Really enjoyed see this Tom. Once the new parlour is done, you’ll have more time to spend with the calves. When you’re building the parlour, you should put in a few coffee cup holders
Even your baby calf’s love you. You hold the milk and they are healthy because of the excellence care. Your bull did an awesome job, happy bull, happy cows and happy Tom and Ginger guy.
I love the fact you’re a real farmer, not like some of these pretenders out there. I’d watch some other “farm” shows and would think, my grandfather and father would have laughed at their assertion of being a farmer or livestock tender. I love your videos and your farm reminds me of the one I grew up on. I can’t wait for your videos to come out! Thank you for your explanations as well. I’ve forgotten so much since I’ve been off the farm for years now.
Great insight into your calf routine, I have fed and raised calves myself but your standard of care is well up there and Gold standard those calves are getting a great start. British farming at its best/support local.
o no tom i only watch you i haven't a clue about farming but love watching you i no a lot moor than i did but your grate with all the animals and got me loving the cows just wont to love them so thank you tom
When my dad was alive he was not keen to take too much of the labour out of rearing young stock. He reckoned working with them closely meant you were less likely to miss something like a sick calf. Seems you have a fairly similar philosophy. Well done.
Have you ever considered a milk taxi? It makes it much easier to feed all the calves at once and it can be warmed up to make it the perfect temperatur for the calf which is around 40-43 celsius. And many more benefits.
Happy prosperous and most of all a healthy New Year! to you, your family, friends and viewers Greetings from across the pond. NE rural Ohio, USA Always enjoy your videos
So much hard work before you've even had breakfast and you still manage a smile😀Well done Tom. Thank you for the time you put into your videos and for sharing. 👍
Hey Tom I know you're a super busy chap, but I'd love to see just little snaps of the animals on the brush and loving it. The cheeky cow with the blue roll. Little quirks that the animals have. Thank you for doing these videos. My love and best wishes to your family from mine. Happy New Year... X
One thing you might do is with the bottle calves have pens in the viewing area for them. Have a sign with times they are bottle fed when you have some. A chalk or white board with the date of birth, sex, kind they are (short horn) etc. Then have visitors feed them if they are there at the time. Just a thought!!
I like the winter jackets on the calves. Looks like you could do with more light early in the morning, perhaps one on your head? I love the milk froth on tap. I have been watching SaskDutchKid and his sister on Dairy on the Prairie. It is interesting to see the comparisons.
I thanks for the videos, as a townie with an industrial background I really appreciate seeing what goes on to put food in the shops. There is a lot of manual work and repetition. I think a good " time & motion" person could help you a lot I think they are called production engineers now,
i really enjoyed it. very helpful. i do occasional work on a small suckler farm which used to be a dairy farm which they still milked in a shippon. i am wanting to get more into farming as my dad is a farmer himself.
I love baby calves...(yes I know calves are babies already...is just cuter ) ...you all work so hard to keep al lyour herd happy and healthy love to all the family...from Perth😁
I wish I could wake up as chipper as you seem to, coffee's never given me a perk up. Lol Love calves & how pampered they are compared to the dairy's in the US that I've ever seen. Good job. 😊🥰🙏
Got home about an hour ago spotted this .. got my chores out the way n cooked food, time to chill n watch n epic episode w Tom Edit perfect way to unwind after work some lovely well tened to calves
Great work Tom love the content I’m a calf rearer myself and the best thing to see is happy clean calfs it brings a buzz to the job we have them in pens of 5-7 when they are 3 weeks we rear young stock only and we recently put up some space hopper balls hanging from rope and they love them kicking them about
I Love how you are there for the birth of each calf, well almost everyone. Will you make more calves pens and where will you put them? Thank you for sharing your life with RUclips!!!
You hit the nail on the head, labour intensesive. New shed must aid with the amount of time? Lots of mini water points as per main shed, etc, but all comes as a cost against time calculation 🤯
