After long and highly distinguished careers with other collaborators, Richard Rodgers (Composer, 1902-1979) and Oscar Hammerstein II (Librettist/Lyricist, 1895-1960) joined forces in 1943 to create the most successful partnership in American musical theater. Prior to joining forces, Rodgers collaborated with lyricist Lorenz Hart on musical comedies that epitomized wit and sophistication (Pal Joey, On Your Toes, Babes In Arms and more), while Hammerstein brought new life to operetta and created the classic Show Boat with Jerome Kern. Oklahoma!, the first Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, introduced an integrated form that became known as “the musical play.” Their shows that followed included Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. This cast is a dream! So lovely.
Wow wow wow wow WOW! amazing. Incredible cast, incredible voices, what a smash! I actually have goosebumps.
The choreography in this show is also sublime! It tells the story so well.

I saw Jessie in waitress, interesting to hear her use a really different singing technique
She has like a dozen different voices and techniques! She really is amazing.
You should see the clips of her playing Carrie in 2013.
Jessie Muller has a lyric tecnique so she cant sing in different ways depending of the song she is singing.
I got to see this show in previews and it was AMAZING!

I prefer the 2013 Lincoln Center revival cast with Jessie Muller as Carrie and Kelli O Hara as Julie
Good singing does not mean forget the context on which the play was written. Common error in broadway singers. These characters from Carousel are regular farm and country people. Singing with uncontrolled emotions distract the singing techniques and ability to interpreting well the scenes. The girls sing with so much vibrato that does not even sound natural. Now that’s not an accurate representation of the character. Their vibrato is proper for a Halloween ghost not for a little girl in the play. Despite of the well and pleasant tune of their voices. Vibrato is commonly over used in Broadway and never represent good singing habits!!
Thank God we have you to critique Tony winners.
This show was created decades ago and many of the singers that took on these roles were operatically trained... this is the style.
