Finally someone uploads a video on how to install the bbk on the Q50. Props for that homie. Definitely going to try and finally install mine this weekend. Thanks!
Thank you for watching and glad you found it useful!
Bro search up RUclips it's the same shit for every car . 350/g35/etc
The fluid/oil on the new rotors is a rust preventative coating. Only remove the coating where the pads will contact the rotor, the rest of the coashoild be left alone.
If you have to bang the rotor off with a Malloy/hammer do yourself a favor.....the garage floor and your feet will thank you.......
Place one of the lug nuts....(preferably the top most one. Hand tighten about half way. This allows the rotor to get loose from the hub but not fly off the axle.
BrakE Rotors are heavy especially front ones due to overall diameter width and the cooling vanes sandwiched in between the two layers of rotor material.
Test fit the new rotors first especially if changing to a different size caliper and hardware. With the old caliper out of the way apply the new rotor, caliper bracket, caliper and pads but without disconnecting the brake fluid line. Let’s you know I’d the backing plate needs to be trimmed or replaced.
What was your offset man? I’m gonna do it to my Q60 and my aftermarket wheels have an offset of 35mm. I’m worried I don’t have enough clearance.
What did you do? I have Q60 Luxe 2017 and want to use the BBK but idk if I need a spacer or not.
My wheels are 255/40 19.
You think these will scratch on the luxe q50 with 19s
Hey bro. Did you use the same mounting bolt from the old calipers on the new bbk calipers
Yes it's the same
Yooo! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! Thanks a ton man! Is the process the same for the front in which the BBK mounts directly to the non-sport caliper mounting point?
Correct the front mount up just like the rear and also have to cut the shield.
can you just upgrade the fronts only for now and run them with stock rears? just until can purchase the rears
Yeah I actually ran mine like that for a while no issues
I just had mine done on my Q50S last week. You did not have to cut the rotor guard, just push it a little back n it's all good.. 👍 Thanks for the upload..
Appreciate it!
So you don't have a sport Q? Or one year the bbk was an option on sport I guess? Never heard of anyone not cutting the shield. That is cool. I can't imagine how you can push it back far enough. Wish I could see it done.
Those little circle washer for the banjo bolts 1 for each right?
Quick question, did you have to upgrade your brake booster after converting to the akebonos? I’ve heard that the stock brake booster is too weak.
No I never upgraded it. its been perfectly fine no issues since install
Hey man, great video :D ... a quick question, are those calipers weight noticeably heavier than the original ones? Thanks
Thank you! and they are heavier but not to noticeable. You are going from 2 pistons in the front to 4 so there will be a differeance in weight. I did feel a differance in how much better the q would brake with the akebonos. With the amount of power that the 3.0t can make i think they are worth it also looks alot better.
Nice video.. I have a 2014 q60 base and I would like to upgrade my brakes. Can u tell me what size rotor and what size rim i will need?
I believe the rotor size is 14" as for wheels some 18s can fit but wont clear the bbk. I would suggest 19s that is what i have now from the 370z they are rays. It depends on the offset of the wheel you go with and the design if it will clear. I bought mine used from a friend.
question bro, i’ve got a Q50 premium, i wanna do the upgrade but i’ve got stock wheels and i’m unsure if it’s gonna clear the stock wheels i have.
The 17s won't clear fam you will need 18s and possible a spacer depending on the wheel design. If you go with 370z wheels they should clear
I’m getting akebono brake calipers for the rear they are from the 370z will it fit the Q50?
The rotors on the rear are the only difference everything else is the same just need 4 banjo bolts
Did you need to remove your parking brake to fit the rear akebono calipers or did everything fit up
Nope, mine still functions properly.
Ok because I have a m37x and just switched to the big brake calipers so when my mechanic tried to fit the new rotors and calipers on he said it wouldn't fit and I would need to eliminate the e brake. We just cut the dust shield to fit the rotors so we didnt need to change that
So you would only need rotors for the back the front will work with the oem rotor? And what rotor do you recommend for the back??
