I have to admit, my ps3 and Gran Turismo 5 was so cool the way online play was, if you wanted an expensive car, but were low on funds? All I had to do was send a message to one of my friends online, and they'd send me a 100000000$ car in my garage. nowadays and Gran Turismo 7 online? Bla!! I wish the ps5 was the ps3 in structure, features, and online!!
2004-2010 XBL was peak online gaming. Multiplayer was such a social experience compared to now. Discord didn’t exist and there was no party chat. You wanted to talk with your friend? You’re gonna have everyone else in the lobby with ya. GAAS and player retention nonsense didn’t exist. Gears, halo, cod4/waw, and gta4 were some of the most memorable online experiences that no modern day title has come close to replicating.
The jump from A/V cables to HDMI was pure mindblowing the difference was night and day, the only other time in regards to gaming that i had my mind blown was the PSVR.
Yep. It was a game changer and this as someone born in 89, was on top of the jump we got going from Playstation and Sega Saturn(had an old atari 2600 before either), to the Playstation 2 and Original Xbox. Can still remember middle school and everyone talking about Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice city came out like a year or so after. Stuff didn't get announced five or six years ahead of time back then. In high school I had a friend who's Xbox had the mini screen attachment you could buy so he would set it up in the lunch room and we would play 4 player Halo 2 matches.
Gears of war 1, cod 4, and halo 3 were the games that made me realise the jump from the ps2/Xbox/GameCube era. It was little things like the field of view and water graphics in halo 3, or unloading shotgun shells into another player on cod 4 and seeing their blood lace the walls that amazed me lol.

Oh, I am so glad you posted this. Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox 360 is a wonderful game! I actually played it there. I am still very impressed with that version of the game. Also, Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox 360 is a lot of fun!
My first ever console experience was when I was in kindergarten in 2011 or 12 on the 360. I played lots of games like LEGO Batman, family game night and a few years later plants vs zombies garden warfare had many good memories with this console.
PS2 and 360 were some of the best times i ever had gaming, and i began with the NES generation. It just seemed like peak gaming. A lot of pioneers like GTA 3 etc, and then the online games. I played countless hours of EQOA, Socom, RE Outbreak and later on Left 4 Dead 1,2 and the Garden Warfare games. After that it seems like all of my friends and i grew apart. I find myself revisiting old games, even Left 4 Dead 2 in VR, but it's a hollow feeling, it just reminds me of better times. The xbox live party was perma-disbanded long ago now😞
It gave me the biggest warm fuzzy feeling seeing people are still playing MW2 online. Cod multiplayer really peaked with MW2 and it makes sense people are keeping it alive still. I know I'll put my copy in my series X tonight and try and find a match.
Thank you for showcasing the 360 live era of gaming, great video. It was such an awesome experience back in the day jumping online with the newest game like COD4, Halo 3 or SR2 and just playing and meeting new people and adding complete randos as friends whom 70% of you will either never talk to again or play anything outside the game you guys met. I feel like this generations MP really has no soul and its a shame.
The last console generation, that I truly loved. Sure there's still some good stuff released today as well, but nowhere near as many fun titles, as during that era. Even AAA still had some originality left in them, back then. And the discs actually contained the entire games.
Exactly. Today if you pop in the disc, it installs about 35% of the game off the disc then the other 65% has to be downloaded... Or I've seen this too where it'll install up to 99% but in order to "complete installation" you have to connect to the internet...like wtf is the point of buying physical???
@@ChfHappySack Yeah, it has become like those last physical PC releases, which only contained a Steam installer on the disc. Totally pointless, as the discs will be useless in the future, when the servers is shutdown.
Agreed literally pop in and maybe wait 5-15 minutes (At max if it was a massive 1-2GB update) then your playing now everything has to be preloaded and with Wake 2 being digitial i feel like its probably going to the end of physical in the next 2-4 years.
I’m happy you gave Bad Company 2 a shoutout. The game is still very active with its player base especially on weekends. I also strongly encourage anyone who loved the game back in the day to jump back in. EA announced the closure of the servers later on this year in December which personally has me devastated. One of my all time favorite games from my high school days.
On which platform? I tried playing BC2 on PC about a month ago but the server list wouldn't even load. But your comment is making me want to try again. Bad Company 2 was the best BF game ever made! Modern BF games suck! All you do is run around and die cause there's no cover and the maps are too big! BC2 had the *perfect* map size so there was more chances to score some kills. And don't even get me started on how good Rush is...
@@Psythik I own the game on both Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3. I’d say the Ps3 is a little more active from what I’ve seen recently but both are still active on a daily basis for either core or hardcore rush modes. Regardless you can usually find full lobbies in the evenings on week days & all day on weekends. Definitely recommend jumping in while it lasts. Sadly I can’t comment on pc servers. As far as I know the “official” servers are still active. Might just have to download a multiplayer update or something?
