We've stopped eating at Wendy's TOTALLY and we we were pretty regular. Burger King & McDonalds have fallen so badly they are no longer on our list of places to eat. Mostly we eat at home.... it's WAY cheaper. To me it should be illegal...like robbery with without a gun. So, if they can call it Dynamic Pricing or Surge pricing: it still should be illegal. AND they changed the signs so they can surreptitiously change the prices ... hoping you won't notice. Not to worry... they just have won't have our business anymore. The statistic has different variables for sure. I think when people make more money because they’re working more hours or 2 jobs will still eat a lot of fast food. A person that’s making more money but not working a ton of hours will go for higher quality food restaurants.

The way I looked at Sunny’s point of having more money means eating more fast food, is the idea that if you have more money than you are a little more frivolous with your spending versus somebody who is on a tight budget more often. I definitely think it’s more common that if somebody makes a lot more money, they will eat out more because of convenience. It’s a lot easier to go to Starbucks for coffee in the morning, get lunch near your office, pick up dinner on the way home, etc when you aren’t too worried about money.
It's absolutely this point. Fast food is more expensive than preparing your own food, but if you're a higher earner with more disposable income then of course that's why. She equated higher earning potential with 'working harder' which is an insult to anyone who works flat out all week only to earn a fraction of what someone else does because of any variety of socioeconomic factors or social immobility. During the pandemic, independent businesses were clearly impacted but large chains and stores made record-breaking profits and the whole home-delivery market has grown exponentially. When I was a single working mom of two boys. I had very little time to cook. I had to wake up at 3:30am to get my kids up n ready for school so I can make it to work for 6. And by the time I got off got my kids and got home, if the meal wasn’t 30 mins or less it was fast food because we all needed to be in bed by 9. I had a great paying job back then so I had money to go that. I just didn’t have the time to spare to cook.* Making more money doesn’t necessarily mean “High earner.”

I did something about the high cost of food. I grow my own in a very limited space. I did something about the cost of cars, car maintenance, registration, repair, insurance and gas. I bought an e-bike with an extra battery and a solar charger for those batteries. This girl is not getting gouged.
People don’t have options to not go to the grocery store to bring prices down. We have to buy groceries. You can choose not go to Whole Foods, but if all the prices rise across grocery stores, which they have, we can’t make consumer choices. We have to eat.

A friend of mine used to cook a whole bunch of meals ahead of time for herself and put them in the freezer. She rarely ate out. She passed away at 94 in 2021. She volunteered 3 days a week up until Covid.

Wendy's has great specials. Just yesterday, I had a Dave's double hamburger, junior fry and water for $4.34. The food was cheaper than the grocery store and it was delicious.
This is crazy! I remember when i could buy nuggets for 99 cents, now its 2 bucks! I stop going out for happy hour out now because its cheaper to buy my own liquor and entertain at home. Ive been watching videos and learning to make my own custom drinks and its fun!
I really don't see how this is going to help them because a lot of the Wendy's locations in my area don't get a lot of business nowadays. And it's not just Wendy's, but also Mc McDonald's and Burger King. Yeah, they get a "bit" of an up tick of customers during lunch and dinner hours but those numbers aren't anywhere what they used to be back in the 80's and 90's when all 3 were the top fast food places. Again, only speaking about what I see with my own eyes when I drive past these places in the city where I currently live. Meanwhile, places like Chick-Fil-A and Raising Canes have customers wrapped around their buildings and they have no problems serving all those customers because they have enough employees to pull it off. And that's another big issue that Wendy's, McDonald's and Burger King are currently dealing with, since Covid they can't hire enough ppl to work in their restaurants. They are all struggling big time with not having enough employees. But the Chick-Fil-A's and Raising Canes in my area always have more than enough employees to keep them going.

