steve musically it's not the best work of band but top 10 or even higher of this millenium in every genre.Listen classical suite in rap album. They outscored even Kanye West who taught from Roots for sure. This song is on the same level of greatness as Outkast's Liberation
Definitely. he has amazing lyricism, extensive vocabulary, always provides a flow that matches the instrumentation, can perform live without a hypeman, can freestyle continuously, gives impressive features for other artists, writes rhymes that can be both dark and gritty or personal, and has covered so many different subjects and issues in his verses. Its a crime he's not more well known internationally
FROSTY DA SNOWMAN Rap jazz.I don't like when someone calls dead genre.Beastie boys where music help to dance. In hip hop main dude or one of the main is dj.Rap and hip hop are different genres but yeah it's one of the best example of RAP
Who’s here in 2021 trying to see their way to a clear future without the noise of the world? Do you, set your boundaries, gather yourself and find your wings and soar. It is indeed a new day!
"Cash rules kings, queens, prince and princess Every night I'm crossing a line that ain't the finish Every thought is dark as a glass of fucking Guinness Too far gone to come back to my senses Now I'm on the edge of my bed making love to my meds Every moment's like a pistol to my head When I'm getting mine" The third verse takes me to a dark Dark DARK place. Lyrical genius.
Black Thought, what a constructive solider that embodies the righteousness and infinite depth that we still can cultivate within ourselves no matter what our circumstances. Big up to the greatest band The Roots, their efforts are always legendary. Bilal, singing heavenly hurricane, no one else has it like he does! Love love love love!!! Peace!
I know i'm asking or wishing for the impossible, but there needs to be more bands and artists like The Roots & Black Thought.... The Roots inspired me to buy a acoustic guitar, teach myself, and my son. Anybody here in The ATL know if and when The Roots are performing here?????
One thing that surprised me was how Black Thought sort of rewrote the lyrics to make a "clean" version. And to be honest, I like this version of the lyrics best. When he doesn't fall back on cursing, he's more thoughtful, more poetic. Gosh, these guys are amazing. If you can name one member who can't play their instrument with incredible tastefulness and skill... then you're wrong.
This album and track will forever be new for me, no matter how many times I revisit it. It'll always be a new experience. I bought this album on day 1 and it'll always be timeless along with "How I Got Over" 🎶
Ladies and gentlemen the roots in my eyes a bit underrated (at least in my country that is for sure cause the most people only know the seed 2.0 😂) wish to see you guys perform je day in holland I would come for sure!!!
Can't heap enough superlatives upon this band, but this cut was simply magic----with the interplay between Bilal and Captain Kirk channelling Prince and Hendrix while Questlovle's drumming would've made Max Roach and Elvin Jones raise an eyebrow or two in approval that more than secures him as an all-time great drummer, per Rolling Stone. This performance was so great that it made me appreciate the album version even more, which one doesn't usually think about on an album they they love and play completely through with no skipped tracks!
legendary. who else is out there that is even in the arena with the roots? even more importantly, who is taking this incredible groove and fusion forward? who's worthily following in the roots' footsteps? I ask you...
Mariateresa Costanzo Byrne this genre is Rap jazz and there aren't so many artists in this genre. There were Jungle brothers,Outkast. Now it's Kendrick Lamar(On every album except last but most memorable was Butterfly)
"We obviously need to tone it down a bit / Running round town spending time like it's counterfeit" = genius metaphor. Man, who are the 13 people who don't like this?
The Roots are so good I'm still surprised they ever became successful!! ...and Bilal has been music's best kept open secret for the last 12 years. MUSIC!!
Holy Shit! This by far Best Performance on any talk show. WOW. The Roots are the best and Black Thought is on a different level when it comes to straight emceeing....WOW.

Real.
Every single person absolutely killed that performance
undun is one of the best albums I've ever heard, and this performance solidifies that.
Wish the extended part was on the album love this song.
Hip hop needs to grow up, because this is real beast mode !
They crushed it and the applause from the crowd was so weak.
Thought is a beast

Undun and To Pimp A Butterfly are 2 of the most outstanding Hip-Hop albums of this past decade
How about Dave's albums and last Tribe's album?)
DAMN! THE BEST LIVE MC FOLLOWED UP BY ONE OF THE BEST LIVE BANDS FT. THE BEST MALE VOCALIST ALIVE!!!
This performance is such a coincidence that the two most underrated artists in the industry are killing side by side
Bilal's voice is so outstanding! Beautiful conversation with Capt. Kirk!
It's good to still see a real band in real times with real lyrics.
I know i'm asking or wishing for the impossible, but there needs to be more bands and artists like The Roots & Black Thought.... The Roots inspired me to buy a acoustic guitar, teach myself, and my son. Anybody here in The ATL know if and when The Roots are performing here?????

One of the sickest Hip-Hop performances by my favorite Hip-Hop group. Black Thought only gets better with age. True poet on the real.

I don't generally listen to this kind of music but The Roots are just incredibile. Fantastic band.
I mean, rhythm'n'blues, hip hop, but The Roots are one of a kind.

Yo The Roots, killed in this right here; and at the fourth of July Jam.
"Life is just a moment in time, then it passed by." ~ RIP Malik B.

not only are the roots 'real hip hop', they are 'real music'
yo the roots are dope.... sends shivers up my spin
Wow - that they lay it down like this on your average weeknight tv show is incredible. Making sure we all get the real thing is a true public service!
That's what it's all about that there was a jam session especially at the end Bilal and ole boy
