- Here's a DIY video on installing the Akebono sports package brakes on a base model 370Z/G37. The calipers are great way to increase braking response using OEM hardware.

I couldn’t find anywhere online to see if the oem bolts (non sport) fit the new akebono bolts for the rears only. Luckily you mentioned it! Saved me time and a headache lol thank you!
Just picked up a set! Can't wait to install it. Powerstop is selling them remanned for like 180$ for the fronts.
Just FYI the stock 18’ wheels do fit the Akebono calibers but just barely. I have them on mine
Nice video. I did the swap a few month ago so I'll add some of my observations:
1. I believe that the metric socket for the front caliper bracket bolts was 22mm
2. I can confirm that the stock 370z 18" wheels from a 2017 will clear the calipers
3. They are completely interchangeable with the g37 brakes. My calipers came off a g37 before I powder coated them, I think you mentioned that.
4. You don't need new brake lines. You only need the shorter banjo bolts. If you order them from z1 get 8, because they snap easily. I kept my lines stock because I'm cheap like that.
Anyway great video. Do you have a wrap or is that just the factory Pearl White? I've never seen it in person
It's a wrap, ViVid space pearl.
I have a sedan and wanting to upgrade . Im getting the parts off a g37s coupe should be no problem right? Rotors and akebonos only as you said we can use the oem lines
You don't need brake lines? You mean you can use the stock once?
The 2019 370Z that I got was the sport trim with the 6MT, larger Rays 19" wheels and the larger Akebono sport breaks, a great upgrade on a car with these performance capabilities. Stainless steel braided brake lines with Teflon cores helped to firm up the pedal a little. Stiffer Hotchkis anti-roll bars on the front and back have given the car a more solid and planted feel with quicker turn in and less body roll. When my pads need to be replaced, I'm going to install the Akebono two-piece rotors with aluminum hats to further reduce unsprung weight. Another mod in progress is the replacement of the OEM Rays forged aluminum 19x9J & 19x10J wheels with a set of forged magnesium wheels from Litespeed Racing, for a further reduction in unsprung weight of about 9 lbs.
The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2(240) tires that I have on the car are about 6 lbs lighter per corner than the OEM Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires, again less unsprung weight and less rotational mass where it really counts, at the outer circumference of the rotating wheel and tire assembly.
If anybody is interested in my old wheels let me know. I like Austin's choice in wheels, design and color.
So funny to see those small brakes on a 370z
Thanks man I’ve been wanting to do this on my 2010 Nissan 370 base model.
First off, I love the channel 👍 I definitely used some videos to aid in my upgrades. Secondly, dude that white with the black rims, carbon hood and wing looks AMAZING! Its just perfect 👍
After cutting the dust sheild I went around it with a dreamel tool with a sanding bit and it removed the sharp edges.
Hello, what is the good price that you were able to get these for?
The old Enkei base 18s from 2009-2012 also clear.
Did you ever weigh the oem caliper to akebono caliper?
So all you need for the upgrade is the line the rotor n the brake caliper ?
Same question here ?
Can you make a video on the many different ways to jack up your z and where you can place your stands. The way you did it in this video was a first for me and im interestrd in learning more as you make it seem so easy. Ive used your videos to make some changes on my z and would love a jack stand and jacking video from you. Keep up the great work!
I want to ask you I saw your first video of you flushing I’m looking at the same brake bleeder set up you have seems easy enough. But I wish you did show us you bleeding them when I look at videos they crack the inside but then close them they crack the outside nut then close or did you crack both of them open. That’s the part I wish you would’ve recorded.
Wish I had watched this before I put my calipers on.... I definitely need to adjust my brake lines...
Supposedly the 18 inch up front need 25mm spacers to clear, that’s what I heard for my 08 g35 sport wheels with the HR engine
bigaudiofanatic from the370z here, great walk through, i'll be using this for my G37! If I buy the new dust shields are the easy to replace the base model ones?
I have these brakes on a 350Z I’m having a hard time finding wheels that fit without spacers. Do you have any recommendations?
avid av6 18x9.5 rims, that is what im currently running on my z as of right now
Did you reuse the banjo bolt for the rear
Was ur E brake working good with the upgrade ?
The e brake has nothing to do with the calipers since the e brake uses a separate drum system on the rear so there would be no reason why it would not work
Did you figure this out ?
