In the mid 90's I bought a Stihl FS85 straight shaft trimmer with the 2 hand handle. He recommended the Supercut 20-2 head. Been running it ever since. I have a extra spool that I keep on hand and switch out as needed. I didn't know what I bought until this video. Good review of the popular heads on the market. (I still have the proper size rod to take the head off. Came with the unit when I bought it new)
I've got the same trimmer from the same time with the same head. :) What's bothering me is that lately the line advances much less often and erratically, which often leaves me with too short of a line to cut efficiently and I can't do anything to advance it. If anybody knows how to fix it, that would be great.
Just a quick note of thanks for your generous gift of a Toro Mower for Al Baldez the mower guy…hope it gives you much pleasure and great advertising experience.
The product information with my Echo Speedfeed heads state: .095 - 20 feet; .105 - 10 feet. I did the same as you, woundup the string until the head tightened up. Don't know how much it took up (maybe just shy of 30ft), however, the line heated up and melted to itself. It's best to measure off 15-20 feet and call it a day. I found it works perfectly with those lengths and sizes.

The other interesting point about engineering is that the stihl has an issue when you are bumping. The stihl has the recesses and grabbing points on the face of the spool which means when you are bumping they are hitting the ground, the uneven surface and valleys on the head are going to hit uneven surfaces on the ground possibly and chisel away at the head and ground more causing more marks etc. Where the speed feed has a flat and smooth surface which will not grind at the ground and chisel when you are bumping. It uses the outside perimeter to grab to load which as you said, is easier at your fingertips. I guess Sthil was foresighted and did not think about the affects of bumping on the ground with an uneven head underside surface rather than just thinking about how you grab it to wind.
A word of advice for all people that are going to trimm their garden. Cut the entire yarn of line into 3 or 4 meter long pieces. That way you will save a lot of time and some nerves trying to unwind the yarn of line. It will be much quicker to spool the trimmer head that way.
I'm stihl (pun) rockin the 30-2 trimmer head on my FS110. it's been a great head and I can get the spool replacements at my local dealer. been running it for 14 years now and with slight modification to the spools I run the 3.3mm line. recently I bought an FS91 which came with the Autocut 26-2 and I gotta say I really like it.
I threw the bumphead away for my Echo Brushcutter when it was new and installed a fixed alloy head and cut cord to suit, I also use a special saw blade made for them to cut tall grass etc. Here in Australia
Re-hydrate old trimmer nylon by dropping the spool in a bucket of water (not the trimmer head) for a day or two. Even line that's new but been on the shelf for years can dry out...
Not sure where you got 10' from? "Accepts 20' of .095" line" - quoted from Echo Speed Feed 400 specs. "Accepts 25' of .095" line" - quoted from Echo Speed Feed 450 specs. If your trimmer line is old & brittle, you can soak it in a bucket of water for a couple days. That will hydrate the line & rejuvenate it. Others have shared this trick on You Tube. I've tried many, many different trimmer heads over the past few decades. The Echo Speed Feed is by far the best one I have used. Loading is simple/fast, & I can live with 20' loaded at a time. I also suggest checking out MaxPower trimmer line tested by Project Farm on You Tube. Project Farm clips are awesome information! No matter what trimmer I bought, I would toss the factory head (unless it's an Echo) & add an Echo Speed Feed on it.
@@mainstreetmower I know 20' of .095 will go into a Speed Feed 400 with ease. I think a Stihl trimmer head will hold more trimmer line because you are taking the entire head apart to wrap the line around the spools. When you do that, you are somewhat wrapping it snug around the spools. The spools could be larger I guess, too. When I load I Speed Feed head, my two hands are manipulating the trimmer head. I am not applying any tension to the trimmer line as it winds into the head. I have to believe the line is not wrapped as tightly around the Speed Feed spools. The nicest thing about the Speed Feed is no tools are necessary to do this. You don't even have to remove the head from the trimmer to reload it. it's actually easier to reload if you don't remove it.

I have an FS 160. I’ve had it for over 25 years never touched. It works fantastic but I’m having a tough time finding a head that’ll fit it. Any recommendations thank you, sir. I appreciate it. Good job on the video.
I used some really thick line on my 22cc trimmer. During use, I noticed that the line lasted much longer. But, the motor became really hot. It couldn't spin as fast. I could see that the line wasn't hitting the weeds as hard. Yeah that heavy line is great, but yir trimmer must have a lot of power .
