I'm Dominican and we are descendants of Spaniards, Africans and Tainos (the island's indigenous people). The DR is a multiracial nation with a Hispanic culture. Similar to Puerto Rico and Cuba.
@@RealBadCharlie You're right. We were the first Hispanic nation in the Western Hemisphere and I'm surprised that there are still doubts about our identity.
By Juan Andrés Muñoz, CNN- Dominican Republic is an evil country, not only known as a prostitution hotspot in the Caribbean, as one of the largest exporters of prostitutes in the world, and a country where minors are used to attract tourists to go pay for cheap s3x, according to UNICEF.
Worth mentioning is that the taxi drivers here in Punta Cana are extremely overpriced. Be careful when ordering a taxi from the hotel, negotiate the price before the ride. Would recommend to go with an Uber and you’ll save tons of money.
DR is a brothel in the Caribbean where tourists go to pay for cheap s3x with minors. On top of taking over the Public Charity System of the USA where they live as freeloaders, and leaders in drug trafficking to the world. Do not take the night flight in or out, if you take the last flight in? you'll be close mid night by the time you get to you room. and if you take the late flight out of Punta Cana? you might be hanging out on the lobby till late in the afternoon for your shuttle to the airport. Check out time is 11:00 and most late flight is 8:00pm. Also if you stay in big hotels, the beach gets too crowded. We stayed in Bhaia Princepe at one time, 3 diff. sections and could go as high as 12,000 guest between the 3 hotels. always hard to get a spot in the beach, but the hotels are really nice. This was before pandemic. Always have few $1 bills for tips, it can always go a long way for service. And by the way the night flight in and out I was talking about are cheaper than morning or afternoon flight. over all? great place to go.
Hi, we were at the Impressive in 2021 and it was quite nice. When we booked we only booked the standard hotel but they offered us to upgrade to the Premium side for a price. The check in staff gave me a price ( I cant remember how much but when I didn't seem interested they said , well then you give me a price and I'll see if the manager will accept it. I think I only offered $100/pp for the entire week and they said OK so we upgraded to a room with a pool and beach view and a Butler who booked all of our a la carte restaurants for us for the entire week ( worth it right there). You also get a smaller quiet pool with a swim up bar. There is also a small breakfast and lunch area for Premium guests. We also got our Butler to book us lunch at the Beach Restaurant overlooking the ocean and the peer (so nice). I thought it might not be that much of a difference but it was well worth it. The Impressive Grounds and Beach (not much seaweed at all) are very lush and well kept and the a la Carte Restaurants were quite good but I did find the Buffet a bit lacking but overall we would go back to the Impressive Resort but definitely book the Premium if you can.
1.5 weeks to go... going back for the 3rd time!! Past 2 times stayed at a condo..this time doing the same and renting a car again.cant wait for 2.5 weeks in the DR!!
And I find weird that they won't let you check in before 3! I'm native so I don't have the experience of coming as a foreigner, but to us they just let us check in, give us our bracelets and let us enjoy the amenities the moment we arrive, and then we go retrieve our room keys when they're ready. They've never let us waiting in the lobby and my family and I go to at least two different all inclusives every year.
I agree that dose sound weird not to check in before 3pm. Also, not being able to leave your baggage behind in order to enjoy the site. I wonder if other resorts have the same policy with no check in b efore 3 as well as baggage to leave behind.
My experience has been that they let you leave your luggage up front while they clean the rooms. Then you're free to enjoy the resort until your room is ready. No problems.
He did mention that he had the choice of leaving his luggage at the front desk but he declined because his computer was in his luggage and I think it was wise of him
Hotel Hamaca wouldn't check me in because I didn't have a piece a paper with the reservation details! Silly me thinking that we were in the 21st century and I could be checked in by pulling out my info from their computer 🙄
About the check-in time at the hotels... you can request early access with your tourist agency, especially if you have children included in the reservation (I say this because I visit All Inclusive resorts every year, at least 2 or 3 times a year and that's how I use to do it). So I don't have to stay in the lobby waiting, even if the room isn't ready, I can enjoy the hotel until the room is ready and I leave my luggage and continue with the activities.
My main advice would be that if you want to come, learn some Spanish or get a friend who speaks it, since it will be easier to get to know the place and get better prices.
Best time to go, heat is not that terrible from December - February it feels like late Spring in the US.. I'm doing PC as a first timer, frequent traveler to Mexico. I'm liking it a lot. The beaches and resorts are great here. I also enjoyed Colonial Santo Domingo. It's charming and very clean. My only complaint here is how much the roads are full of litter near towns and cities. Lots of illegal dumping. You'll see signs saying NO BASURA, and there'll be like 100 kitchen bags worth of trash piled beneath it. Yuck.
There are many Russian expats in Punta Cana as well. Meliá Caribe Tropical is one of my favorite resorts for good food and variety not limited to buffets 😎
The whole "a lot of Russian people here" is because in 2018 the Dominican and Russian governments signed an agreement to abolish visas between the countries and reduce the traveling fees, so now Russians have a cheap option to visit the Caribbean.

I just returned from Punta Cana. I had a good time, but I won't go back. I found the service, at least at Lopesan, to be very bad. 50% chance you don't even get your room service, 30% chance you get the wrong drink or meal and they make no attempt to clarify if they don't understand. No problem with people struggling with English, but at least let me know you don't understand. I assume this is because DR tourists are largely Russian, Ukrainian, and Spanish. The excursions were absolutely awful. Each was essentially a sales trip and half of the time was spent touring around to try and make you buy junk. The buggies were the worst. The hustle was always on while simultaneously providing the worst service. Oh, and the airport is one of the worst I've ever been to in my life.
