  • With a running time of thirteen and a half hours, the Argentinian movie "La Flor" (2018) is the longest movie ever made (not counting art projects and documentaries). So of course, having nothing better to do with my time, I just had to see it and find out why.

    It's interesting that they did this as a movie and not an anthology series or something, but, then again, 6 hour episodes would be long even for a mini series!
    Great video as always!
    What kind of laptop is that?

    • @TonisFilmClub
      @TonisFilmClub  11 месяцев назад +2

      Agreed! It is pretty much anthology series if you really think about it. It’s actually quite hard to argue what qualifies as movie at some point, there are even longer experimental films that are different variations of a very long single shot without any narrative.
      Happy you liked the video! The laptop is a MacBook.

    Would really like to think that you watch movies on a larger screen than a laptop and with headphones at least for some decent sound? For me the viewing size and quality of sound is very, very important to fully extract the film-maker's intentions.

    • @TonisFilmClub
      @TonisFilmClub  Год назад +4

      Yes to a bigger screen but I actually prefer watching with headphones for some reason. I pickup a lot more of the sound that way - or maybe I just need to get my ears checked.

    • @Pioneers_Of_Cinema
      @Pioneers_Of_Cinema Год назад +2

      @@TonisFilmClub Good sound is so important. Behringer headphones are good when I'm not using home cinema set up, which is a 4m screen, Sony 4k projector, Yamaha receiver etc., surround and dolby atmos sound huge sub bass bin. I used to have a 20m screen with huge sound system, but that's my previous life !
      Yes it is true headphones can deliver a purer result as, even with a big home sound system, you get variations due to echo, room acoustics, speaker quality and set up and seating position.

    West of the Tracks and Evolution of a Filipino Family are two 10 hr film’s I watched - obviously Satantango as well - I’d rewatch all 3 - The Cure for Insomnia is 87 hours but, as far as I know- not all that good

    • @TonisFilmClub
      @TonisFilmClub  Месяц назад +2

      Good point! Between those and The Cure of Insomnia, it can be slightly tricky what is technically considered a movie. There is one called "Logistics" which is 857 hours long but it is an art project. For the purpose of this video I narrowed it down to a movie in the traditional sense - with a narrative.
      I will check out the first two you mentioned!

      A lullaby to the sorrowful mystery is an 8 hr film by the same director as the Filipino Family one which I would recommend over it- there is genuinely always the “pretentious and boring” criticism, but seriously I loooved that one
      I never had the faith in Cure for Insomnia to watch it to know about the narrative structure - I kind of checked it out and quickly said na

    In a world full of overly safe, boring, stereotypical Hollywood copy and paste movies, I like that films like this can still exist. I mean, I'm not about to watch it, but I'm glad it exists anyway. The closest I've come is trying to watch an Andy Warhol movie, but at least this film has a plot. And characters. And words. And moving images.