I have an fs 250, and use the 31.2 I have actually never seen the string being feed like that, and went and searched it. You are right in the way it is supposed to go. I am surprised that the Stihl dealer never said anything during the times it has been in the shop. They even replaced the head, and restringed it the same way. Now that I think about it, I believe most people here string it the same way. Tropical climate here, so a lot of people run the big stuff. So I will try to explain this. Cut two pieces 17 inches. Take one piece fold it in half put both ends through the slotted holes, then inside send the two ends out the bottom round holes, and repeat for the other side. This gives four exposed strings. The largest I go is .130, have done this way for years now. I definitely want to try the right method, and see what kind of difference it makes. Thanks for the informative video.

Contractors out there not using guards, they are opening up problems with warranty and even insurance claims when filming there action, plus giving other users bad habits that shouldn’t be promoted. Insurance companies love to not pay claims, if your a RUclipsr that’s no one ammunition to a insurance company. Hence the use of the Guard in your video today on all blades, personally have used a star blade no 3 they are great for high grass jobs. You can’t make an Industrial video about welding in thongs, though you have all the other safety equipment.
Question, do all head units or mostly all come with those chromed "dog ears"? Those chromed like rings that are where u would feed the line through....
My bump head wasn't rotating. Couldn't figure it out for a while then realized that dirt had built up on the inside of the bump and was keeping the spool from going all the way down. Turns out I must have lost the cap (if there is one) on the bump because it has a bunch of triangle holes on top and the cap is practically flush with the rest of the body. When I bump it on the ground, dirt smashes through the holes. Maybe I'll put some tape on it.
You probably got a defective weed Wacker. I have one and been using mine for a couple of years with no issues. Hope you get it replaced soon and give it another try. The thing works well for me.
Thanks for that, once, when a Stihl engineer from Germany was visiting us, he was surprised that our trimmers did not have super cuts on them, that was the first time I realized they may ship machines with different accessories in different countries.

Turns out the 2620t (25-26cc) pushes the .155 line just perfectly. Surprisingly enough. Head just needed a little modification (drilled out the center hole that way it’ll fit in the speed feed 400/450). Just have to be careful and drill straight in.
I would like to thank you for doing what you did for Al Bladez! That was wonderful+you are wonderful! That makes me so happy to know that there's people out there, like you May God bless you all
Mine is a bump head 20ft hyper tough but feed is so easy when line done just turn head opposite to line up holes then put 20ft of .95 line thru then twist to feed on head ..It easy for me to use ..
the advantage of the speedfeed is that when the line gets low, it will not fling out. That is because rather than putting in 2 pieces, one on each side into a grabber which loses the line when it gets low, the line goes across as one piece so the opposite sides keep in intact even with centrifugal force. That is why I like them. You do not need to cut 2 pieces and you do not loose it when it gets to the end or even well before like so many that go into a grabber.
Hope you can help. I contacted Rotary Corp. on the suggested trimmer head for a Stihl Electric FSA90, their suggestion was the 9366. Is this different than the 13377 or 13375. I requested more info from Rotary but no response. Excellent video.
Definitely go with a 13375, there is a green adaptor in the package that will make it go right on your trimmer. I don’t think the 9366 would work at all
Harry, on your Stihl FixCut 31.2 head it you ran the string through the elongated holes of the head. That doesn't appear correct. Shouldn't it be routed through the round holes so the string lays in the guide?
I use a replica version of the Fixcut head and I use it as you suggested Glen. So using two separate pieces of string I get the four protruding ends to work on the grass. Speedy work.. lightweight for the engine as well ;)
Thanks for this informative video, but i have a question about the line Stihl recommends to put the line before use in the water and let overnight it there,is that every time or just the first one’s and can it be stay on the head or we take of the head( look me all plastic so no problems)
Hey, I think STIHL only recommends that for used line. And I would suggest taking the line off the head before soaking it in water. We did call STIHL to ask them about this, and made a video out of it. Check it out on our channel.
I am really enjoying my Speed-Feed 400 head on my STIHL FS90R. However my instructions says to Load 20 feet of line. Using my arms as my guide I grab 4 arm lengths (5'11") of .095, and it loads easily and feeds properly! I really prefer .105 size and it does say only 10 feet.
Can’t beat the Husqvarna 525 L straight shaft with their heavy duty rapid replace universal bump feed. Super easy to load 20’ of tough .95 line. Couldn’t be easier. It makes weed trimming chores easy. Light weight and powerful with easy start up and good fuel economy. Ergonomic feel and reliability with reasonable noise levels.
I do a LOT of trimming on mountain bike trails. The rocks and occasional thick branch causes me to go thru a lot of trimmer line and recently destroyed my Shakespeare Max Load PRO Bump Head. What would you recommend?
Hate my Stihl head or the universal, when I restring, the string always overlaps some where on the spool and gets stuck, it’s a real pain , that’s why I went to the 8” single strings, way more convenient
Thanks for sharing mike. We've heard about a few people making that switch now. At the end of the day, the best line/head is the one that suits your work style and conditions the best.