The rotors in the front can be from and 370z/g37/q50 sport that already has akebonos. If you have base rotors they will not work as they will be to small. The rear has to be specific for a q50 only. You cannot use rear rotors from a 370z or g37.
Love your intro bro 👌🏾
Thank you appreciate it!
Bro i have an fx same bbk, every 5000 miles i get warped rotors,i heard is a comon problem, any tips? Thank you
Every 5k miles ? Thats crazy are you using oem rotors and breaking them in? Thats the only thing i can think of tbh or bad brakes were the pistons aint working
@@Chrizleyva i tryed a oem and am rotors, both warped,i will do a complete rebuild, but i heard that this type of calliper has some problems,a lot of G's and 370Z ,had same issues,do you happen to know ,if there was a bulletin from the manufacturer, or something? Every info is welcomed.thank you
Do you have to upgrade your wheels will this brake upgrade
If you have 17s yes they won't clear. If you have 18s from base you will need spacers. You can buy wheels that already clear the bbk
Nice video man! I’m just curious to know what specs do you have in the front? I’m running 20x9 +35 offset. I’m wondering if my akebonos will clear. I’d appreciate it if you knew the answer or could share what you have. Thanks again!
I have 370z rear wheels all around. So these are 19x10 +30 all around. The original front ones are 19x9 +47 offset but swapped the fronts for rears. It depends on the wheel design and if the wheel is high disk meaning the part that sits on the rotor is really high. I recommend testing a wheel out first to make sure it fits.
Chrizleyva thanks for the reply! One last question, did you need new brackets for the akebono calipers or do you simply swap them out for the baby brakes? Thanks for the help man!
Naw its a direct bolt on. No brackets needed
What offset can I use in this set up? Can I use a BBS SR 19”x8.5 35+ offset? Or should I use a 15mm spacer with this setup?
Its hard to explain this without showing you but clearing the brake caliper has alot to do with the wheels design and also if its a high or low disk wheel. A high disk wheel will most likly clear the bbk. The offset of the wheel while push the face in or out depending if its negative or positive offset. The 370z wheels design has a positive offset and are like 10.5 wide so i dont need spacers but since yours width is smaller 8.5 you may need a spacer
Did you upgrade your lines ??
No but I have heard it makes a differance if you upgrade
What’s Gd! 1st of I want to say that ur ride is 🔥!..have a ? About ur routers. What size are them? I got the calipers already in red but I need to order the routers. If u could tell me the diameters or size I will greatly appreciate it!..thanks!
For the bbk they are 14 inch the front rotor is interchangeable with other models like 370z, g37 with the bbk. You need to make sure that the rear one is specific to a q50 because those are not interchangeable I would check out the conceptzperformance.com website they have them
Sup man i saw a 370z akebono breaks for sale and they look indentical to the q50 ones and also saw a post that it fits the q50 , would u know ?
Yeah the akebonos fit from all 370z, g37, q50s. The only thing that doesn't fit is the rear rotor you have to get the one specific to a q50
@@Chrizleyva hell yea! Thanks for the quick reply bro 🙏🤙🤙
The front will it need the plate to be cut ?
Yes, the front will also need to be cut.
How much did the calipers end up costing in total
I got them used for like 650 total
Will the Akebono brakes fit on the stock 2018 Q50 Luxe wheels?
No they wont you would need a spacer if they are 18s if they are 17s they wont fit at all
@@Chrizleyva i have 18s. Okay I'll look into spacers. Any idea where I can get spacers from?
@@CleverEagleYT yes conceptzperformance has them. Usually where i get my stuff from.
@@Chrizleyva do they come in a variety of sizes usually?
