The plan went to shit right away so there’s no reason she couldn’t hold her own, Mary Sue implies she’s unrealistically good at everything and has no flaws, too premature to label her as such with her not even being a main character
Which makes me wonder why they advertised her on posters and in trailers like she was supposed to be a big part of the movie, but then they gave her like 20 minutes of screen time?? So dumb

Sorry to say that they were far from being “immaculate”. You can see “collar gap” almost all the time. Unacceptable, considering these are, supposedly, bespoke suits from Tom Ford that cost a fortune. Also, beginning with Skyfall, Craig started wearing very tight-fitting suits, which don’t look elegant. Is this meant to make the character appear more powerful? I don’t know, maybe. But it’s not a good fit. His best suits are actually in Quantum of Solace.
Agreed. Craig looks sexy as hell, no homo at all. Loved them particularly through Skyfall and Spectre. Albeit, Casino Royale and Quantum had some more classier, boxier fits which looked quite nice as well.
Or the put down the gun cliche.... I absolutely hate it when the villain has a hostage and good guy puts down his gun. Just lame and I don't know of anyone who would do that in real life.
My husband and I were talking about this exact thing this morning. What's with all of the chatty chat chat? Just pull the trigger already. Also what's with the long fight scenes? If can get up to get a snack and go pee, and they are still sparring when I get back, the fighting scene is way too long.
Historically Bond always allowed women in his life to die or get hurt at his expense. Think the message at the end was that he finally sacrificed himself for a women and child he loved.
Also this is the first Bond we’ve had since Lazenby actually fall in love (maybe they got married IDK) with the love interest. So yes it makes sense he’s be willing sacrifice himself rather than risk exposing Madeleine or their daughter to the nanobots, I think any husband/father would do that for his wife and daughter. But honestly would it have killed them to let this Bond get a happy ending, he’s the one who had the most tragedy and heartbreak.
@@hollandfray4521 you need to see on your Majesty Secret Service if you want to see a Bond in love. Its a top tier bond film and one it get the feels at the end.
I just love how Ben calmly reassembled the plot like. "What if James Bond didn't know whether he can trust the woman or not? What if this movie was abt James Bond the Agent and James Bond the man who wants to finally build a normal life with someone he truly loves? And in the end, he ends up making the wrong decision of not trusting her but when he finds out he was wrong, it's too late coz now he has to fight the bad guy and he sacrifices himself to save the planet." This.
" And in the end, he ends up making the wrong decision of not trusting her but when he finds out he was wrong" The idiot movie have a 5 year timejump... James Bond gets nothing done during those years similar to "Rise of Skywalker" where Luke Skywalker is supposed to have spent years "searching" for the dagger... These idiot writers dont even bother to make years move for the character. They just conclude "Years passed, nothing happened" then after awhile they exiled themselves somewhere to die from where the genius script gets them for a "final job" which off course is written to make them die to market a new character.... Absolute Ass!
Safin was obsessed with Madeleine because he saved her life and claims that now he’s attached to her and she belongs to him in a way. Basically he was just fucked up
I have a (film) theory that explains a lot...(Spolers ahead) And this isn't ALL my theory, so don't shoot the messenger.. I think that 'Skyfall' (2012) is the last James Bond film.. Sky falling is another word for the End of the world... The intro scene sees James Bond falling to his death from a bridge after being shot by another agent.. Even the title sequence suggests Bond is dead with a tombstone and all.. And Adele sings "For this is the end ; I've drowned and dreamt this moment".. SO, the theory goes: EVERYTHING you see after this, is the final temptation of Bond, AND his final thoughts before death (we even see his tombstone as I said)... He sees his fears come true..MI6 being blown up.. Some guy suggesting Bond is homosexual.. and thus Bond is no womanizer.. Foreshadowing someone named 'Eve'. THEN.. the next James Bond movie is called 'Spectre (2015) which means 'a ghost'. (ALL happenstance as Ian Fleming would put it). So James is a ghost now, and in his last film 'No time to Die' (2021), he is faced with all kind of religious concepts before dying.. The villain is Lyutsifer Safin... well, that is Lucifer aka Satan.. we also have MAdeline (origin being Mary Magdalene). And why the name Paloma =dove( meaning the use of a dove as a symbol of peace originated with early Christians, who portrayed baptism accompanied by a dove)? I know, I know, laugh at me.. BUT...think about the broken mask suggesting the two-faced Judas. Think about the final scene and Bond dying(or not).. We have a Judas, we have a Mary.. THEN who is playing Jesus?. WELL, he is the guy who sacrificed himself for the need of the many. James Bond did die at the end..But don't worry, the end titles of the movie says 'James Bond will return'..
@@ZoolGatekeeper facisnating analysis that adds up and makes sense. I noticed there was foreshadowing in the opening gun-barrel of No Time to Die, as Bond fades to white, instead of us seeing the blood of his enemy on the screen. Because in this instance, the enemy had won.