In my European country, they sell Stihl trimmers with tap heads (autocut) which are trash compared to auto-feed heads (supercut). Everyone here uses only a supercut head. It bothers me that you Americans cannot pronounce Stihl right, it is German (st is pronounced like scht) so you pronounce it like schtil not steal. Great video, condensed information simple explanations, eth was covered.
I got a supercut because I thought it would be better than bumping all the time. For the last 5 or more years I’ve always having problems with it not feeding and have to regularly take it apart and manually feed out some more line. I’ve given up on this head and now I’m going to get one of the easyloaders instead. Do you have any explanation why my supercut head always stops working, I am using the correct Stihl .095 line.
Is there an option youd suggest for an old fs 44 trimmer? Its an old family heirloom that id like to keep running but would like to modernize as well. Head is wore out/beat up and I see some eBay options etc. Would a newer head work on an old trimmer? Thanks for any help.
@@mainstreetmower ok, thanks . I may get the Echo speedfeed 400 trimmer head. My Honda is brand new, i will see how i make out re-spooling the Honda head.
The fix cut trimmer head using a .155 heavy line for thick brush cutting is a bit troublesome to load BUT it cuts thick bruch well and last a while. My problem is to get the line to bend evenly while you thread the line through the holes. How can you get the correct bend on the line? When I get it close to the correct bend, the bend will protrude out a bit and shorten the cutting line from both sides.....Anyone with some suggestions?
😲 Dang yo you been using that "head" for years lol quite a player! 😝 Great video bro I like the stihl fixed head and I 4 string that sucker! Also your sapose to use the Lil rod in that head hole not the Lil screw driver. I do rock the 240 and 131r and there is a better way to string that fixed metal head I rock without a gaurd you just got to use some cents when you do it without gaurd ido 9. 5 inches of length and it get the job done.
In South Africa bump heads are for home users fixed are for professionals. I am struggling to get use to the fix line that came with my new pro machine. might go back to bump head. fix is a waste of string and they get worn down almost as fast.

Love the 20-2 supercut. I just got 1 for my FS 230. Works perfectly well... no time wasting... but it's $75 fjd (abit exp here)
Denis, we're glad that you're enjoying your new Brush Cutter. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Main Street Mower Community.
Saw you support Al Bladez channel. Awesome mower. 👍🎉
Excellent video!
Thnx for making it.
Aloha🌴🌴🌴
Supercut
We're glad you liked it. Thanks for watching 🙂
Great trimmer line video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. We're glad you liked it.
Very informative and well made video.
Thank you. I Appreciate you watching. 🙂
I lost my bump spring. FS56 with the Autocut 26-2.
Trying to find a replacement spring
You probably got a defective weed Wacker. I have one and been using mine for a couple of years with no issues. Hope you get it replaced soon and give it another try. The thing works well for me.
They all work pretty well to me!
Auto feed you have to have the exact string line size and design
I have a problem on black& decker
I'm from Australia. My stihl came with the supercut when I bought it.
Thanks for that, once, when a Stihl engineer from Germany was visiting us, he was surprised that our trimmers did not have super cuts on them, that was the first time I realized they may ship machines with different accessories in different countries.
Thanks for looking out for Al Bladez🎉🎉🎉🎉
Absolutely.

Thanks for advice on the supercut👌
Any time!
Hi I'm a new subscriber here 👍Al Bladez sent me here
I love to see that supercut head in action
Us too! Do you own one? if yes, how long have you used them for?
Turns out the 2620t (25-26cc) pushes the .155 line just perfectly. Surprisingly enough. Head just needed a little modification (drilled out the center hole that way it’ll fit in the speed feed 400/450). Just have to be careful and drill straight in.
Wow. that's great to know. Will definitely check it out.
I'd be willing to try that pre fixed head if that offer is still available. I'm done with winding lines and getting stuck in the head .
I love my auto speed feed trimmer head it's the best trimmer head I used
Awesome. What makes the speed feed the best for you? We would love to know.
Need to get an alternate head for the Enhulk 58V line trimmer.
I would like to thank you for doing what you did for Al Bladez! That was wonderful+you are wonderful! That makes me so happy to know that there's people out there, like you May God bless you all
@5:38 broski bought an entire roll of aftermarket jus to show it for .5 seconds...thumbs up after that
Mine is a bump head 20ft hyper tough but feed is so easy when line done just turn head opposite to line up holes then put 20ft of .95 line thru then twist to feed on head ..It easy for me to use ..
Exactly what I was looking for! SuperCut it is!
Thank you!
the advantage of the speedfeed is that when the line gets low, it will not fling out.
That's great. Thank you for sharing this info. Should be very helpful for anyone trying to understand and learn more about the speedfeed heads.
