Don't Stay at an All Inclusive Resort in Punta Cana 😮 Travel to the Dominican Republic 2021

- In this video we're showing you how you can visit Punta Cana, Dominican Republic without staying at an all inclusive resort!
So many people visit the Dominican Republic and only stay on the resort and don't venture of the premises. However, there are loads of condos and apartments available all over the place in very safe neighbourhoods that you can rent for really great rates. There's also lots of fabulous restaurants and beach clubs.
We show you around our one-bedroom rental apartment in the Bavaro area of Punta Cana. This apartment also has a pool and a gym.
Find the AirBNB listing here: www.airbnb.ca/rooms/30425842
Later we head out of our apartment back to Bavaro Beach where we visit Soles Beach Club. Here you'll find beach chairs as well as great food and drinks.
Lastly we head to a Mexican restaurant in the area called Pastrata where we have a delicious dinner.

Thanks so much for sharing your adventures! Personally, I think renting an apt. or airBnB is the way for travellers to really experience local life and culture...from a "when in Rome..." perspective. The Mexican food looked amazing too! In future videos, I would love to see you shop local markets and prepare a meal or two - maybe Sancocho or Mangú.
We'll be doing all of that in future videos Fema 🤗- Anna
Gotta love the dominican republic
Thanks for all this really helpful information and great suggestions. I'm actually headed to the DR on Sunday, and you're making me very excited about it.
Great video guys. We are looking at DR so we will be watching more for your hints. 👍😀
It's incredible here Renata. The DR is such a gem and where we are now in the north is unbelievable 🤗 More videos on the way of course - Anna
I'm so jealous of your tans! The apartment looks a lot better than the resort. Thank you for posting this because I wouldn't have considered Airbnb or something like that in the Dominican republic. Looks soooooo nice!
How delightful to see a video from you two on a Thursday! That apartment was niiiiiiiiiiice. Looking forward to your sampling the local cuisine!
Thanks MM! We're going to try to do an extra video a couple times a month if we can swing it 😀 - Trevor
I will, of course, be looking for ALL your videos!
Thank you so much for this insightful video! Yeah, I think renting an apartment/condo and checking out local restaurants and other venues sounds more like my vibe as a vacation option. Also, WOW I LOVE THAT WALL CLOCK! It’s so awesome 🤩.
Isn't that clock the best Colleen?! Punta Cana (outside of resorts) has a lot going on! - Anna
Dominican foods you guys should try:
- La Bandera a.k.a The Flag. This is the staple dish of the DR
- Mangu.
- Sancocho.
- Fried fish with tostones
- Mofongo. This one is technically from Puerto Rico but we eat it a lot here
I love this, I'm not an all inclusive resort person and love to support locals on holiday so never really thought of the Caribbean but it's on my list!! Love you guys and so happy that you are travelling again xx
You can't beat the Caribbean Samantha. It's a lot of fun - Trevor
fantastic guys! what a wonderful apartment! looks like you are having a blast!
Taki the DR is treating us well. You should come visit! 😀- Trevor
So happy to watch you two in a tropical place again!!! Wish I was there thanks for sharing!!🍁👍
We’re still over the moon that we are here! 🤗 - Anna
Wow, love that Airbnb! We live in Airbnb's full time and that one looks amazing. Nice to see you out travelling again and enjoying the hot and sunny weather. Still in Montreal for another couple of weeks, then will have to spend the winter in Toronto this year. Hoping to get away for part of the winter if possible, but if not, we'll be living vicariously through your videos. Cheers :)
Uff! Y'all Just gave Me a great idea for Me to traveling back to my country after being Absent for almost 3 Decades,This would be Huge for My Family whom hadn't being there ever, They'll Love it,thanks a lot Guys for sharing this beautiful Video,Wow! I missing This So Much!😱
Awesome! Glad you're exploring and Enjoying!
We have lots of exploring coming up! - Anna
Thank you for sharing these nice images of your travels, I am a ponctuel follower of your page, good luck and good continuation, with love from casablanca Morocco 🇲🇦
We very much prefer the AIRBnB/Condo rental as opposed to the all-inclusive as well. We like going to different restaurants, hanging more with locals, making our own breakfast & lunch, and dinner out! Great video guys! - Coreen
That's exactly what we do... eat at home in the day and then go out at night usually (except for tonight) We cooked! 🤗- Anna
You guys are getting tanned. I'm jealous. Looks like a great place - enjoy!
