Palo has such a calming demeanor. He seems like a chill and easy going friend. Great videos Taku. Love the NZ adventures so far
I cracked up at how excited Taku was when he caught that eel 😊
Same
The guest (Local guy) is so nice and very chill.
Food looks awesome❤
Paulo and Wifey are super chill people. Love them.
Love how Taku is so amped at things New Zealanders take for granted, might pop down to the stream and get myself dinner. Epic bro!
You make New Zealanders overseas homesick 😢 the lifestyle back home we all just take for granted until you're not there any more. Great video.
Kia korua, eels cooked over hot coals remind me of my childhood. That was quite a good size, glad you’re enjoying some of Tangaroa’s bountiful resources on offer. FYI and with all due respect, in many areas (NOT EVERYWHERE) it’s customary to ask from and give thanks to the environment that provides for us. Basically, hunting and gathering with humility and respect for the environment. In other areas, it’s deemed good luck to also release the first catch of the day.
I want to take the opportunity to give a huge shout to your host, nga mihi hoki ki a korua/koutou, safe travels, looking forward to your next post, ma te wa (until next time) noho ora mai.
Really been loving the New Zealand videos. It is now the number 1 place I want to go!
GOTTA LOVE TAKU TUESDAYS 😎😎
Wednesday
@@ballchinian911 Tuesday In The US
I'm eating while watching lol 😅
From ChatGPT:
Eels can continue to move longer than most animals after death. This prolonged movement is due to their unique physiology, which includes a simple nervous system and a slow metabolic rate. These factors allow their nerve cells to function longer without oxygen, resulting in muscle contractions and movement even after death. Additionally, eels possess a high tolerance for low oxygen conditions, which further contributes to their post-mortem movement.
Perfect harvesting sized eel not a monster but a good sustainable size😊😊😊
I hope hw gwts all thw eels that way theres nonne left
@@bradystewart4508 why?
Watching you guys interactions with other people around the world gives me hope for a brighter future. Can feel the love in the work you are doing and it is appreciated.
My husband was so drunk and I told him you uploaded a new video and he literally sat there holding his eyes open watching lol.. I should of videoed him! You and Jocelyn would of been very humoured 😂😂😂
Hey bro, Someone may have mentioned already but the reason it's still moving is the brain is in the tail. next time take a little bat or club and hit it on the tail. it's nervous system is in reverse from the tail to the head so cutting off the head means it can't bite but the rest of the body can still move.
Palo's reaction when Taku got the eel is everything :D
I ❤️ when you & Jocelyn forage for mushrooms & seafood. I support both of you 100% & this channel.
aotearoa (New Zealand) has such a rich culture and history. I hope that Taku and Jocelyn have an opportunity to cook and fish with traditional Maoli people. your host seems very knowledgeable I enjoy listening to him teach you how to catch eel
In Hawaiian the white eel is called Puhi
I hope he does too ❤❤
Maori not Maoli
@@jack-he7fv lol eʻkala mai (excuse me, im Hawaiian (Kanaka Maoli) Thank you
@@shawnaokami-rosehill8123 Maoli makes great music lol
New Zealand is definitely the most beautiful place on earth. Stoked to see your content over there.
We have eels in our stream, we used to catch them as kids, and then our children followed suit but haven’t had them for a few years. You’ve just inspired me with that recipe, looks delicious. That looked like a long fin eel which is bit more scarce than the short fin eel. If it was a long fin, it was literally a baby, they grow huge and are one of the largest eels in the world. Also unlike the short fin, it is only found in New Zealand. The short fin is also in Australia and the pacific islands.
Awesome sauce!!! Hope you and Jocelyn are enjoying your adventures. Stay healthy and safe, and always look forward to the next video! 😁😎
I enjoy watching your adventures with Paolo, it's so wholesome. I wish there are other catch and cook channels as good or better than yours so I don't have to wait weekly, but alas there are none (I've tried a few of them by now...) so I'm just looking forward to every Taku Tuesday :) keep up the great work guys it means a lot to us
Love how happy you are Taku. NZ is awesome. Have loved your adventures in Aotearoa and Niue. ❤
Hi Taku and Jocelyn.. My name is Carl. I live in Alberta Canada. I just wanted to say to you both. Please do not feel bad about showing us the gory side of fishing if people think that fish come wrapped in cellophane on Styrofoam plates, they will never understand that the real process involves having to cut a fish apart and remove its flesh..
I love watching your videos please don’t stop doing what you are doing .. I have learnt so much from watching you fillet fish and cook it and prepare it.
NZ freshwater eels are so good smoked...seriously good!
Taku, you're perfect for NZ with your love for fishing and your immaculate cooking skills... I'm sure you're having a blast!
Love your cook ups, Always inspiring and encourages me to challenge myself
East coast has eel populations. They taste good. They also fight hard on hook and line.
Thank you so much for sharing these pro tips and the beautiful pictures of your travels!
Spending time in upstate NY in the Catskills back in the day... We caught many fresh water eels in the rivers and they can live with out a head for hours. The nerves keep firing for over 24 hours sometimes and it can be very difficult to skin or filet them. They do taste amazing, we used to smoke them.
Why isn't this channel at 1M yet!?!?!?
Excellent episode! This channel is amazing! Thank you!
Watching your videos for a long time, awesome to see you here in NZ! Enjoy!
Always been a place I’ve wanted to visit since a child, but the more I see New Zealand the more I think I’ve found a home that looks like peace away from the toxic family members I’ve always been attached too here in the states
I left the states 20 years ago and every time I talk to family back home they remind me why I'm so happy to be here in New Zealand. There seems to be so much drama with family in the states All the time. I moved back to the states in 2013 and lasted 2 years. I just could not get back into the lifestyle in the states. I came back to New Zealand in 2015 and I will never go back to the states. You should come check it out
@@manuelsaiz7539 I hope to one day
I’m loving these New Zealand videos!!! Keep them coming 🔥
I loved Paulo's story about his "trout fishing" at the end 😅😂. Thats a story i could imagine one of the old uncles from back home telling us as youngsters. Just the naivety of the whole story was hilarious and so down to earth ❤😂
Ahh man! Looks delicious! You guys so humble! Your host is spectacularly humble as well. Love watching your videos, makes the end to my hectic day peaceful. Thank you.
perfectly on time for a new vid
Amazing Taku! I had a great time enjoying this video during my work break. That Eel looked delicious 🤤!