Did u ever get the spacers and if so what size
Can I put q60 redsport calipers on my q50
Yes but I'm not sure if the rear rotors are different for q60
Excellent job bro! You got lucky. Looked like you had plenty of clearance. What a pain in the ass sometimes. Some wheels won't clear the base small calipers. Have it all figured out now, but sucked. I should have researched better.
Thank you 🙏 and I did this upgrade on my 370z as well so i knew what i was getting into when doing this. The wheels i have on the q50 are from the 370z so i knew it would clear
Clean video for sures
Thank you 🙏
what banjo bolts did you use?
conceptzperformance.com/technafit-banjo-bolt-w-washers-for-akebono-brembo-caliper-775-101sp-universal_p_13378.php
Wow. Lots of info. I have i30 I wonder if I need that special tool to add a BBK part. Wilwood has it but I'm trying to keep it all infinity. Because it looks nice. To me anyways. Ty for the video.
I'm not sure about an I30 I know for 350z they need a bracket to be able to mount these bbk. Thank you 🙌
@@Chrizleyva right on. Yes that what I need. Plus 1400 dollars jesus. They are expensive ...... new. Ty again.
How many banjo bolts will I need to buy?
1 for each caliper
Is it possible to get bigger shield instead of cutting it?
You can but you have to remove more parts in order to get the the shield i was going to just remove it but didn't want to struggle removing everything
Oh okay cool
I was scarred about warranties and stuff.
what size tires you have on the q50 with the 370z wheels
I have 285 35 rear and 275 35 front 19x10 all around
@@Chrizleyva
dang 19×10 all around thats clean... I just got the same wheels but 19×9 in the front and 19×10 in the rear just trying to figure the right size tired for the q50 how you feeling with the tired set up you have on 🙏
*tires
Thank you! And i like it it does rub sometimes in the back on big bumps but if i lower it i think it will camber it a little but and should be flush so i plan to keep it that way but if it still rubs ill go down a size or two
What size spacers needed for the 18 inches luxe wheels?
Not sure since all of my wheels cleared bbk might want to try putting washers to see how much you need to measure
Did u find out what size spacers?
Did you ever find out ? I want to do this
Anyone find out yet?
@@e90m58 I used 25s they cleared the BBK
Can u share the link where u got the upgrade from
I bought these used from a friend you can find them on conceptzperformance.com
How many Shorter Banjo Bolts do I need to purchase 👀
You need a total of 4. One for each caliper
Thank you 🙏
How much bolt for all 4
Is there no screw that holds the rotor?
Nope just make sure the e brake is not on because it will tighten the rotor not allowing it to release
Yeah... the lugs nuts used to secure your wheels are what keep your rotors down in place
I have a base model 2015 Q50 3.7 and my tire size is 225/55r17. Can anyone tell me if I need to move up in tire size to do this mod and also what kind rotors I would need? I am new to modding and don't know what the hell I'm doing.
Yes you will need to go up to an 18 in rim and higher to clear the brakes. Not only that you need to make sure that the wheel hub/inner face also clears the bbk. If they dont clear the inner face yoh will need to use a spacer. My wheels are from a 370z sport which is made to clear the brakes.
@@Chrizleyva what is your wheel offset?
wear gloves and dont get the brake fluid on your skin, clothes or paint its not a nice fluid
Does these fit the qx60
I'm not sure tbh I can't find any info on it either. If the holes to bolt it up match up to the bbk it should fit
Do I need the q50s brake lines or can I use the q50 stock lines ?
I used the q50 stock lines you can upgrade them with steel lines but the stock ones are fine
If You soak brake pads with DOT fluid they are garbage. Use rubber hose with plastic bottle on bleeding screw. Don't spill DOT all over your brakes!
I have the stock intakes from my q50 2019 if someone need it for cheaper
I live out in phx also. U got ig?
Hey whats up! And yea its chrizleyva
I hit u wit the follow thatq50guy_nickaz
8:37 reminds me if her...... I should call her =/
what rotors you use?
I used stock rotors from a 370z sport and rear bought them from autozone for a q50