The tan is slowly coming back. It’s been a while 😉- Trevor
Love your videos! Excellent informations! Thanks
Glad you like them Cindy 🤗- Anna
@11:33 I KNEW you were going for Mexican! Anna I’m on board with the corn, do not like flour unless it’s fried and crispy! Fabulous mid week video guys! Love your place! So happy for you two! ~Cara ❤️
Haha you guys always know what we like! 🤗 - Anna
guys are wonderful
Beautiful condo and pool. Love the tan. Enjoy your stay. Thanks for the tour.😎
The tan is starting to come in finally. It only took 3 weeks haha - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers best way is gradual so you don’t burn.
……..and you’re back in the pool!! 😊👍 great to join you both midweek, it’s not so long until Sunday now 😂
It’s a 2 video kind of week Helen 😀 - Trevor
Thanks fo letting me follow your travels … my way of travelling for awhile! Greetings from NS
Thank you for always following along 🤗 - Anna
Glad you guys are enjoying my home country.
When I visit again I definitely need to do an off-resort thing. Hitting up the restaurants in the area sounds nice. The condo residences look great. Keep enjoying yourselves!
Get some Mangú (mashed boiled green plantains) w/tres golpes. That's salami, fried eggs, fried white cheese combo, hence the name tres golpes (three hits). Onions or no onions. With a lil cooking oil mixed into and or butter (for the plantains) or just plainly done and mixed with a bit of the boiled water that was used for the plátanos.
Thank you so much for all the tips. We'll definitely try to make our own plantains at some point 😀- Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers lol, it's not difficult at all, just boil them for mangu or fry them for tostones.
Thank you Trevor and Anna for sharing your Adventures : )
🤗
Great video guys!! Have to say we love the all inclusive and also love to rent a spot and live among the locals and do the touring and trying the local restaurants as well....just can't wait to hit that beach in a couple weeks!!...Viv
They really do both have pros and cons. You must be excited to go!? - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers Its -3 and we have flurries in our forecast for tonight!!...yes indeed we can't wait!!! Then Dec to deal with winter and then we are gone till spring...counting down the days!! Too bad you guys are farther away from Bavaro beach area we would love to have met you but if your in Mexico and in QROO next year let us know!!...Viv
Loving your videos!
Glad you like them!
Very good video. Keep having fun.
We're having a blast Dewayne. The DR is great! - Anna
Pool every day sounds lovely. We're currently travelling up the east coast of the US and I think I just had my last swim for a while today.
Hardly an unknown Netflix show, but Squid Game is amazing.
Woh east coast USA? Our part of Canada is just above that - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers yeah, we contemplated heading across the border (very tempted to stay at your tiny home!), but I don't think we'll have time this time around. 90 days goes by so quickly and we don't want to overstay our visa.
Squid Games is a great show - unexpectedly crazy, but amusingly good. 👍 highly recommended
Nice to see your travel video again...
Thanks! 😃We're so happy to be back on the road - Anna
Ok!!!!!! I am back to watching your vlogs and OMG!!! I've always wanted to visit Dominican Republic!!! I'll be binge watching your vlogs starting now from the moment you left Canada!! So happy for you guys!!! (Oh and I once heard from a Mexican friend that the second tortilla is to pick up and remainings that fall on your plate from eating tacos. So it's like they give you 2 but you actually get 4 😁) Hope you both are doing well!!!
Welcome back Sweet Journey 🤗
Great video guys! Loved it! Question: How much is that condo you guys are staying at? Thank you! :)
Love your videos of the Dominican Republic. I like your Condo. I know they have been advertising a few new shows on Netflix, but I don't remember the titles. I don't usually watch to much Netflix.
Thanks for always watching Roseanne 😀- Trevor
Very nice place you guys got over in Dominican like that wall clock Anna was showing us so kool lol the swimming pool looks so nice and prob refreshing 🙂the beach and the drink u guys had looked soo good!hope you both have alot of fun staying there for a long while 😁noticed u two got a lil sun burned already lol
Thanks for watching Shawn! The clock is so cool 🤗 - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers what is the name of the apartment you were staying at?
