I don't know what to say about the audio difference... Echoes decreased, but volume seems to have dropped as well. I think a bigger sample size is necessary.

I notice when you square blade you come out not completely square. Is there a reason for that? Guessing it’s easier? More room?
Its called quarter feather
To be honest, its a bad habit! It does make it easier, and you do get a similar effect from the drill - but I am working on keeping it 100% square!
