As usual first episode so the review is a bit longer than usual, upcoming reviews won't be as long as this. Ep 2 review hopefully later on today.

I'm really loving the show so far. I've enjoyed all of the Star Wars shows, but this is the first one where I finish an episode and immediately go "I want to watch it again. Right now." I love when lots of Jedi are involved and I adore the High Republic, so it's got that going for it, but the characters and storytelling so far are also just super interesting and intriguing. I like how they've already established a lot of nuance for the characters and their dynamics quite effortlessly. Yord and Jecki's dynamic is really fun lol. And yeah, I think they're doing a really good job at having all these mysteries but not at the expense of like never learning about characters until the very end. Hopefully that holds true for this Sith character as well (unless they're planning on multiple seasons or something).
And Vern! I had similar reactions of like, "Yeah, that's totally what Vernestra would be like as an elder" but then going like, "Hold up! Vernestra is willing to cover things up to save face for the Jedi?! Book Vernestra wouldn't do that!" Which just makes things more exciting for both the show and the books of how does Vernestra get to this place or how does the state of the Jedi Order reach this place where she would be willing to do that. Because in her latest appearance in Defy the Storm, she's laying all of her knowledge about her hyperspace visions and her lightwhip before the Jedi Council and is on Elzar about needing to confess about killing Chancey and is not thinking highly of him for keeping it to himself and Avar. And, yes, in the books, I think we're seeing more and more of the Jedi deferring to the Chancellor but not totally beholden to the Senate yet. So maybe that will progress further and further as things with the Nihil worsen. The Jedi have certainly been getting a lot of flack publicly for how they've handled the Nihil so perhaps that contributes to the state of things in The Acolyte.

As someone who went in blind I though Osha either was a good person but was misled to hate the Jedi or she had a multiple personality disorder. I didn't suspect about having a twin at all.

Can’t believe the character/actor I was most excited to see in this show died immediately lol

Thankfully it seems like we will get some likely pretty lengthy flashback sequences where she will be involved.
