Black Thought has incredible breathing technique, this whole song is like a tongue twister with no pauses... In the recording studio is one thing, but I dare anyone to try to hit half the marks that he did live
The craziest part is that on the record, the 2nd and 3rd verses are performed by Dice Raw and Malik B, respectively. This live tempo is wayyyy faster than the record, and Thought destroys those verses even better than the cats that wrote them. He’s an alien.
thank u black!!! you have given me faith again, hip hop lives, passed the era of pac and big. brother i finally see hip hop in a whole different light. i never thought anyone would be able to lift the game to another level, now i believe, black i pledge to emerse myself again, and go deeper in my own state ao mind. peace Q.
I saw the Roots live in '06. One of the best shows I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). I llove the older records as well as the newer ones. These guys have been around a long time because they've gone in new directions without losing their way.
@oldoipunk ONE I know. Guy Sebastian who wrote / sang "Who's That Girl" , Eve did the rap for the CD & live performance November last year, but Guy can rap her part for live performances, radio etc, awesome. These guys are fantastic - thanks for putting up.
I do my Tabata 4 minute cardio workout to this.... It is a most hectic 4 minutes!! This song is PERFECT (4:12) and it's energy is incredible!! The Roots is the s**t yaw!!!
The instrumental element adds an entirly new and pure demension to hip hop and rap..possibly adding to its credibility, also the energy in their performances screems greatness
I also saw the Roots live TWICE !, in San Diego (SoCo Music Festival)2006 and then in London England 2006,highlight was Questlove's drum solo's. Awesome !.
Now this is the REAL talent in the Hip-Hop genre. They actually write AND play their OWN MUSIC, and bust out with some heavy rhymes!! Are there any other Hip-Hop bands like these dudes? REAL musicians in addition to rappers?
you can look at it both ways. its just different aspects of music and arts collaborating with eachother. either way, its a great collaboration =) The Roots will always stay at the top of my list.
@90mv I used to think that rap didn't take any skill at all, until the studio I work at started producing hip-hop records. I have a completely different view. Not everyone can do what hip-hop artists do. People may not like the content, but there's a reason why not everyone is a hip-hop artist. It's not that easy.

Just when you think rap is deader than dead, along comes a group like this to breathe true life into the dying beast. The Roots are simply AWESOME!
Heard this live at the manchester academy. They absolutely destroyed it, best gig i've ever been to. Black Thought has to be the best MC around.
This is one badass tune. Playing it over and over again...die beste!

Wow! The best 2 TV house bands of the past 37 years on the same stage, same night, same show! The World's Most Dangerous Band and The Roots!!
I just discovered this band via The Jimmy Fallon show and MAN! What a trip!
I saw them in concert, there are no words to describe them, it was just sick off the hook. The audience was going crazy.

No doubt Charlie Kane. You see nobody ever disses him!
You can make the argument that Black Thought is the real G.O.A.T.
Now this is the REAL talent in the Hip-Hop genre. They actually write AND play their OWN MUSIC, and bust out with some heavy rhymes!!

You seem to think you know more about music than the millions of people who acknowledge that hip hop is an art form.
so talented, hiphop group that actually plays music, awesome!
Beast. I had never heard of the roots, but I intend to add them to my list of real artists, like Nas, and Kweli.
