsca until they decide to sail south to invade, the beastmen keep to a few forests, the vampire counts mostly stay in Sylvania, the orks are busy slaughtering each other as much as they fight everyone else and only become a genuine threat when united by a leader like Grimgor Ironhide, etc.

So it gets kinda confusing, but basically there are 3 universes under the Warhammer title. There is "Warhammer 40k", which has Space Marines and the Emperor of Mankind and all that. That is set in the future year of 40,000 AD and the Imperium of Mankind spans across the entire Milky Way galaxy. Then there is "Warhammer Fantasy" which has ended, although it is technically still continuing thanks to the "Total War: Warhammer" games made by Creative Assembly. However according to the books and official lore, the world of "Warhammer Fantasy" was completely destroyed by an event called The End Times. "Warhammer Fantasy" took place on 1 planet with various factions and races fighting over it. The main similarities it had with "Warhammer 40k" were just a few things like the Chaos Gods, demons and the Warp, but otherwise it was pretty much unique.
"Warhammer: Age of Sigmar" is now the new medieval-magic-fantasy version of Warhammer. It has a lot more in parallels with "Warhammer 40k." For example, the Stormcast Eternals are their medieval-magical version of Space Marines. There is no Franz Karl. He died in the End Times in "Warhammer Fantasy". Sigmar is the God-King of Man and he's the equivalent to The Emperor of Mankind in "Warhammer 40k".
I hope that wasn't too confusing, but Total War: Warhammer has some amazing trailers and the game is pretty fun, although there has been some controversy recently with over-priced DLCs and balancing issues with different factions.

So as some have said warhammer fantasy is a seperately universe from 40k.
But for Warhammer Fantasy, basically give the earth a failed botox, then inflate it from our "baseball" earth to like "soccerball" size.
The Empire is based roughly around the time period of the 30 years war in europe.
Bretonnia is King Arthur but French. and so they have a lot of "mundane" magic and even a few monty python jokes mixed in.
The Orcs are just like what you saw.
The Vampires have a complicated backstory, but they are all the worst (for us) Vampire tropes with necromancy thrown in and they think they should rule over the Empire, but their connection to humanity is so far gone it would be terrible.
The Norscans are Vikings mixed with the Wariors and Chaos and various monsters of the north.
Warriors of Chaos are the typical fantasy knights/fighter types from your usual DnD esque storys back in the day, but perverted by demon worship into monsters worse than anything they evwr fought.
The Beastmen are half-man half-animal monsters made by the demons for the purpose of basically killing everyone and harvesting their souls and so the demons can have playthings.
And the Dwarves are very stereotypical but they also have beyond photographic memories and so anything that pisses them off or shames them, that anger or that shame will never fade away, instead they have to do something that offsets it, usually by taking revenge.
And the Wood Elves are self exiled elves who live in a magic forest which the forest itself still hasn't decided if its cool with sapient creatures like man and elves or if it should try commiting genocide.
