That's cool 30+ is still pretty quick, no matter what speed the E-Revo is always fun. I think I've been bitten by the speed bug or something cause I wanna keep making it faster haha.
I’m gonna trade a few rock crawlers and a nitro and buy a either a 16 scale revo brushed then convert it to brushless or I might just buy the vxl but if I only run 2s would I not have diff issues like some people are having on 3s?
I just put a 3670 in my merv but im only running 4s (2x 2200mah 120c coddar brand batteries in series). Its just a cheap 2850kv 3670 motor and 120amp esc. Still tinkering with gearing though and have no way to speed test it atm. Had to use ace hardware #93 springs in the shocks. Its stupidly heavy lol. Center driveshafts are steel too just because they are on sale on amazon and i want to tow my daughter in a wagon lol. With lower gearing of course. The weight of the truck should help me with traction for towing stuff too.
@@alexcrowder1673 Awesome man, I've been thinking about doing something like that with my E-Revo 2.0 but not my little merv haha. Let me know how it goes 👍👍
If you do the math, it should do about 51 mph on paper. This fails to account for mechanical drag, and aerodynamics. It also doesn't account for the weight of the car. On paper the NIMH should be faster than a 3s lipo, because of the voltage difference. In the real world this is obviously not the case.
Can you please link the 3S lipo you used in the video? Currently using one NiMh 1200 Mah, but trying to get a 3S lipo to hit 45 mph. Still new to the rc space 😅
It will kill the esc if you try to gear it higher while on 3 s. There is a 31 tooth pinion available. It might break 50, but it will probably only do it a couple of times before it lets the magic smoke out.
I tried with the 6900kv on 4s and it damaged the motor. I have a 3200kv in it now and I'm running it on 6s but the front tires don't want to stay on the ground.
Thanks glad you liked it 👍 I thought it would've been a little faster on 2s as well. You can run 2s and 3s in parallel no problem, 2s in series will overheat the esc and motor real quick but it is possible I've done it a few times.
@@aaronzaffiro 3s lipo is a little faster than 2 nimh. It will need to be geared up a little in order to reach 50mph, a 31t pinion on 3s lipo should do it.
@@BashNcrash I’m thinking about just getting an extra NIMH battery because when I don’t wanna run 50 mph I have an extra battery then when I do I’ll be able to. the double NIMH gets pretty close to 50 right?
@@BashNcrash I already went to 23 on the pinion and I think my gears weren't lined up quite right because I tore up my spur gear. I'm gonna bring the spur up to 55 and buy a spare, just in case. It'll take some top speed off, but hopefully it won't eat up the spur gear. My motor gets so hot on 4S even at 23/50, so hopefully it won't overheat quite so bad on 23/55. That way too if I decide to to do 3S runs maybe it won't overheat at all.
@@reubenkriegel7639 The gear mesh might've not been tight enough, the only way I've stripped a spur and pinion so far is forgetting to put the spur gear cover back on and a rock got in. I'd be interested to know how it does with 23/55 on 4S, I've pretty much only ran it on 4S with high gearing so it always overheated after one speed pass.
@@BashNcrash I'll let you know. I'm planning on getting some telemetry sensors sometime, too. I might look at a really mall pinion to make 4S efficient enough to just always run that way.
The high speed is slower than the stock 28t because its only 23t. Its to keep temps down with higher voltage batteries but the 28t that comes in it is actually faster
The e revo vxl seems to get its power more from rpms than torque. That's the benefit of having a smaller brushless motor in it with a high kv. The downside is that it doesn't have the brute force for high gearing. It's kinda the same idea as running 1407 brushless motors on 4 or 5 inch props with a racing drone, they are very fast ONLY if you keep it light and keep the strain on the motors low with 2 blade props. If you overgear them with 4 blades, itll actually be slower because the motors cant handle the torque needed for big heavy props. Well the same idea applies to the e-revo vxl. Its super fast the way its designed to be used, but if you start treating it like it has a big motor and overgearing it, you'll actually make it slower. Big heavy motors are the opposite. You kinda have to overgear them in order to get the same kind of rpms at the tires that you'd get from the vxl. Plus more weight means lots of tinkering with the shocks and more momentum, meaning crashes will have more of an impact at the same speed, greatly increasing your chance of breaking parts. Anyways thats the basics of it all. Once you really get into speed runs theres a lot of tuning involved, making sure the esc is providing full power to the motor and not cutting off at 94% throttle etc. Capacitor packs also help when you are pushing your motor and esc really hard with overgearing. They help fill the gaps in voltage fluctuation which can sometimes help you squeeze out a few mph, but at the very least itll extend the life of the esc in a high strain application.

Sure is I've been having a blast with it, surprisingly I haven't had any problems with the diffs yet.
a few shims on the gear side or a center diff should do the trick! i've had mine for the past 2 years without any issues simply by adding shims.

All I changed was the batteries when testing the speed. NiMH is a battery type.
