woohoo been waiting for this! Full review for sure! also I was expecting to hear comparisons with chrome - if i understood correctly this was supposed to be a hybrid of TSB and chrome
I finally got around to buying this. The original TSB is one of the only high end products I can justify buying on a regular basis. When I apply it just right it could withstand hurricane winds (not really, but I've had my huge voluminous styles hold up in higher winds for sure). Not only that but it applies like butter, and really only gets a bit grippy when I go for that extreme hold after layering in that last scoop. Not to mention, the finish is definitely matte; however, looking at all the oils in the ingredients, and being true to the name, it feels a bit... I don't want to say oily or greasy, which it's not, but there's definitely some hydration to that matte look. For instance, if you hold a light up to a lock of hair and examine it you can see the oil beneath the matte. Not a shine, but It definitely feels like it could be treating your hair during the day, given how nourishing it looks. So I had high hopes for this. I was completely let down. I really hope this isn't final because it's radically different in every way compared to TSB01. Maybe they should call this their clay. I mean, the original TSB has clay in it but it definitely had the feel of a balm and scooped out like one. The first thing I noticed digging into this is it's way more clay like. I never got the comparison between the original TSB and Moroccan Oil Texture Clay but that's almost the perfect comparison with TSB02. The application is almost impossible. Once I worked it into my hands and started applying it, the grippiness set in right away. The second scoop was almost impossible to get into my hair without ripping and tearing. When I looked down at the sink it was like I was shedding. The finish looked bone dry. Again, it's definitely matte, but this was a desert without the oasis of the first TSB. Nice texture though. It did feel light in the hair though. Unfortunately, that translated to a lighter hold. My hair fell down after a short while. Not to mention the breakdown of this stuff, if you warm it up too fast with too much, leaves little clay pieces in your hand that can't be blended in. Those little clay pieces look like dandruff bits in the hair. I should mention my hair is about normal thickness, but I have a ton of it, so it appears like I have thick hair. It's not coarse like Matt's either. It's fairly straight and smooth. The second day styling went better when I applied some argan oil as a prestyler, but it still definitely had too much tack and grippiness. I really hope they don't touch their original TSB. They should work on this a bit more and just call it their clay and leave the original TSB alone. Pics: photos.app.goo.gl/ZBinQmRNMZEi5A6e8 Also, weird that no one else is reviewing this. Couldn't seem to find anyone else talking about this anywhere.
Thanks for all the details Phillip! This is definitely very interesting, since with my hair type, I essentially had the opposite experience. For me, original TSB was too tacky and grippy, while TSB02 applied much more smoothly and easily. Granted though my original TSB was one of those "double scented" or whatever ones in the all black jar, and I've had a few people tell me that that particular formula was stickier than the usual stuff. Curious.
@@TDMStyle Thanks for the reply, Matt. Was wondering though if you used any prestyler in this video. I think I heard you say before that 25 was your go to prestyler, and for me, the argan oil I used definitely smoothed application some. Also, do you plan on doing a full review of this stuff, or are you going to wait until it launches for real? (I believe this was just a special edition, not the final product.) Still, the thing I immediately don't like about the product at all is that the treatment part (well, and balm part too, really, but that's less important) is all but gone. The first TSB, though water based, definitely had the feel of a nourishing oil based product, something that didn't completely dehydrate your hair. This stuff is the exact opposite for me. In the pics I posted, you can see in the close up of my hair that it makes my black hair almost white it's so dry. By the way, if anyone is having similar troubles like I described with this stuff, I would suggest to layer it in in very small amounts until you get the hold you desire. If you use dime sized amounts, for instance, go about half or less. Also, don't really warm this stuff up much. Rub it slowly between your hands just until you notice it's blended, then apply. Warm it up too quickly and the clay bits will actually stick to your hand.
Full review and extra compare 1 vs 2 balm thank you again matt so much, I want morris motley also to have the ability to add thee oak moss scent its to die for that smell ( rob is a wizard ) love morris motley scent
Oh snap haha! You might still be able to get it via a third party retailer like FleekFellows or Slikhaarshop. But otherwise, my fallback is still the Hydration set from Moroccanoil 👌🏻
For a thine hair this better or the first one which one should I pick I am really can't decide is the improvement of the hold is there and worth picking up?
Regular one might be a bit better for thin hair since I find it had more of a thickening effect. So this one worked better for me, because it was a little less thickening and smoother to apply. But if you want more of a volume boost, the first one might be better for you.