Thank you thank you excellent video for a those different heads. I like the last one.super cut auto feed.
Thanks again
Thanks for watching! Me too
Very well done. I learned a great deal. Thank you for this presentation.
Thanks for watching!
Speedy work.. lightweight for the engine as well ;)
Thanks for this informative video, but i have a question about the line
Stihl recommends to put the line before use in the water and let overnight it there,is that every time or just the first one’s and can it be stay on the head or we take of the head( look me all plastic so no problems)
Hey, I think STIHL only recommends that for used line. And I would suggest taking the line off the head before soaking it in water. We did call STIHL to ask them about this, and made a video out of it. Check it out on our channel.
I want a trimmer head that is auto feed, but you can quickly feed it new line by ratcheting it. I hate winding line on the autofeed head.
Great video with very good information.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Good information, from Trinidad
Thank you Beann.
crazy question: could I use the SuperCut 20.2 trimmer head on a dewalt brushless trimmer?
I love all 3 super cut 26-2 and the 25-2 depends on the time of year 😁 nice video
Thank you Harry. We're glad you liked the video.
The documentation for the Official Echo and Shindaiwa Speedfeed heads say 20' of .095 is the capacity.
That's great info. Thank you fir sharing Doc.
do you have a video for guessing about on a John Deere tractor d130 with a Briggs & Stratton TW
Unfortunately we dont
Can’t beat the Husqvarna 525 L straight shaft with their heavy duty rapid replace universal bump feed.
Super easy to load 20’ of tough .95 line.
Couldn’t be easier. It makes weed trimming chores easy.
Light weight and powerful with easy start up and good fuel economy.
Ergonomic feel and reliability with reasonable noise levels.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing. I will check it out.
thank you lads for your advice love your videos
Thanks for watching man. Really appreciate it.
Sold on the supercut!
Great choice.
I might have to try the supercut
Great choice. When you do, Do not forget to tell us how you liked it.
I do a LOT of trimming on mountain bike trails. The rocks and occasional thick branch causes me to go thru a lot of trimmer line and recently destroyed my Shakespeare Max Load PRO Bump Head. What would you recommend?
He likes & uses the supercut head.
Thanks for posting great video 👍
Thank you Captain. We're glad you liked it.
He's trying so hard to hate on that speed head LOL
I like the SpeedFeed head, it’s one of the best things Echo/Shindaiwa have done
Do y’all have a video on the heads for the bigger trimmers or just the smaller and curved shaft ones
Yes we do Rob. Here's the link for Best Heads for Curved Shaft Trimmers: ruclips.net/video/7xKXBKZ-qB0/видео.html
VERY informative loved
Thank you Tony
In my European country, they sell Stihl trimmers with tap heads (autocut) which are trash compared to auto-feed heads (supercut). Everyone here uses only a supercut head. It bothers me that you Americans cannot pronounce Stihl right, it is German (st is pronounced like scht) so you pronounce it like schtil not steal. Great video, condensed information simple explanations, eth was covered.
Thank you for your feedback, I am a proponent of pronouncing words as they are natively, I will make this correction in the future.
Ain’t gotta be able to pronounce it, to use it……..
No one cares how you think it should be pronounced
What size line are you using for the high capacity speed feed 475?
.095”
Is there an option youd suggest for an old fs 44 trimmer? Its an old family heirloom that id like to keep running but would like to modernize as well. Head is wore out/beat up and I see some eBay options etc. Would a newer head work on an old trimmer? Thanks for any help.
THANK YOU FOR THE USEFUL VID
Ofcourse, glad this helped :)
thank you for clearing some question I had.
Thanks for watching!
BY USING 2.0 DIA STRIP HOW MUCH DIAMETER OF GRASS CUTTING?
Great educational video. Do you know if the Stihl Super cut 20-2 trimmer head would fit on a Honda HHT25 S grass trimmer ?
Unfortunately it will not
@@mainstreetmower ok, thanks . I may get the Echo speedfeed 400 trimmer head. My Honda is brand new, i will see how i make out re-spooling the Honda head.
The fix cut trimmer head using a
.155 heavy line for thick brush cutting is a bit troublesome to load BUT it cuts thick bruch well and last a while.
Thanks for the feedback!
In South Africa bump heads are for home users fixed are for professionals. I am struggling to get use to the fix line that came with my new pro machine. might go back to bump head. fix is a waste of string and they get worn down almost as fast.
Thank you for sharing. It's very interesting to find out what people think about these products all the way up in South Africa. We would love to know which one out of these is your most favorite head to go for?
Someone tossed a Remington rm2560 brought it home it fired right up it’s missing the trimmer line head any suggestions on replacement?