3:30 what adapter are you talking about? From what I read I only need the new banjo bolt for converting my G37 base caliper too the Akebono.
It's a hard line that mounts directly to the back of the caliper/knuckle of the car. You can see some of it here:
www.google.com/search?q=370z+akebono+brake+calipers&client=ms-android-verizon&prmd=sinv&sxsrf=ALeKk00b6xVU0uGNFagPo4RRsa3sEVjskg:1590073025025&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwil4srOm8XpAhUIlKwKHZu2DbIQ_AUoAnoECAwQAg&biw=412&bih=722&dpr=2.63#imgrc=t7HZHIBEa2uEgM&imgdii=xEDYqkbMx9ec8M
I'm also amazed at how small those base brakes are for the weight and power of the Z. How did they feel?
Here in Australia it seems most small volume sports cars (compared to what most people buy) don't come in many trim levels. With the Z We either have a base (which has the leather and electric seats, nav, rays wheels, akebonos, vlsd etc) or a nismo or special anniversary editions.
Felt like I was breaking a honda civic.
What upgrades brakes for an Infiniti Q50 rear wheel drive 2015 you recommend??
Came here cause I just realize how... underpower? ... the stock brakes are on my base Z. Got the base to spend the money getting the exact parts I want, but holy crap did not realize I was flying around on such wimpy calipers, haha.
what size are the caliper bracket bolts for the REAR ?
My 2012 Z has red akebonos with an akebono label on them. My girlfriend has a Z with the same calipers but they're gray with Nissan on them. Did they change the design for some reason over the years?
The grey calipers came on the earlier Z models but Nissan eventually switched it to red towards the newer models
How can I be sure that my wheels will fit before buying them. I bought the sport brakes but I haven't bought the wheels yet because I can't figure out fitment. Will any 19inch wheels or more work?
Just about all 19" wheels should work with the akebonos
Any reason as to why my caliper bolts won’t thread in im really lost and confused
Great video, thanks, i have a question, did you feel a brake improvement?
I did, it was subtle at first because the rotors/pads I got used were in bad shape. Switching out for some new pads and rotors made the difference night and day. I feel much more cofortable slamming on them now when doing auto cross/mountain driving as they dissipate the heat better too. Not to mention they look better than the base brakes.
@@thecarizon504 thanks a lot for your answer.
So the stock caliper bracket will hold the akebono?
Same bracket as is on the sport caliper, yes.
where did you get these calipers? i looked on z1 the link u shared, they cost like $1k.. did you have to use the adapter brackets
they do cost a lot if you buy it all at once but its way easier like that, i sourced out parts from different companies. i bought my calipers off auto zone, the caliper bracket from z1, and brake rotors and pads from advanced. i basically spent around the same as if i were to buy it off z1, if i were you, id just save up and buy the whole kit from z1 to save yourself from the headache of sourcing for the parts, that is unless you find some for a good price locally on facebook marketplace or etc.
i have a 350z, and i had to buy the adapter brackets for the calipers because the bolts from the akebonos did not line up with the original calipers
So is it possible to downgrade with just a smaller caliper and rotor?
Sure, you could switch from akebonos to the z base brakes, but why would you want to?
@@thecarizon504 I just bought wheels and they poke about 1.5 inches and I don’t want to get rid of them or widebody
Thanks for the video. Where’s the new fenders?
Sitting in the attic, the fitment was so poor I concluded it is going to take extensive body work before I can get them installed. Instead I have been focused on other projects, and plan to return to them later.
Anyone know if the 350Z 18" wheel option (W02) clear?
I found out they will not clear.
File down those damn dust shields. Leaving sharp metal that will end up biting you, or someone else, in the ass is just sloppy and lazy.
Detriot axle have a pair of front rotors for 75 dollar that fits the big brakes just have 2 cut some of the dust sheild if anybody looking for cheap replacement
Are the old brakes still up for sale ?
They have been sold.
Looks good man! 🔥
Robert are the rotors still for sale by chance?
No I sold those.
I buy 4 akebono fullset original $200😏😎
hell yeah man!

Please don’t take advice especially technical advice from a Ricer With a table top for wing in the back his car And it’s not very good advice going to steal brake lines do some research on that
Ok.
Or better yet, we just won't take advice from you...your comment doesn't even make actual sense.