So much love and care and I just love the way you talk to the babies, what better way to start the new year than the new lives on the farm ❤️ I'm so excited for the 16th when the new plans should begin to happen, well I guess it will be after the 16th for the video but I'm so excited to follow your new endeavour x
I went to a talk by Ben from farm post mortems and he said naval ill is one of the biggest killers of calves he sees. He also said dip not spray! Reason, umbilical is like a hose pipe and infection travels up the inside, spraying never gets 100% coverage and only ever the outside so infection can still travel up the naval until it’s dried and closed. I use a none return teat dip cup, works well and doesn’t use a massive amount more iodine that spraying
Can't wait to see you upgrade the calf pen definitely needs doing after watching a couple of American dairymen and how they do there using the those shelters they use. What you could do for now use some calf huts protable, easy to clean. Great video. And should think of a milk cart i know only 40 ltres or so but might easier for ginger guy if he does that job plus for future calving.
Hello Tom, No matter how the weather is it all has to be done, ten out of ten to you your staff and all farmers, I thank you all for what you do, I watched one of your very first videos at the weekend it was a short one we’re you was explaining about the coat, jacket, that the calf’s have on , then watched the video we’re you ,Hiedi, and your Dad we’re lying down the Astro turf, ( Question ) how is the turf, is it braking up, or is it ok ?, 👍👍👍
I've noticed you use a lot of hot water in the parker, have you considered solar water panels? Even in the depths of Winter we get a tank full of 40C water and the rest of the year we can't use it fast enough. Combine that with a ground source heat pump and you'd be laughing all year round.
Monster effort Tom! Sand don't forget people, it's everyday he's at this! Tom, I believe adult cows drink luke warm water as they like that best, isn't the water gradually getting cold bad for the calves?
@@TomPembertonFarmLife tbh they are clearly growing up well and get the luxury in the shed later so it can't be that bad mate Hurry up and get that viewing area sorted, I want to bring my family to come visit :)
I would love to see how the carves go through all the stages to be a cow and why do you use the separate sections in the bucket when feeding a batch pen
I feed in a similar way, I was encouraged to stop tipping the water on the floor, instead I carry one of them big blue buckets and just tip it in that I can't say whether it's made any difference but the reduced moisture may help improve some health 🤷
Great video Tom it’s nice to see what you do with the calf’s but i think you need some new led strip lights in your calf shed to help you in the mornings 👏👏👍👍
Ann other awesome video Tom, my fave are the bigger calf’s out that are on cake as the more boisterous, but swing the minuets old calf come round to. Bottle off you was awesome , one questions. On average what temp is the milk that come straight off the cows ?
How do you muck out the calf pens? .. manually into the aisle and then with tractor? And what about pressure cleaning and desinfecting? We have a small dairy farm your size and would love to come and visit if ever in uk
Great channel, been watching for a couple years. Can you explain "cake: ? Have seen it on other channels but no one has ever explained it. Thaks. Happy New Year!!
What age are the calves when you separate them from their mothers? They are so cute! I don't know how you find the hours in the day to do everything that you do. I think the new parlor is a much needed new edition :D
I cannot believe how hard you all have to work every day! Thank you for feeding the world.
Thanks Peggy ☺️

The content that makes me happy.. with all the work done at the farm, I imagine a new bigger calf building is on the wish list?

Hi Tom, Happy New Year. Your plans for a new milk parlour are so exciting - I can't wait to see it take shape! 🐄
Can’t believe how labour intensive calf rearing looks. Great job Tom!

I couldn't help smile whenever you mentioned how cold it was. Does it ever get really cold in England?? Do you ever get -40 weather? 😄

Hi Tom happy new year and sorry for the aggro on last vid with Olly and Joe saying you need a brush
Woah! A lot of work keeping those baby calves happy. 😀
Lovely calf setup - nice happy calf’s. Wondering if your calf shed used to be a cubical shed (cow kennel) for your milk or dry cows
From 🇺🇸 and this was another great video.

What do you do for your calves if the start scouring or not drinking all their milk
I know farmers are hard workers and care very much for their animals but its nice to 👀 see