No it's not because it is 5 bucks for a small portion size "meal" and Wendy's throws in cheap/generic items like a whopping "4" nuggets which are subpar to McDonalds. Taco Bell on the otherhand has had boxes for 5 or 6 with premium items and a drink that give a lot more food (protein, calories, etc) than a Biggie Bag. McDonalds has a daily 20 piece nugget coupon (with the app) that gives you a lot more protein for 5 bucks and their nuggets are a LOT better than Wendy's. McDonalds also always has 2 for 3.50 McDoubles near me (1.75 a sandwich). Wendy's app is also one of the weaker ones with good deals, only when it has buy 1 get 1 for a dollar on their premium sandwiches is it worth considering to me. People ordering at any of these places without using the app are getting ripped though and I see it all the time. To each their own.

I barely eat at fast food places (Wendy's isn't one of them)and if I do. I go for Chick Filet, Panda Express, Popeyes these are a go to for me. I'm always making my lunch and breakfast at home. Eating out everyday is too expensive even getting coffee and I make my morning drinks at home as well. And I find it so true when people have more of a cash flow (disposable income) they will splurge more on eating out and entertainment. And talking about grocery stores. I shop at lidls and trader Joe's they are budget friendly and their prices are pretty reasonable.

If Wendy wants to implement this, they need to know that drivers make more money during surge hours. In Australia they are putting a law on price gouging. The 2 major supermarkets that are price gouging & pretending that a product is half price when it’s actually the price. So the government can intervene.
As my income went up I started cooking more at home. I don't go out to eat because the prices are insane while the quality and portions have gotten smaller. I noticed that one restaurant I used to love called Flowerchild uses smaller and flatter bowls which makes the portion 1/3 smaller. And LYFT tripled their rates. I work hybrid and go into the office one week out of the month. Three weeks ago the rate that was normally $18-20 dollars was $65 one day and $43-52 the next. I messaged my boss and told her I couldn't afford that so I'd be working from home.
For us it’s not about how much money we have (which isn’t a lot), it’s that we don’t have enough time to cook. Single parent, two kids, always in the car and on the move. I’m going broke trying to live. It’s insane how expensive EVERYTHING is these days. Literally EVERYTHING has increased.
Grocery prices have gone up way more than 25% here in Florida. Publix is outrageous. I shop at Aldi’s and Trader Joe’s. Their prices have even gone up but not as much as the larger grocery stores. Rich people here in Florida Uber food from more expensive Restaurants, not from McDonald’s or Wendy’s type fast food places. College age people get their food by Uber or Door Dash from fast food places. This is what I have observed. We cook at home. Tonight is spaghetti and meatballs.
As an Uber driver I can say they pay more if it’s during rush hour (because the ride will take longer due to traffic) and if it’s raining drivers don’t want to risk it. So they charge the customers more and give that to the drivers. We are 1099 employees and get to choose if we want to drive in the rain or not.
I didn’t notice an increase in food because they did it so subtly until I saw a receipt from 2 years ago what cost me 50 dollars to feed me for a week is now about 120
The price increases in the supermarkets are starting with the manufacturers. Its the farmers and consumers that are being affected. The middlemen are lining their pockets at our expense.
As a bar and restaurant order, the orders we are putting in to our distributors are 3× higher than 3-4 years ago. We have to charge more,just to cover our costs... 🤷

Grocery stores don’t produce their own groceries, they buy from vendors. Vendors costs have risen ten fold. Trucking costs have risen ten fold. So where is the grocery store making all these record profits? Gross revenue vs. gross profit are two entirely different things.

Wendy's has great specials. Just yesterday, I had a Dave's double hamburger, junior fry and water for $4.34. The food was cheaper than the grocery store and it was delicious.

I really don't see how this is going to help them because a lot of the Wendy's locations in my area don't get a lot of business nowadays. And it's not just Wendy's, but also Mc McDonald's and Burger King. Yeah, they get a "bit" of an up tick of customers during lunch and dinner hours but those numbers aren't anywhere what they used to be back in the 80's and 90's when all 3 were the top fast food places. Again, only speaking about what I see with my own eyes when I drive past these places in the city where I currently live. Meanwhile, places like Chick-Fil-A and Raising Canes have customers wrapped around their buildings and they have no problems serving all those customers because they have enough employees to pull it off. And that's another big issue that Wendy's, McDonald's and Burger King are currently dealing with, since Covid they can't hire enough ppl to work in their restaurants. They are all struggling big time with not having enough employees. But the Chick-Fil-A's and Raising Canes in my area always have more than enough employees to keep them going.