I wonder if they tweaked the formula for the original tsb along the way. I just reordered the original tsb before hearing about tsb2, and the first thing I noticed when applying was that the grippy/tuggy/pullyness of my previous jar (that I had just almost all finished the day before) was almost entirely gone. Even after 2 nice size scoops the stuff just glided in. Didn't notice any hold difference, which was a good thing because this stuff always held super well for me. Even when after walking my dog around the block in some medium speed winds it never moves. I should mention my hair isn't coarse like yours, but it's still kinda thick and dense.
They did! They just improve it times to times, it seems to be drier (still more balance than dry or damp), smoother and thicker. I love it! The fact I can get it for just 30$ in my country is too good to be true.
Hey I was just curious, I have really thick hair that is pretty stiff, is there anyway I could make my hair flow better like yours? Or am I stuck with what I got? (I’ve tried many different conditioners however it just goes back to being dry and stiff)
Hey Tye! You can definitely try something like a hair mask 1-2 times per week. Also, a smoothing serum helps a lot. Sleek and 25 spray by TheSalonGuy, and Moroccanoil Smoothing Lotion are some of my favorites.
Any tips for preventing split ends, I already use conditioner and it doesn’t seem to help with that. I’m trying to grow out my hair, especially the fringe but my stylist has to cut off a bunch from the fringe due to split ends.
Could depend on the type of shampoo and conditioner or products you’re using - they might be too drying and the conditioner might not be giving you enough hydration. Aside from that you can try doing a hair mask once or twice per week.
TDM Style hmm any recommendations on conditioners? I know you explained the types in one video but any particular ones you recommend that are on the cheaper side? Any help is greatly appreciated
Tsb02 has a stronger hold than Fuertes. Overall I still prefer the feel of Fuertes as it makes my hair feel super healthy. However I’ve been really enjoying Tsb02 especially compared to the original Tsb.
FleekFellows is just now offering preorder on the LNY collection...can you get some more info on MM's thickening tonic and cleansing resin? Also, your discount code doesn't work for some reason
I think it's just because the LNY style is preorder. Or maybe it's because I've already ordered from FleekFellows. Either way, said it didn't apply to items in my cart.
would love to see your review of o'douds shampoo and conditioner! they also claim that we can just use the shampoo without the conditioner and still get nourished and moisturized hair .how much true is that?
That's a decent way of looking at it. I did certainly find Chrome to be better for me in terms of application/styling than the original TSB. I'd venture to say though that TSB02 is an even smoother application than Chrome. But close, once you start layering.
TDM Style I faced the same problems you faced with TSB01 except the tangly ends. My hair similar to yours, is thick but not coarse or wavy, so it just makes it thicker than I want and also adds unnecessary volume which I absolutely do not want. Whereas I found that chrome was more tamed in the sense that it didn’t add volume or make my hair thicker. I think Chrome is more of a wax/creme whereas TSB01 was more of a clay/creme hence the thickening and volume. Where do you think TS02 lies in comparison? Also, have you thought about reviewing the Dyson blow dryer?
I agree - Chrome is definitely more of a waxy/cream type product and doesn't have the same thickening effect as TSB. Based on my experience thus far, I'd estimate TSB02 to be somewhere in the middle. It definitely still has some thickening effect, but I feel not as much as the first version. And it's more like Chrome in terms of its application to the hair. As far as the Dyson, yeah! I've been meaning to review it for a while and just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Do you plan on reviewing pete & pedro products in the future? Want to see if they are a scam or not before hitting the order button. Also awesome video as always dude.
Thanks man. I don't plan to do P&P stuff tbh. I wouldn't call them a scam, but they have been proven to be white label products. Not that that means they are inherently bad or anything, but the fact that Aaron refuses to acknowledge this and continues to say they're his "secret sauce" annoys me. And that makes me not want to give him any of my money to try them lol
I got it today! After you mentioned oakmoss I took the red paper wrappings for a quick sniff, but sadly it just smells like cupboard... what a disappointment
They're basically different in every way. Chaptr for me was very dry, had much less hold, and didn't really offer the nourishing benefits. Seemed like it worked okay for fine-haired people, but for me it was not great, to be honest. TSB02 for me is much better and more effective.
The only way you're going to make curly hair straight is with heat styling (blow dryer or flat iron) or with a salon treatment like a Brazilian blowout.