@@brunotheburrito I thought this too, but when I think back, we don't see his whole face at the beginning of the film. It's very possible that he's like 18 at the beginning. That puts him at only a few years older than Swann.

True, but Quantum of Solace is an epilogue of sorts to Casino Royale. And Bond makes peace with her death at the end when he tracks down her former lover and spares his life despite his betrayal of Vesper. Vesper is still a major presence in that film even if she herself never appears in it.
Great review; I agree with nearly everything. However, I thought that Madeleine Swann’s father was the founder of Spectre, that Safin was obsessed by her because he killed her family like her father did his, and in sparing her they shared a fateful childhood trauma - she’s his mirror image. I may have misinterpreted the film, but I thought that his obsession made clear sense.

@@l.choitz6472 I think George Lazenby is truly an underrated Bond, and I overall really like how Bond was written in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Bond is a badass in that film, particularly in the action sequences where he doesn’t indulge in any nonsense; he fights quickly and efficiently. And I didn’t get bored with his near-perfect fights because the choreography favored the idea of Bond thinking quickly on his feet. I remember a fight in the film, for instance, where Bond recognized someone who was going to fight him and Bond ended the fight in about 5 seconds by throwing a chair at the enemy. That was also a nice callback to how often Connery’s Bond used chairs in many of his fights (my friend and I at the time ended up calling Connery-Bond’s martial art “Chair-Fu” simply because he used chairs in as many fights as possible),. Anyway, yeah, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and George Lazenby did many things right (I even love that the opening Bond song is instrumental).

I think the movie focused more on providing closure to the story arcs that Craig's Bond was involved in. Because of that, there was emphasis on Bond's character development - to ensure this, they did not want the villains to steal the show and instead provided a "line of angry little men." The new 007, intentionally inexperienced, again helps to place Craig front and center and re-establishes his importance. And I think they also wanted to test the waters about how ppl would react to women lead roles for their upcoming spinoffs.
no. you're close tho it'll be a transgender female to male, and she (he? they?) will only identify as an octogenarian. They're obviously actually a 23 year old white girl who just graduated from Vassar.

Ben’s comments about the plot holes seems to resonate with me. I find that a lot of the modern films / tv shows these days don’t have good stories. Some seem to just care about box ticking and woke politics but others just ignore the story altogether. Perhaps I am just an old fart
It seems that they have certain things they feel the need to be part of the movie which gives it a cobbled together feel overall - need to keep it simpler. Craig was good as usual and will be a hard act to follow!
I get the sense that the modern film industry at least with big blockbuster type movies will write the story around a cast they have in mind rather than finding the right cast to bring a story to life. I think they really wanted to promote lashana Lynch and Rami Malek even though their characters felt really unnecessary
i think most films, from all times, have had bad stories we cherry pick the very best classic movies that we remember, and think that all movies back then were star wars and the godfather but 90 percent of all movies have always sucked kind of hard to figure out why tho, movies literally have teams of hundreds and often thousands of very talented people trying very hard to make them very good, and they often just aren't kind of sad. i guess making a great movie is just much much harder than it seems because there certainly aren't many of them

The film stunk on ice. The action choreography was something out of a video game, almost every interior shot was in a garish murk, and James Bond was a tired, broken alcoholic.
This is the best review ever of this movie. I felt exactly the same about the movie leaving movie theatre. It just didn't make sense, lots of things were left completely unexplained. Utterly confusing. Too bad to end the series on this note.

