When people mean underrated they mean his persona not famous these days, only a glimpse of their 40 years ago success by people who remember. Many musicians are don't deserve to be forgotten, but Midge is just national treasure, a legend, he deserves more recognition these days. Too good for media and people talking about him.
Midge Ure works his magic on this track and produces the best version in my opinion. I've always loved his voice in Ultravox and this recording continues to demonstrate his obvious vocal talent. I also love his effective, unpretentious guitar work on this track - he makes it (and myself) cry. Very few artists improve on an original but Midge has done just that in a dynamic but respectful manner.
Even in 2021 this is an amazing video. I loved the arty style of Midge’s early solo work. He was very much showing the true meaning of the old/ new romantic era of the early 1980’s. I was an old romantic myself
Hearing this for the first time in 2024 and the first 5 seconds have already twinged my heart strings with such a nostalgic pull. Definitely about to listen to Midge’s entire discography 🤩
Love this version...hearing Midge perform it on his 2023 tour is bliss..I've done three.. Sheffield, Stockton & Manchester ..I would do Llandudno but work say Noooo
Thank you for this-it is so wonderful really! Midge Ure's first-and best? solo single outside of Ultravox at the time of course. A cover of the Walker Brothers No Regrets hit before. I have the issue of Smash Hits from June 1982 here in Britain that includes the words for this one in it, and I know it was written by a Tom Rush apparently. Surprisingly I am not so keen on his next own hit If I Was in 1985, even though it was a number one for him at the time. I prefer this and of course most of his Ultravox hits such as Vienna, Hymn, Visions In Blue, All Stood Still, The Thin Wall, Reap The Wild Wind, Lament, One Small Day, etc; although I was not so keen on Dancing With Tears In My Eyes or Love's Great Adventure; nor their later hits either, but each to their own I guess. Well done too!!
I know you're leaving but it's too long overdue For far too long, I've had nothing new to show to you Goodbye, dry eyes, I've watched your 'plane fade off west of the moon And it felt so strange to walk away alone There's no regrets No tears goodbye I don't want you back We'd only cry again Say goodbye again The hours that were yours echo like empty rooms The thoughts we used to share I now keep alone I woke last night and spoke to you Not thinking you were gone And it felt so strange to lie awake alone There's no regrets No tears goodbye I don't want you back We'd only cry again Say goodbye again There's no regrets No tears goodbye I don't want you back We'd only cry again Say goodbye again
I dedicate this song to all my former girlfriends of my past. We all went our separate ways. Btw this is one heck of a song .👍 A meaningful song ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was released around the time a long term and very deep relationship was breaking up. I felt that I learned a lot from the relationship. It was time to move on. This song struck deep in my heart at the time, but I still love this version.
The original was a pure country tune! Midge has done a few covers over the years he did a whole cd called 10, 3 stand out tracks, this, man of the world, and lady starlight, 2 others man who sold the world, and the supernatural! when he does them, he's is honest it's his interpretation of them it's not an exact copy, he tweaks them to suit, Harry Rush, a song writing legend as far as Mr Ure said at 1 gig I was at,1 of the q and a out alone tours, I was at both, 2 nights each! but what he does is respectful of the original but makes it his version! He has been compared to the late GREAT PETER GREEN, not by me, by Gordon Gilltrap, well renowned folk musician/guitarist who said feel wise his vibrato is the closest to Peter he has ever heard! he has a voice with quite a range nothing like Freddie Mercury or Harry Nillson, maybe an octave less! but he is incredibly underrated! I have met him and got his autograph lost in a house clearance! but he keeps going doing what he loves, creating music, playing live! it was pur country this song he made it a POP/SOFT ROCK CLASSIC! Man of the World, a song with AMAZING PLAYING AND DEEP MEANINGFUL LYRICS! 1 forgot 1 other MY minds Eye by the Small Faces, a throw away pop song, with such a hook intro, that chord progression it's not hard to play, but it is classic earworm, and those lyrics! When he admires someone, he goes all in! but he has done some amazing work with Ultravox as well as solo! Yes he is a hero, I picked up a keyboard, then a guitarbecause of him, my dad played guitar, then switched to accordion, and he knew music, but was no teacher! my son plays guitar better than me my daughter keyboards and what an artist!
@@stephenwalton1932 but the voice of John Foxx is not so great and clear, then the voice of Midge. John has a standard voice, but Midge his voice is excellent.

I think I remember Midge Ure himself referring to this cover as horribly over-produced (or words to that effect). Nevertheless, it holds up on its own merits, really underrated.

Did Mick Karn play on this cover? Certainly the bass player is imitating Karn if it wasn't Mick. Scott Walker, what an interesting talent. This song feels so slight...casual...it's mysterious...and a little irritating too...meant to seem sad...but it seems dismissive, resigned...confusing...I have a love hate thing with the song, lol But big respect for it and the artists... Midge Ure, a truly amazing work ethic musician...
A brave choice to cover a song so strongly associated with Scott Walker it's a very good version by Midge but he's really on a hiding to nothing as the tone and delivery will be always compared to the master Scott Walker.

You must've missed Slik!😂
Slik was Midge’s band. So what are you talking about? What bandwagon??
If you had read the comment I made you would see I made mention to the video not bands
If you’re going to troll someone read properly
Certainly one of the best male voices in pop business. And also a gifted composer. It brings so much joy and enjoyment. Thank you!!

Gives it the Midge Ure treatment ... power-pop perfection 👌🏼
I love the original, but I also love this version he's done a fantastic job 👏 ❤😊
One of my favorite songs from Midge.
