  • MLB is loaded with rookies this year. Some are better than others. Paul Skenes is the most popular and probably the best. But San Diego Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill is great too. I feel that he has superstar potential and in this video I explain how.

    Victor Rodriguez our new hitting coach is the reason for the uptick in offensive production. Just look at Jurickson Profar. He was a mid 200’s hitter. The broadcasters and players all rave about Victor. We’re basically the same offense we had last year…. Minus Soto. Yet we’re putting up the numbers we have (until last nights misery). I looked at this season as a kind of “rebuild” or cost cutter at the start. But these guys are hanging tough. #ForTheFaithful #KeepTheFaith #JacksonBarrell

      Profar’s production jump was due to Fernando Tatis Sr changing his load from a toe tap to a leg kick, couple with his elite plate discipline, the new leg kick helped him with him timing, getting to balls quicker and pull them harder

    Jackson credits playing alongside Profar (who after that decade of being cast as a top prospect finally has his come out party season) and Tatis Jr (another converted SS who turned into a platinum glove RF’er) as a big reason why he’s enjoyed the early success.
    He also acknowledges that baseball is very hard but he tries to also remember that it’s a game…meant to be fun to play when it’s all said and done.
    One last thing…let’s also give credit to Mike Schildt…the dude knows how to get the most out of his young players…because he excels at player development. He’s going to also try to replicate that winning baseball he brought from the cardinals (where he never had a losing season.)

    Everyone thought the Padres were crazy for getting all the shortstops. Merrill, Tatis, Kim, Cronenworth, Bogaerts. Hell, even Manny was a shortstop before he decided he'll just be one of the best third baseman instead. They all work so well together and its been a wild ride.

    The flyball rate change is a symptom of a change in his swing, not the reason for his new success. If you watch his ABs from anywhere before June he had this little tap he did with his front foot before his leg kick. It was some kind of timing tic he had that is no longer present. Now he just does the leg kick. I dont know why its important really, but former players are saying it is. Lol.

    • @blueskittles5449
      @blueskittles5449  3 месяца назад +1

      Maybe the tap he did before his load just threw off his timing slightly and caused the stride to be bad for power. Thanks for commenting this I appreciate the analysis

Ive seen Yount play one time at the old bleacher stadium ( you can see rows after rows of fans looking down at feet planks) Meril reminds me of Yount but different positions. But yeah, Meril is going to be special indeed or Ill be a blind fool comparing to a HOF I once saw at the game.

    Simple fact is, he plays for the Padres. That’s all you need to know. West coast players, if they are not top tier players, are never covered because teams and fans in the east don’t watch the games.

    • @danbradley3294

      Agreed. But if Merrill keeps playing at this level it won't even be close. For one, he plays everyday as opposed to skenes who effects roughly 7 innings a week. I'm a padre fan and watching this kid grow before our eyes has been a treat. Skenes will benefit from that good old east coast bias though unfortunately.