Love a midweek post ☺️
We’re going to try a mid week post a couple times a month for the next while 😀 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers Brilliant 👍🏼 look forward to all of them 😁
Everything looks amazing! What is the name of the condo complex you guys stayed at?
New follower! heading to Punta Cana in 2 weeks so excited first all inclusive as we just want to be pampered....hmmm:)
As a new subscriber, go back and watch their adventures! They have so much fun to offer you’ll love it!
Oh wow! Have a blast! It’s great here in the DR! - Trevor
Staying in Punta Cana in a few months for the first time. Doing the all inclusive this time. I have seen Air BNB deals and couldn’t believe the size and quality of these rentals
Nice video. Love the condo. You guys look great, nice and tanned. Also love your beach wear. Looking forward to more. Do you feel safe there? Just wondering. Thanks and take care.
We feel very safe here Karen. The DR is fantastic! - Trevor
Great video. When you think of Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana costing £7800 for the room we want for a 2 weeks stay it makes one think about not visiting a all inclusive. The all inclusive is nice but there are other options and the food can be better outside the resort. Thanks for sharing Tony & Laura Subscribed
Great video! I've been living in Mexico for 5 years and I'm team flour tortilla. Either way, tacos are life!
We can no longer be friends 😂 corn all the way 😉- Trevor
Love your videos and jealous of the tropical weather! It’s starting to get cold here in Halifax. I’m curious how’s the credit card situation down there if you’re doing DIY? Or do you pay everything in cash? Looking forward to more content from DR!
We use our credit card almost everywhere. Most places take one but there are definitely some 'Cash Only' places / restos 😀 - Trevor
nice video guys like always. i hope you guys go to Barahona and pedernales as a lot of tourist dont go there. but that area has the best beaches in the dominican republic..
We know of that area but it’s very out of the way. We’re not sure we will get there 😀 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers yes you are right is long way to get there but the beaches are beautiful...thank you and safe travels...
Nah the fams and the kids loved the all inclusive spot we stayed at in punta Cana. Beach, water park, pools, food and bars all within walking distance. I'm hooked
Hey guys we're traveling to the DR in a few weeks. Just wondering if you had to have a PCR before entering the country?
Wowww , woww woww ,
it’s costa hermoza condos, excellent excellent place I stayed there all the time .
Nice tips👍
Thanks 🙏
There are a lot of very nice resorts in that area. I would definitely do another resort in the future. However, after seeing this video, I will definitely explore the condo/apartment option. FYI: I hope that you are fairly fluent in Español. 😁
Are the restaurants close to the condo? Can you find supermarkets in the are as well to buy vegetables and fruit?
I loved this video 👍🇨🇦🇨🇦. Seems so quite there . Not many people around.?
There's not too many folks around at all. I think it will pick up in the winter months but overall it's pretty chill 😀- Trevor
Anna and Trevor, three tumbs up, fantastic video!!!
One detail could you please give us some prices on what the stuff you "buy"just to get an idea? Like how much you paid for the apartment, how much for dinner?
That would be awesome to get an idea on how much we'd spend in DR.
Muchas Gracias!
We will do a full cost of living video eventually 😀 the condo was $70/night. That meal was about $30-40 with drinks. We find that most restaurants cost half the price of restaurants in Canada or the US - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers awesome thanks so much very Informative!
It’d be interesting to see a grocery shopping experience in DR.
We'll definitely do that in Cabarete DR - Anna
Wow guys, 39K views on this vid, great job! From one Canadian to you both, so glad we are travelling again. Your Anywhere hoodies are going away with us again to Cancun in December, woohoo!🇨🇦👍🎉
Thanks Sue... send us pics in your hoodies 😀Cancun woohoo - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers absolutely, we will send via email, have fun guys, enjoy every day!
Hi, you should try going to Las Terrenas and Las Galeras in Samana. Also Bahia de las Aguilas in Barahona.