The JJ Abrams Star Wars trilogy is trash, an incoherent mess with weak characters and boring stories, but there is good stuff in there, Adam Driver is great in all 3 films, and they do look amazing…….but they are awful movies. The Mandalorian really is the closest to the feel of the original trilogy (more ‘Return of the Jedi’ than ‘A New Hope’) but even that has filler episodes. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was brought on to rewrite this movie. She helped Kathleen Kennedy destroy the Star Wars franchise by playing a socially-conscious android in Solo, the first Star Wars to LOSE money. She's also helping to destroy Indiana Jones as we speak as stories leak out that an ancient, dying Indy puts his Fedora on her head (but Disney has shut it down for a year, probably because Bond is under performing). I'm sorry new Bond is not Bond. James Bond movies were always about exotic location, exotic women, fun gadgets and action and sometimes over the top villains. Danial Craig's Bond is just some other gritty reality movie.
Within the first 20 minutes of the film: 1. No one can jump off a bridge and hold on to a cable with their bare hands. After 10 feet of falling the cable would rip out of your hands and you would fall to your death. 2. Throughout the shootout on the bridge, the bad guys are randomly shooting in the direction of, not only bond, but the other bad guys as well. 3. All the staircases that bond rides up with a dirt bike are conveniently lined with ramp blocks. Also, no one is going to jump off a wall at that angle with that speed. You would just hit the wall. 4. A man walks up to Bonds car, shooting a weapon (I believe a $ho+gun) that clearly has a limited magazine. He fires close to 30 rounds without reloading. For a magazine that fits in his hand, it's hard to believe he could hold that many rounds. 5. Bad guys surrounding Bond's car and firing automatic weapons in the direction of each other. Once again, bad guys would be accidentally shooting each other. Apparently bullet penetration and ricochets don't exist in the Bond world. Plot aside, the action sequences lacked realism. Even for a Bond film.
I have the feeling that the young storytellers of today write as though they are patching together various video game scenarios that made them briefly affected. An overarching, coherent, believable story is nowhere to be found.
When I first saw Jason Bourne I thought: James Bond is SO dead! And then Daniel Craig saved 007...only for the Bond producers to end up killing him!! THAT SUCKS!
For what it's worth, they do say Blofeld was only willing to talk with Lea Seydoux's character, which is exactly what Blofeld do to annoy Bond. So, MIS went along with it and didn't tell Bond because he was retired and they had not reason to annoy him. At least that aspect can be explained easily.
None of the Craig Bond movies made any since. Seriously, what was Bond stopping in any of these films? All of them were soap operas with a giant budget.
The fact that she’s 007 is terrible. I mean, Bond saved the world at least 20 times. And they didn’t even care to retire his number??? But adding her into the film did nothing. The only significance she had was to blow up the base if needed and to hold the Russian scientist hostage. Plus, I never got the point of Luke Ash. Like, seriously, did they just add him in to get an extra 30 minutes? Other than all that, I think the movie was ok. I’d give it 7.1/10.
Spot on. As a Bond fan I sat through that ultra long movie out of loyalty but I checked out mentally an hour in. Loved the locations, outfits, and cars though. Daniel Craig is the best Bond but that movie sucked
My feeling at the end was that this was an honorable death. Bond actually died in a final show of overwhelming male virtue. While actually that sort of feels like it was an accident, not in line with the dark-skinned lady being rather aggressive about being the better successor.
Wasn't it said that Blofeld would only speak to Seydoux's character hence her working for MI6 ? And looking back I agree with another comment here that there was more on screen chemistry between Craig and De Armas in that segment than with Seydoux in a movie and a half.
I feel like Ben didn’t really pay attention to the film and just wanted to complain. Firstly, Vespa, Bond’s girlfriend in Casino Royale died at the end. She wasn’t in the other films, Ben. Secondly, Rami Malek’s character, Sarfin, wants to destroy Spectre for their involvement in the death of his family. Sarfin is infatuated with Madeline (Bond’s new girlfriend) after saving her because he believes when you save a life that life is forever indebted to yours. Madeleine is also the daughter of one of the key members of Spectre (Blofed’s organisation). Hence why Blofed only wants to talk to Madeleine. Also, I find it a bit rich that Ben likes Amas character despite the fact she is clearly a Mary Sue but dislikes the black woman for being “incompetent”.
It is strange that everyone who is agreeing with Ben, missed the points you made. You're right and the plot made perfect sense. Some people get confused by complex plots that are not in a straight line. They were clearly packing quite a bit into the movie to tie up loose ends before Craig finished as Bond. I don't agree with Paloma being a Mary Sue. She's clearly more skilled than she's letting on and the movie doesn't really dive more into her character. She only had three weeks of training by the CIA but she may have had many years of training and experience with Cuban Intelligence. And in a series of spies and lies, we don't know if there is even more to her than what she says. I don't agree with Ben on Nomi being incompetent. Maybe, compared to Bond but we don't really get to see an origin story for Bond. I'm sure he would be rough around the edges if we got to see when he started out.

Only issue is that is that she is a Mary Sue... got to that level with a few weeks of training
@@pradeep_sekar I think that label is overused. She has 15 minutes of screen time and her training was specifically for covert operations, not combat training. The plan went to shit right away so there’s no reason she couldn’t hold her own, Mary Sue implies she’s unrealistically good at everything and has no flaws, too premature to label her as such with her not even being a main character
She's good in every film she's in.

@@brunotheburrito I thought this too, but when I think back, we don't see his whole face at the beginning of the film.

Modern tv and movies - no story line and everyone is gay or trans.
That’s because they start with an agenda and then fill in the holes from there. It’s convoluted from the beginning

we cherry pick the very best classic movies that we remember, and think that all movies back then were star wars and the godfather
but 90 percent of all movies have always sucked

Unfortunately we did not really know the intentions of Rami Melek's villain.
I love Ben's blunt honesty. Other reviews are too scared to be honest
Rami Malek is a fantastic actor but I feel his character was "rushed" and "unfinished" and not developed more...Too bad...

