I don't know if you will read this comment because it's late, but I just want to say THANK YOU for all your videos, I work at a repair shop and your videos truly help and your inspirational videos help as well, thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with all of us. I had an alienware EDP LED connector repair and your video repairing the same connector helped me so much.
At first I was a little weirded out by music, then I started having flashbacks of playing Sega Gensis as a kid. It would fit perfect in a 16 bit platformer. Thinking Earthworm Jim, or maby Streets of Rage. Your daughter did a great job, encourage her to continue with her creativity.

I had a similar job last week I bridged the pads with solder paste and used the iron on 1 pad and the heat transferred right through and bridged nicely. I dont use solder paste for anything else it's quite messy stuff but I've found a use for it now
I thought I'd found a magic item.for repairing pads it was just solder paste mislabeled 🤦♂️
Discovered your videos just recently. RUclips algorithm. I am in repair industry all my life, basic computer repair, copier repair, automotive repair(scooters to tractor trailers), appliance repair (steam cleaner, vacuum, stove, range, oven, fridge, washer, dryer, Residencial light repair. I have always been fascinated with the the thing out of my reach. Repair at board level. Thanks for your help.

I think it disables the ethical systems of the kitchen robot so it can now protect the house from intruders and cook them on the spot

I'm sure he doesn't know because the customer didn't tell him. He is just a repair shop and he did the job the customer asked of him to do.
Perhaps factory recommendation to solve some problem. Good luck without ESD protection.

100% agree. Can't live without it. It's a daily use for me. Quick tip. You do not need to press the button to activate, just touch it by keeping your finger over it. The pen will go to sleep if finger is not touching the button to elongate the life of the tip. Enjoy and thanks for ordering.

From what i can tell, they are filters and already are bridged within the component itself but as to why replace them with direct paths, no clue.

They are a current limiting circuit I believe. Increase power to the servos steppers.
He called them ESD protection, or Electro Static Discharge.
They may have been causing nuisance trips and interfering with operation.
Sometimes stepper motors are noisy, especially when driven hard or fast.
This is probably a mod to improve performance and reliability, and is cheaper than buying a replacement motherboard where these parts have been eliminated

Yes, very odd. If you want something that's bound to generate noise to fail then first remove the ESD components (which look to be on the HDMI ports, for cameras or monitors perhaps).
If you noticed they were protecting optocouplers. I am guessing that the reason for removal was to give a stiffer signal to the optos.

I understood the customer wanted those parts removed but WHY? Why was the change needed and what effect does it have?
If i understand things correctly. looks like they are resistors for filtering the signal to the stepper motors - could be a point of failure, but removing them increases the signal strength, the customer may need to use after market motors for some reason or what faster/more control. though It might have been easier to replace with 0ohm resistors it is not what the customer asked for.,

I know you don't take suggestions, but.
Having a little more context for repairs would be great for the viewers.
Maybe a before an after speed if that is what it does??
Only reason I can think of for removing is that these ESD protection devices are a known point of failure. If the device fails in an open circuit, it could interrupt the communication on these ports. It could also fail with internal shorts which would disrupt the signal path yet again. Can't imagine another reason for doing this.
A possibility, looks to be a clone of a TI chip. I would have fitted the TI part, but then I would have disobeyed the customer's instructions.

Anyone can guess why the customer wants to remove the components ? Are they related to flashing custom firmware or something similar ?
The only thing I can think of is possibly removing them so they can glitch the processor and dump it's flash and what not, I know that it's common for people to remove filter caps and protection circuits to attempt glitching.
It makes zero sense unless these components were faulty. They are TVS Diodes and they protect the circuit from voltage spikes from i.e. static discharge. TVS Diodes are basically wires with a diode to the ground. In my opinion Alex should first check if they are okay (conducting). But I have no idea whey they didn't just replace them if they were faulty :/
This component is diode array and it's supposed to protect against ESD. It works the way that if something goes wrong on the data line it simply shorts this line to GND. The way it's been repaired it's not best solution as if any overvoltage or static discharge and the MCU is gone.@@MattBeaver

hello boss , I see your youtube and learn a lot , in order to do this project you need to reduce the temperature of your soldering station so that you can make the solder much sticky and you can do it without wiring ,trust me I've done it already and its not time consuming ,