My husband & I are Dominican Republican fans 🇩🇴 and we are sure enjoying watching your new adventure!! We have spent most of our time in Samana region & Sosua & Caberete but a couple years ago stayed in Bayahibe area on the punta Cana side. We can’t wait to see your north coast travels & hopefully you make your way to Samana & experience Las Terranas:) we do have a couple cool places to suggest staying at and/or visiting …. In Samana check out El Cabito , we stayed there a couple times once in the tree house …. So fun! We also stayed in las Terranas a few times and could recommend a couple places there as well. Looking forward to all your future content fellow Canadians!!
Oh wow... we will definitely visit Samana in the next month or so but our home base is going to be Cabarete. We're here now and it's incredible. Let us know your reccos in Las Terranas though... we'd luv to know - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers for sure we will do that …. We can links to your email or would u prefer to just have us post the names of the places here? Of course with COVID we don’t know if they are all still open
@@valzurba send it to our email address if you can 🤗
I totally agree corn tortillas are the best.
Dominican food you should try would be: Sancoho, la bandera dominicana this is rice with beans and meat could be chiken or beef. You have to try mofongo, pork chicharron, mangu with salami and eggs is typical breaksfast, try also habichuelas con dulce and real passion fruit juice. 🤗
That apartment looks amazing.
Love the out door space.
We’re the local restaurants in walking distance?
Everything was in a 5 to 10 minute walk 🤗 - Anna
We are headed back to the DR for Christmas.
Try some mangu with tres golpes! Soooo good. Typically for breakfast but you can honestly eat it anytime lol. Try it!!!
How much were the meals/drinks?
I get an apartment in Bavaro about a half mile from the beach. I love it and have been there 7x
I stayed at Doris' condo in Costa Hermosa last December. It was amazing!!
Haha what are the odds! Great condo right? - Anna
How much was this apt ?? How long were you there for ?? Contact info ?? My partner and I are looking to go there for our first visit . From. Cold Brandon manitoba . Hugz and great video !! Luv it, Wess and David 😊
I just came back from the same area in Punta Cana. Try Wacamole(burrito), Citrus, Republic Bar (shrimp mofongo with white sauce), Onno’s, Dalia’s Bakery, TOC bar. Coco Bongo was a good time too, but only if you’re ok with pre-pandemic crowds.
We’ve been to almost all of those places! Such a great town 😀 - Trevor
Hi have you been able to get a good quality steak in the area same quality with the get out of steak restaurant here in Canada
Love your wife she’s the vibe🔥🔥🔥🔥🥰💙
Hello, I realize that you likely get asked this a lot, but. I too, am Canadian and am from Nova Scotia , we would like to rent a condo in Sousa next Feb- March, but we are at a loss who to book through. Is there anyway that you could recommend someone to book through. Airbnb and VRBO were suggested, but I’ll have seen bad reviews for them. Thank you from one Bluenoser to another
MUCHAS GRACIAS POR PROMOVER LA REPUBLICA DOMINICANA , MUCHAS GRACIAS Y MUCHOS EXITOS.
Looks like a very nice. Wondering if you could mention the price of the food and drinks when you are out and about? Did you make all your accommodation bookings prior to arriving there? Also are you mostly using the DR currency (Peso's) and are you exchanging from CAD to DOP or are you using USD also. Are most transactions in cash? I am just curious about overall costs when you are now living more in the local areas. We are just use to the resorts and local vendors at resorts. Thanks and looking forward to following you both along.
We normally put prices in our full food videos which we’ll continue to do. We always use pesos but a lot of places do take credit cards. We booked this condo a week before while we were at the resort 😀 - Trevor
How much ????? What did things cost? How much was the room? Taxis? Dinner? Beer prices? Tipping ?
I also would love it if you would include prices for your accommodation, drinks and meals. I thought the title referred to that!
I really want to get away from resorts. It is THE reason I subscribed oh so long ago. You guys can teach me a ton. I am really only interested in restaurants, bars, and pubs. Preferably with live music.
You'd luv the DR then. It has all of the above and everything is so much better off resort 🤗- Anna
Beautiful place , I love it. What the name of your ab n b do you have a link
The link is below in the description area - Anna
I would love it if you would include prices for your accommodation, drinks and meals.
Hi there I'm from DR , I like your videos you should eat Dominican breakfast Mangu, fried eggs ,Salami with onions.