@@bradhaines3142 …..Rogue One is a great film (despite the ending being reshot by a different director #releasetheEdwardscut) and is certainly my favourite film of the Disney era of Star Wars…..SOLO is also excellent and I would love to see the Lord/Miller cut which I understand is a funnier more “Guardians of the Galaxy”style than the rather more serious Ron Howard version that we got.
I look forward to any new Star Wars movies or tv shows, but they can never recapture what made that first trilogy so special, as I said before.

The real bond would have found a cure and released it at the end. Killing bond makes no sense.
Naomi Harris who played as Money Penny would have been a great choice as a field agent but this replacement of Bond is BS.
They're killing all of the icons.
Of course they are. Can’t be woke in a world where the heroes are via heteronormative tough guys

Should've had her on my radar since "Solo" (2018). Ty for the hint.

James Bond OO7 in "The World is NOT Socially Distanced Enough."
That one is really funny.
I'm sorry new Bond is not Bond. James Bond movies were always about exotic location, exotic women, fun gadgets and action and sometimes over the top villains.
Danial Craig's Bond is just some other gritty reality movie.
The new Bond films have exotic locations, women, and action. Over the top villains outside of action/comedy are laughable. Dr. No anybody?
But they do have all those things
Within the first 20 minutes of the film:
Ben: "I saw the new James Bond movie."
Me: "I sympathize."
I have the feeling that the young storytellers of today write as though they are patching together various video game scenarios that made them briefly affected. An overarching, coherent, believable story is nowhere to be found.
I like Ben's plot idea.
Looks like he needs to make another action flick. 👍
Blofeld should’ve been the real villian at the end.
M should have been.
When I first saw Jason Bourne I thought: James Bond is SO dead! And then Daniel Craig saved 007...only for the Bond producers to end up killing him!! THAT SUCKS!
It’s been 15 years, shut up
For what it's worth, they do say Blofeld was only willing to talk with Lea Seydoux's character, which is exactly what Blofeld do to annoy Bond. So, MIS went along with it and didn't tell Bond because he was retired and they had not reason to annoy him. At least that aspect can be explained easily.
So, Blofeld pulled a Raymond Reddington.
I heard that Metal gear reference, and I appreciate it.
1. Skyfall
2. Casino Royale
3. No Time to Die
4. Spectre
5. Quantum of Solace
Love Ben reviewing movies!
None of the Craig Bond movies made any since. Seriously, what was Bond stopping in any of these films? All of them were soap operas with a giant budget.
Exactly how I feel minus Casino Royale.
I'm with ya. I miss brosnan man goldeneye was the shit when I was younger I was obsessed.
Bro Craig is wayyyyyy better than Pierce
Ben's suggestion for what the story should have been is actually brilliant and would have made the movie great.Wow.
I really disliked this one. Craig had two bangers casino royale and sky fall, the rest were meh
The rest were great except this one
Skyfall is my favorite.
Yes, but WHY will he only speak to her?

My fave Bond is Timothy Dalton. I feel he was very underrated & underappreciated.
Craig is my favorite, but Dalton is definitely #2! He was a great Bond!
Christopher Nolan s fav bond was Timothy Dalton as well...totally admired him...he even mentioned that the reason Timothy s bond failed was scripts were terrible to his bond standard

I thought that I was gonna get pissed of bond dying but then I remembered that he dies in the old novels as well. I guess its how he dies. The book in question is From Russia, With Love.
Good riddance!
He wasn't able to become a responsible dad, which wouldn't fit with the character. And it is only assumed that he died because nobody could survive that ending, except... Bond, James Bond.

Finally someone who says it. After almost two years I still can’t understand how bad this movie is. I would even rank Quantum higher.
I realize we've never seen Bond die in a movie before, and that has a novelty to it, but I don't see why they couldn't have sent him off raising a family. That's something we haven't seen either. I'm not even a person that usually cares about the "agenda" but it's hard not to see it when they kill James Bond by literally turning him into a "toxic male." That felt mean spirited to me and it just ruined the movie for me, the good stuff in it too.

It wasnt a real bond. He has been watered down. The bond from the books and the movies before the craig era. Was a womaniser, a masculine hero, calm under pressure, shaken but not stirred and after he saved the word. The end of the movies were Bond having his wicked way with a beautiful woman coz he had time to spare

Daniel Craig has said that he would retire from the role of James Bond if he felt he was too old to play the character. Craig has also said that it has become harder to be fit enough for the role and that there has been more use of doubles for action sequences.