No it's not because it is 5 bucks for a small portion size "meal" and Wendy's throws in cheap/generic items like a whopping "4" nuggets which are subpar to McDonalds. Taco Bell on the otherhand has had boxes for 5 or 6 with premium items and a drink that give a lot more food (protein, calories, etc) than a Biggie Bag. McDonalds has a daily 20 piece nugget coupon (with the app) that gives you a lot more protein for 5 bucks and their nuggets are a LOT better than Wendy's. McDonalds also always has 2 for 3.50 McDoubles near me (1.75 a sandwich). Wendy's app is also one of the weaker ones with good deals, only when it has buy 1 get 1 for a dollar on their premium sandwiches is it worth considering to me. People ordering at any of these places without using the app are getting ripped though and I see it all the time. To each their own.

I barely eat at fast food places (Wendy's isn't one of them)and if I do.
I go for Chick Filet, Panda Express, Popeyes these are a go to for me. I'm always making my lunch and breakfast at home. Eating out everyday is too expensive even getting coffee and I make my morning drinks at home as well.
And I find it so true when people have more of a cash flow (disposable income) they will splurge more on eating out and entertainment. And talking about grocery stores. I shop at lidls and trader Joe's they are budget friendly and their prices are pretty reasonable.

Unfortunately, these ladies do not understand the nature of rideshare, or what causes the surge pricing.
If Wendy wants to implement this, they need to know that drivers make more money during surge hours. Wendy’s never planned on paying their employees more during these hours, they simply are simply price gouging low income people to line their pockets with more money.

Joy’s comparison to “Early Bird Specials” is spot on. 1:41 That’s always been a form of surge pricing from another angle. & Quite frankly, bars have also been doing this “surge pricing” for over 100 years. They have happy hour prices (at 5pm & 6pm) when majority of people don’t normally go out to a bar or night club. So their “regular” evening prices. Are in affect, “surge prices” (if somehow they make a profit during happy hour pricing)
In Australia they are putting a law on price gouging. The 2 major supermarkets that are price gouging & pretending that a product is half price when it’s actually the price. So the government can intervene.

As my income went up I started cooking more at home. I don't go out to eat because the prices are insane while the quality and portions have gotten smaller. I noticed that one restaurant I used to love called Flowerchild uses smaller and flatter bowls which makes the portion 1/3 smaller. And LYFT tripled their rates. I work hybrid and go into the office one week out of the month. Three weeks ago the rate that was normally $18-20 dollars was $65 one day and $43-52 the next. I messaged my boss and told her I couldn't afford that so I'd be working from home.
Simple solution to price gouging......STOP BUYING THE PRODUCTS. There is always an alternative or a different option.

Uber it's different. During certain weather conditions most drivers are off the road or even at night. Drivers are not there.
Grocery prices have gone up way more than 25% here in Florida. Publix is outrageous. I shop at Aldi’s and Trader Joe’s. Their prices have even gone up but not as much as the larger grocery stores. Rich people here in Florida Uber food from more expensive Restaurants, not from McDonald’s or Wendy’s type fast food places. College age people get their food by Uber or Door Dash from fast food places. This is what I have observed. We cook at home. Tonight is spaghetti and meatballs.

As an Uber driver I can say they pay more if it’s during rush hour (because the ride will take longer due to traffic) and if it’s raining drivers don’t want to risk it. So they charge the customers more and give that to the drivers. We are 1099 employees and get to choose if we want to drive in the rain or not.

I’m actually a fan of dynamic pricing the problem is some industries are limited to the amount of people they can serve at a certain time so dynamic pricing goal to have consistent flow of service throughout the day. dynamic pricing is not meant to punish people that can’t come at a certain time, it’s meant to reward people for helping the business out and getting your service at a less convenient time