Funny to see this video come out as just last night I went to a local game store, picked up Fable 2, came home and dusted off the 360 to play it. That startup screen and dashboard brought back some memories.
Xbox 360 was my first console and to this day my favorite outside of the Switch. It had such a fantastic library no stupid lengthy installs, played right off the discs. It had a way better controller than the PS3 I got late in the Gen. I sold it because I can now play 99% of those games with better graphics on PC but I have fond memories of it. Xbox really messed up with their later consoles.
Always liked the PS3 Controller more, even when it was really small. XBOX got game chat going for it, that was HUGE back then. I hated it that the PS3 had no integrated voice chat.
I was just playing on my modded 360 with my friend and honestly the games hold up very well. We played some army of two 40th day, call of duty, and a bunch of other games on there. And now I'm headed back home so I'ma let him borrow it for a bit.
I have a PS5, but I might have to get a Series X as well. I joined the top tier PS Plus account to play Split/Second PS3. On PS5, I can stream it, but it has no upgrades or enhancements. Looks like a slightly MORE pixelated PS3 version.... On Series X, you can play it natively, plus it upscales it to 4k @ 30fps. It's my favorite racing game of all time. It looks like a new game on Series X.
The Xbox 360/PS3 Era was the best as hell, it was the peak of online gaming. I remember downloading alot of demos on my Xbox 360, those were fun times lol. Stranglehold was pretty awesome, I still got my copy on 360 (hopefully I get Chow Yun Fat and John Woo to sign it one day). I got both Left 4 Dead games and Ive played Gears of War but not recently, need to get back into it. I still got my Battlefield 3 copy, need to get back into it. I keep my Xbox 360 because there are Original Xbox and Xbox 360 games that are playable on it that aren't backwards compatible to Xbox Series X.
I loved Gotham City Imposters. It was a games with gold one month, and me and my housemate played the hell out of it. When they started backward compatible on xbox one, this was the one game I was waiting for that never came 😢
Activision did remaster Modern Warfare 2 (2009) for the Xbox One and PS4, but it was ONLY the campaign without the multiplayer. However they did remaster CoD 4 Modern Warfare campaign + multiplayer for the Xbox One and PS4.
Im assuming the reason some of these games are still finding active lobbies is because the backwards compatibility on xbox series/ one lets you play with 360 players as well.
I am playing on my brothers Xbox 360 still, our mom and dad passed away and we didnt have any support and sitll don’t now. My brother makes enough to support us both but I told him as long as I can still play the 360 online don’t worry about me. It would be nice to have a console. Maybe one day.
They're not paying just for 360, they're BC games. Nearly every BC game will be dead unless you randomly run into achievement hunters or niche friend group that plays some random specific old game.
I remember my first time playing Gotham City Imposters. I think it came as a free game one month with Gold or something, either way it was free, and one of my xbox friends got me to download it and we played the hell out of that game. He was one of my first xbox friends that I'm still friends with today. Man...good times
I still have a 360 and a large collection of games I'm still adding to now. I play regularly online in the 360 as well. Just as a reference I also have 2 PS3's one fully backwards compatible 60GB and a PS3 Slim. Also play on that regularly as well. I have a PS5 and Xbox Series X as well. Yea a lot of ppl still play on the 7th generation of consoles pretty regularly I'm in the Xbox 360 subreddit and the PS3 one.
I just recently got a 360 again and it’s been a very long time but I need help getting a gold membership because my Xbox doesn’t give me the option to purchase one so how can I get Xbox live?
I got skate 1, 2, and 3 on xbox 360 and ps3. It definitely took a good while getting used to after playing skater xl like 150 hours. Even going back to skater xl after playing session for a while takes a second. Love all the skate games!
Its such a shame that they dont let you play 360 multiplayer games for free in 2023, imagine being someone who just found their old 360 and wants to play just one time after a long period of not playing anything and he has to pay to play bo2 with his old friends
@@rittis013 I think there's ways of doing it for free now through community made servers. At least on the original xbox you can just use insignia to get xbox live functionality.
Thanks for the trip back to my childhood. I remember being like 7 and playing raw vs smack down with friends and trying the moves on each other when our mom's said we played enough for the day😂.
Halo, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto, Forza, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Madden, NBA 2k, Skate, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Street Fighter 2 and 3, Darkstalkers, Marvel vs. Capcom 2… had a lot of games I played online in the 360 era. The best era for console online multiplayer, specifically in the community side. And I could play any and all genres I wanted, titles new and old. No mandatory subscription either.
When BC hit in 2016 the reprints of all the BC games Walmart, Target, and to a lesser extent GameStop bought came in those XB1 sized cases to help the common person know it would work on the XBox One, however, they didn't disclose that the console needed a one-time connection to the internet to download the game file, and that caused many issues for retail employees.
