I love how the choreography is reinvented to take into consideration the space, working in tandem with the capabilities of cinematography. This is totally the way ballet for film/video should be done. I imagine the effort is enormous. This (and the waltz of the snowflakes) is the best dance-to-film/virtual dance I've seen come out of the pandemic by far. So excellent, thank you!
Wow! I loved the choreography, especially the duet, the traveling sequences down the piers or along the waterfront, and the movement juxtaposition between human and swan. While lacking the delicate, fine articulations of many staged swan lake ballets, this one's innovative adaptations to society and sites are delightful. The swans were surprisingly exquisite in sneakers and tutus and I felt like the pandemic masks actually added to the character. The lighting and scenery is on pointe! Thank you for creating this, Post:ballet 💯
I used to take open classes from Charmaine and didn't even realize she was in this until I read the credits. Beautiful work! Especially loved four little swans rendition and the traveling shot during the pas de deux.
Bravissimo!!!!! I have enjoyed this version of the Swan Lake with all my heart. Before I was it, I thought the Swan lake was impossible without the pointe shoes, but now I clearly see that sneakers can be even better) I also love how you used male dancers to dance swans, because it gave a new edge to the part. Finally, San Francisco might as well be the best setting for the Swan Lake (change my mind ;))
This is so awesome! Your outside ballet stagings are one of the most enjoyable and beautiful things I've seen since the theatres closed here in March 2020. I miss live theatre a lot, but this is, as some other commentator put it, like a breath of fresh air. Thank you all for creating beauty in this unpleasant times... greetings from Germany
This was charming, and I'm probably the last person in the known universe to say "Yay, let's monkey with iconic ballet choreography!" I actually felt a sense of liberation with the pas de quatre since that's such a gods-awful endurance allegro and the dancers are kind off stuck in formation for the whole 2 minutes. My only criticism would be the film editing. In places like the coda, the perspective switches so often and so quickly you lose the sense of how the space is being used, and it's being used quite well. Are you thinking of staging any of the rest of it?
Hi @minissa2009, thank you for your positive words and constructive feedback! We would love to make a sequel someday- stay tuned for more Post:ballet collaborations with Benjamin Tarquin and the beautiful Bay Area in the months and years ahead! ^_^
why did they like every comment except the two, still very positive, ones with constructive criticism 🤥 the edits could use some work to help it visually flows better and there is the question of why sneakers and staging it on sand of all surfaces, notoriously hard to even walk evenly on? i can't imagine pointe is done well in sneakers and sand... doing the dancers a disservice tbh
Hi there! Thank you for your feedback, and sorry we were slow to respond to folks' questions. Of course we welcome all feedback and constructive criticism! We wore sneakers so the dancers could perform on concrete as well as sand... definitely some difficult terrains for the dancers to deal with, but they did beautifully and made it work!

Looks like a big joke. Like classical swans very trying to be modern swans. And Peter Tchaikovsky destroying all this with his talent because this kind of swan vision for every other music ( maybe for Beyonce - Put a Ring on It).
Sooooo beautiful 🦢💗 I'm in tears at the end imagining those swans flying over the bridge, absolutely gorgeous 😍
i very much appreciate this and it should have more views

We didn't premiere this on April Fools' Day for no reason! =D And, a remake of Swan Lake to Beyonce sounds awesome!