I was thinking the same thing... The "bathroom hole" 😆
Cool video! That Unagi looked so good!! Your new friends seem cool too! Safe travels and can't wait for the next one!!
Glad you are enjoying your time in our beautiful country!
I love Eel.... Beautiful presentation I can only imagine how wonderful it tastes.... Greetings from Wyoming
New Zealand eels are legendary. I remember first trying smoked eel when I was 10 and it was presented on the table as a whole eel and it looked so disgusting and I tried it and since then I have loved eel.
Palos cometary while taku was spearing was everything! 😂 love this guy 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Insane Catch and Cook❤❤❤❤❤ Mad Props!!!!!
God, I love Unagi so much, especially on top of rice! Plain and simple, it hits all the spots!
Yummy- and I bet you two gonna stay forever in NZ - it’s a perfect fit ❤
Seeing the eel go for the bait and do death rolls was so cool!
This is NOT a criticism, as I loved the episonde and my mouth was watering in all of the appropriate bits but...
We have eels in the creek at our place. We feed them and have individual names for some of the larger ones. One of our party pieces when the kids and grandkids come over to visit is to put out food for the eels. The come up to us and we can get VERY close. They are great to photograph and video with the underwater camera.
Eels are hugely long lived and one of the two species we have here (long finned eels) are declining. I have trouble considering eating eels now.
Again, definitely not a criticism of the episode!
NZ looks amazing.
The food looks amazing.
Thanks TakLyn! Thats Palo and wife!
Thanks for the video…always enjoying your content…stay safe !!
Nice catch taku! Can't wait for the next catch and cook ❤❤
That’s amazing you are in New Zealand such a great episode!

Yessir I’m happy you visited my country.
Thank you... you guys are awesome..!!
New Zealand arc is the best so far. love it
Look really delicious. Thank you for sharing an incredible video.
Started watching your series of different episodes in Canada. Loved your content especially the style and recipes you do. The beautiful presentation of catch and cook. I am excited to see you're in my country NZ. What you did with the eel was so great that I wish I was there with you, your good lady and friends to share that beautiful meal. Welcome to my country ehoa. Te na kato katoa.
Everything you make
ALWAYS LOOKS DELICIOUS
You can remove the slime before you clean your fish by using white distilled vinegar spray it on using a spray bottle. And letting it sit for 5 minutes give or take. Then Rinse it off using high-pressure from the garden hose. If still slimy repeat a second time. Makes cleaning your fish way easier it's not sliding around
Love Unagi......... New Zealand looks epic!!!
Unagi is one of my all-time favorite foods.
huge freshwater eel looked tasty! thank you for sharing your Vids, always great to watch.
That underwater shot was awesome.
loving the new videos was amazed when you and Jocelyn went to my home land Niue fekai and are now traveling around the country i call home is surreal. God bless yous
In the US, Maine has the sustainable eels. I thought Oregon amd Washington were gonna try
Yes Taku, we do have eels! The Eel river in Humboldt county is named for the freshwater eels, as a kid we got eels on the Trinity and Klamath rivers.
A smoked one of this size is a pure delicacy. Good job on spearing it so perfectly.
Thanks for sharing!! Glad to be apart of your adventures! From Texas
Awesome catch and cook Taku !
This video is so good I had to watch it twice, back to back!😊
That meal looked bomb but the company looked even better!! Looks like you're having a great time with one of your items on your bucket list marked off. Cheers from Nor Cal!
Hand-caught unagi. Yum! Keep up the awesome work, Taku. And, take care. 😋

I love the Rosemary as a brush for the sauce. Can't wait to try that with something.
Second video for me. South Island looks so good. Really enjoying your channel mate.
We actually do have river eel on the west coast. We’ll at least in Oregon called Lamprey eel.