Another game from that era that I know that is active (or at least was a few months ago when I randomly got into again) is the Mass Effect 3 online multiplayer that is basically a co-op horde mode that was free to play, but included a fairly early loot box system to unlock extra characters and weapons. It's another one that I would guess is getting a boost from the backward compatibility of the Xbox Series consoles and the fact that both the new Legendary editions of the trilogy (without the multiplayer) and the original versions are available through Game Pass with the deal Microsoft has with EA.
That intro As someone who grew up with counter strike, unreal tournament, Warcraft , StarCraft, command and conquer etc It was the generation when multiplayer went to shit because every game wasted resources for a tacked on multiplayer mode Mass effect, bioshock 2, uncharted, last of us, resident evil 5/6 Who the fuck needed multiplayer in their story driven singleplayer games
Awesome video, I found it really interesting. Any 360 game that uses standard Xbox Live matchmaking still works, so maybe that’s why the Halo Reach demo still works whereas the full game no longer does? My guess is the demo didn’t have custom servers, just standard XBL matchmaking.
Unless Sony and Microsoft finally pull the plug on these old systems, I wonder if eventually there will be so many players spread out across many different retro online systems?
You should do a live stream and play some 360 games online. There would probably be a decent number of people who would watch the stream and try to join in a play with you. You could maybe even get enough people to play that Reach demo
The 360 makes modern microsoft xbox gaming look like a sad excuse for a gaming company. I still play mine on the regular (games look great on my QLED), and I love the ability to use a usb external HD with it. We will never see PS2 and 360 type eras ever again. So many games by the 3rd year of release for each of those amazing console. Such variety. Polished and complete releases. No 70gb day1 patch necessary. No over online coverage of gaming or toxic qwerty keyboard fanboyism ruining hardware manufacturers objectivity. Developers can barely get AAA titles out on a regular rotation today, seem behind on the current technology. I miss the ps2 360 eras, you could just walk into a store and scoop up a couple games to get int ever couple weeks.

I find myself revisiting old games, even Left 4 Dead 2 in VR, but it's a hollow feeling, it just reminds me of better times. The xbox live party was perma-disbanded long ago now😞
I am shocked that people are still playing these old ass games on the 360. It goes to show just how important game preservation really is.
It gave me the biggest warm fuzzy feeling seeing people are still playing MW2 online. Cod multiplayer really peaked with MW2 and it makes sense people are keeping it alive still. I know I'll put my copy in my series X tonight and try and find a match.
The enjoyment that gaming brought me during the 2008 to 2012 ERA is simply something I can never experience again
Can we go back to that era plz :(
It's never coming back
I hear ya 😔
Wish we could, with all sorts of areas the world has entered
On god ps3 and Xbox 360 was the 🔥 era
No you're old
Hell yeah. the Xbox 360 days were AMAZING!
I miss the 360 days there no bs bought mine back in 2006
The last console generation, that I truly loved.
Yess
Never played the multiplayer of either Bad Company 1 or 2. Are both still worth it?
Literally got this and part one for 95¢ at a store that sales alot of good gems for x360 playstation etc
I miss being excited for map packs back then on cod .
Paid DLC > Season Pass
@@darkobingus9714Better days when the season pass actually gave you content.
Dude the hype about new zombie maps was unreal back then! Especially on black ops 2
@@Leo.de99 it really was ! New zombie map packs had us all excited .
The main reason why I keep my 360 is for 3rd Strike OE. It's still a lot of fun, and Xbox arcade has a lot of gems.
Series X is BANGIN
@@Cricis11700But the library cannot be compared to xbox360
@@robinrother3032 get a 360, I have both, I can't loose.
@@Cricis11700 kk, I had a 360 back in the halo 3 bc2 bf3 days, was great
Always liked the PS3 Controller more, even when it was really small. XBOX got game chat going for it, that was HUGE back then. I hated it that the PS3 had no integrated voice chat.
Black ops 2 usually has around 1K on weekends. Pretty easy to find a match
Grand theft auto 4 servers are always busy.
I was just playing on my modded 360 with my friend and honestly the games hold up very well. We played some army of two 40th day, call of duty, and a bunch of other games on there. And now I'm headed back home so I'ma let him borrow it for a bit.
I still and daily play my 360 from 2010. I always have MW3 in because I live the modes, great content.
The problem with going with these older games is your highly likely to find hacked games
Sometimes I feel Discord has replicated what we first experienced on Xbox Live party chats
Man the Xbox 360 and that era was the best in gaming history in my opinion.
06-09 was PEAK discovery phase for the 7th gen. Good times.. GREAT fucking times...
Im assuming the reason some of these games are still finding active lobbies is because the backwards compatibility on xbox series/ one lets you play with 360 players as well.
