- How to improve French accent? In this video, I give a general blueprint of what you have to do if you want to have very good French pronunciation.
Learning phonetics is important for speaking and understanding. How are you going to speak if you can't pronounce every sound? Or how can you understand if you are not able to tell apart similar sounds of French?
I'm here to help you. My name is Anastasia. I have a degree in linguistics and DALF C1 certificate. And my pronunciation is SO French that natives always think I'm from Paris (never lived there :p)
Write me down below if you want to see more videos about French phonetics. Let me know that you're interested! ;)

You sound so French, speaking English, lol. I am American studying French. I have been struggling and I finally realized that speaking the French way of articulating is the most important thing to learn well before learning the vocabulary, the grammar and especially even before learning to translate.
Why? Light dawns on Marblehead.
I don't want to translate, I want to think in French, and the only way to do that in any new language is to be able to reflect inside of our mind and within our thoughts in the same phonetics of any given language before we ever can begin to speak it properly, or even recognize exactly what we are hearing in order to respond to it.
🥰Thank you so much for this, Nastya.😍
Hi! Loved your video. Please do more videos on french phonetics and also imitation practice.
Merci bien! I'll be glad to!

I have been studying for years but struggle with some basic sounds. Did you ever make a video with all French sounds? I see several other videos but it would be great to have the video that you speak of, one with all sounds. I will definitely work my way (slowly) through all your videos! Thank you so much for making these!
More more more on the phonetics and articles pls, love the way u express and explain everything on ur channel very helpful can't wait for more videos. 👌👌
This video is soooo helpful! Phonetics is definitely my weakest link when it comes to the French language, and your tips are so useful!

I have been spending several months now as a Russian beginner. I studied Greek in 5th grade, so that was an advantage. I also studied some French in that same time period, so I have started to revive my French training here on line. If you would like to improve your accent when speaking English, my first piece of advice is to make certain you do not drop the article "a." Many people whose first language is Russian have a habit of the dropping the "a," and in fact, when I produce a Russian accent, it is one of the things I do to reproduce that accent. An example would be a Russian friend asking me, "Art, do I have Russian accent?" instead of, "Art, do I have a Russian accent?"
Another distinctly Russian sound is to pronounce the English word "listen" as "leeesen," since the Russian "i" has a long "e" sound to it. The English '"i" in "listen" is more like the sound "eh," spoken for a short moment. It is so short that it is barely there at all, but it is indeed there as a very short vowel between the"l" and the "s." It should never sound like a long "e" when used in a word like "listen."
Loved your tutorials. Interested to learn the basics of French phonetics.🙌
Thank You so much for sharing these tips. You sound amazing. Very helpful.

For me, English is one of those languages that really sounds beautiful with a non-native accent (for lack of better words). Your accent in English is really beautiful! I love it!

I thought you were French until you said your name. Will you be doing more videos on pronunciation? I took a semester of French in 1984. Never took any more classes and I’ve been told I pronounce quite well. Then I started learning Russian five years ago. I’ve been told I pronounce good as well.

I believe you are a gem.... The French community needs you... Never stop doing this😍😍
Thanks!
C'est génial, Merci ❣️
I had a feeling that you are Russian but I thought that you may have some 'French' connection that's very intimate and that was why you relate to the excellent 'French' accent. Perhaps you lived in a French language community. Delighted to make your acquaintance. The way you articulate in 'French' is awesome, just the way some master Spanish or English over here in America. Keep up the good work. I see you are in Los Angeles, CA now, so reach out, don't be shy! I know you are striving to push for perfection in the 'French' language, but to me, having an accent in 'ANY' language and not the 'native' has helped me a lot, more so that if I had perfected it like a native. By the way, I speak 5 languages and understand some Russian since I dated a girl from Moscow while at the University of North Carolina. I do enjoy watching you teach since you take it very seriously as I take my life. Seriously FUN!! ciao bella 😀
Thank God that I found this channel. I need to untie my tongue to pronounce the Rs, haha. Merci beaucoup!.

You have very good English pronunciation!
I Hope to be able to be as well spoken in French as you are in English one day! Sincerely, a native English speaker :)
Amazing video 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thanks for the suggestions. You speak excellent English. As you mentioned "beginner" to start listening podcasts, I'd like to know any prerequisite such as knowing how alphabets, vowels sound or just listening regardless.
Start immediately even without any prerequisites. Of course, the more you know, the better: you’ll start recognizing sounds, words, phrases. That’s fun! But the main point of listening in this case is more about getting used to French speech in general, getting the idea of how they speak(intonations, sounds etc), building neuron connections, preparing your brain to learn French.

The fact that you’re proficient in three languages puts most American English speakers to shame, so be proud of your accent. This American thanks you for sharing your knowledge. Be well!
Bonjour,.. thabk for for this video it was very informative and will surely help me out in my endevour for French. .. may I just say you did and absolutely smashing job speaking English, but as you are clearly big into saying things correct can I point out for you to check how you pronounce chore.. and with no shame at all, because that is one of those rediculous English letters "ch" that have multiple pronunciations. .. thanks again. 💚

can you do some yoga words, Merci! I try to use French yoga youtube video to listen when I exercise, but wish to know what exactly teacher said, as some words connected are so difficult to guess.
It is not just enough to master the "c cedille" - the c with the tail. There is a lot more in French phonetic-wise.
Beautiful
1:35 "so I'm actually French teacher!" should be 'so I'm actually *a* French teacher!' I know you Ruskies don't use the indefinite article a/an, but in French and English, we do!
Do all phonetic sounds pleaee
If I read, I just don't want to say it wrong, and then to be used to the wrong pronunciation. What can I do? Greetings from Mexico.
Hi Anastasia,
You are fantastic, but I immediately exposed your slight charming Russian accent ... :) Your vowels and your L resonate the Russian influence ...
I love your lessons!
I will have to listen to and see you more often!