How did you find a place to rent? We are coming for 4 months and we want to rent a place
Love this information as we plan to visit DR.. please send me info
Many thanks
You need to check out juanillo beach it's is beautiful . When we went a few years ago it was deserted and only a few hotels we had the beach to ourselves . Now the all inclusive resorts have taken over so not sure if u can still go . Also Macao beach not too far from bavaro is great also . It seems like the hotel's have taken over all the nice private beaches we use to visit ... Not a secret anymore . Enjoy the DR we have been numerous times !
Macao is coming up in tomorrow’s video 🤫 😉- Trevor
Looking fwd to getting the tour of dominican, I’ve only been to punta cana. Which area of DR would u like to return to?
It's obvious which area if you go back and scroll through our videos 😉
try sancocho, also a typical breakfast, mofongo, fried plantains either green or ripe, moro, arroz con guandules, pollo guisado, pastelon platano maduro, fried fish,
Hey guys, I love the look of those condos you are staying at. Did I miss the name and cost? Don’t think so, if you could advise. I have never considered anything other than resorts, but I’m changing my mind thanks to you. It looks beautiful there. It looks very safe in the town and the restaurant food looked delish. We were just about to book a resort for Christmas in Romana but now we’re confused! Lol.
Haha right!? There is a while other side of Punta Cana. The link is the description to book this place. It’s called Costa Hermosa. All the buildings in this area are great! We so prefer this over a resort but that’s just us 😀 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers thanks so much. Will check it out.
You can get a lot more staying at your own apartment in Punta Cana. There are so many beaches and places to visit there. The resorts are limited.
Hello. Love this apartment complex. Can you share the name of it?
The link to this place in the comments no longer works. Can you tell us the name of the condo complex so we can search for it?
I just got back from Punta Cana we stayed at Secrets royal beaches, it was beautiful!
Sounds like you had a great time 🤗- Anna
Jumping places have been to DomRep months ago. You might want to check where they went.
We chat with those guys all the time 👍They definitely gave us some tips - Trevor
Hey guys love your video bend to the Dominican a bunch of times for the people that have not could you give them prices on food and lodging your bud Joe from South Georgia
Guys this place is amazing! So much better than staying in a resort for sure. The beach and views are gorgeous. Keep enjoying and make sure you wear sunscreen!!!!! 🥰😂♥️
Thanks so much Jessica. Hope all is well 😀- Trevor
Hello, love your videos, a quick question, we are planning a trip, (to Aruba), and are hearing and reading about all this extra, you have to have a PCR test before leaving Canada and as well leaving Aruba, plus Aruba needs for you to purchase visitors insurance while you are there, we are looking at an extra $800 to travel there, did you have to do any of this to get into the Dominican, we are missing our trips, but do not know if we can justify this, we may have to travel through you guys LOL
You don't have to do any of that to come to the DR here. There's no extra costs or PCR tests to enter. There's a visitor form to fill out online (before you come) that provides a QR code to scan on arrival. That's free and easy 🤗 - Anna
Do you need a PCR test to leave? Or is it just a questionnaire?
Enjoy...
🥰
Hello from HalifaxQuick question why you picked the Dominican for a long stay?
Hi.. why not choose the DR? There's lots to see here, great weather, beaches and nature etc. Plus it's an easy flight home - Trevor
Hey I’m traveling to the Dominican Republic this Sunday from the US! I’m triple checking lol but is a negative COVID-19 test required for entry? I did see they can randomly select travelers upon arrival
A negative test is not required. Have fun!
@@DelightfulTravellers thank you!
How plentiful are the mosquitoes and jejenes in the apartment that you were staying in?
Did you guys just walk around to get food or did you rent a car? And did you book transportation from the airport to your apartment?
Yeah we just walked around on our own in PC to eat etc. We did rent a car as well but mainly up on the North Coast (different area)
how much per night for that unit guys?
Costa hermosa bavaro punta cana is the place . Beautiful place
I will be in Santo Domingo next month. I hope you all are visiting Boca Chica in the next video. It is one of the best beaches on the island.
That's not the beach we're going to but we did find a great one! - Anna
Can you send info on that condo
Wow. Great condo. Now I'm hungry😶
So good!