L4D, Gears & CoD all checkout with that theory
I am playing on my brothers Xbox 360 still, our mom and dad passed away and we didnt have any support and sitll don’t now. My brother makes enough to support us both but I told him as long as I can still play the 360 online don’t worry about me. It would be nice to have a console. Maybe one day.
I would totally re-buy Gotham City Imposters if they re-released it, with faster refresh rates, 60+ fps and more.
It really deserves a sequel as well.
I remember that game 😱
I believe the servers are up on steam and it’s free
@@KiiNGMoney212 they took down the free to play GCI last I checked. When it was going it was very low playerbase & alot of cheaters.
They're not paying just for 360, they're BC games. Nearly every BC game will be dead unless you randomly run into achievement hunters or niche friend group that plays some random specific old game.
The best Era of gaming
I forgot about that install your disc game feature. It saved me from whenever a game's disc would get scratched up and not fully read anymore.
I remember my first time playing Gotham City Imposters. I think it came as a free game one month with Gold or something, either way it was free, and one of my xbox friends got me to download it and we played the hell out of that game. He was one of my first xbox friends that I'm still friends with today. Man...good times
I really miss the 7th gen and I'm very happy that it was allowed to exist longer than a console generation usually is.
This era of gaming was truly special
I loved this era. Playing halo 3 on 360 and Resistance 2 on the PS3 was the best time!
So many great games on that console, back when Microsoft cared about putting good games on their console, it was their last great generation.
Saints Row 1 gang matches, CoD4/MW2, Halo 3, and GoW was such an era to be a part of. Gaming can never give me what those games did back in the day.
Broooo you just brought me back those SR1 gang wars were crazy back in the day!
MW2 on 360 was my first COD. Best gaming era ever.
I was 10 playing mw2 back in 2009 😂 it was the best time
Pop Cap's "Heavy Weapon" was my all time favourite Xbox 360 online game. Played it for hours on end lol
A real shame that the servers for Burnout Revenge are offline, great game with great online play.
the week Skate 3 became backwards compatible it shot to the top of the Amazon gaming charts.
so it makes kinda sense that it's still played
I miss the open voice chat lobbies. Call of duty was fun.
Nowadays no one uses a mic and if they do, you have to be in parties
This is cool. It reminds me of the annual series Mystic has when he checks up on PS3 online gaming
You can still play Halo 3 daily on the 360. Plenty of custom games and even matchmaking
Imagine if Spawn Wave jumped on and found Mystic Ryan.
Fun fact about Stranglehold: it is a continuation of an old movie called Hard Boiled!
Back when people were actually in game chat being social and talking a little trash
Esta barato
I starting to collecting old systems and I'm so frustrated at xbox360 the most because of paid wall. The thing almost useless without online or hacked
2005 - 2012 Xbox live was something you had to experience... You missed out on the best gaming experienc in history ever!
.
I wholeheartely agree! Something just didn't feel right about gaming on the PS4/X1 after 2012...
RIP the halo servers man
When BC hit in 2016 the reprints of all the BC games Walmart, Target, and to a lesser extent GameStop bought came in those XB1 sized cases to help the common person know it would work on the XBox One, however, they didn't disclose that the console needed a one-time connection to the internet to download the game file, and that caused many issues for retail employees.
That intro
As someone who grew up with counter strike, unreal tournament, Warcraft , StarCraft, command and conquer etc
It was the generation when multiplayer went to shit because every game wasted resources for a tacked on multiplayer mode
Mass effect, bioshock 2, uncharted, last of us, resident evil 5/6
Who the fuck needed multiplayer in their story driven singleplayer games
You can still find people playing 360 games online because the games are backwards compatible with the one and series consoles.
Time i buy a 360 i regret getting rid of mines.
The sliding folders was the best theme they had. I felt absolutely *betrayed* when they replaced it with no options to go back
The 360 makes modern microsoft xbox gaming look like a sad excuse for a gaming company.
Peak gaming era, miss those days
true true i love the 360
Even though MW2 was big halo 3 was so big. It was the number one multiplayer game on 360 even during the time of Modern warfare 2
Every 360 game here looks better than Gollum
I've had dumps that look better than gollum
gollum looks like dark souls 3
The peak of gaming in terms of memories and community and friendships built, the 360/PS3 was also the era that pushed for HD games and damn just go look at Halo reach that game was so incredible, miss those days 😢 ...
If the Xbox 360 games is available on Xbox one/series via backwards compatibility then you'll find people to play with.
Xbox 360 only games are pretty much empty for Multiplayer.
The amount of nostalgia and goosebumps i have with this video. Im at a loss for words... TAKE ME BACK!
I play xbox 360 still because gaming today is shit. The games are boring and not near as entertaining.
I played the shit outta Gotham City Imposters, it's criminal that they haven't made a follow-up
