DVRT™ - Flat Meplat vs Pointed Metplat

While analyzing thousands of Doppler radar drag curves, ballisticians isolated a bullet tip design that would reduce the variation in drag from bullet to bullet. Specifically, the meplat must be flat - not pointed - and the diameter of the flat meplat is a specific ratio to the bullet diameter. Hornady engineers have developed and patented Drag Variability Reduction Technology (DVRT) to increase the uniformity of bullet drag from shot to shot, resulting in less dispersion at long range.

Is it possible to quantify the variability trade off vs the BC improvement? Why - almost universally if not universally top F class shooters point bullets. Through large data samples they have proved small groups at 1000 and an improved BC i.e. the drag variability while existing is of less significance in the F-class shooting at 1000 use case. I think the DVRT issue may have a very specific application that's not coming across in the podcasts?

Similar to what top F-class guys do to open tip match bullets when they point them to a specific size. So if you guys can increase the integrity of jackets the market will be yours.

A very pointy meplat can introduce instability in the bullet and it starts to wobble . This wobble can get worse in the transonic zone and as the bullet exists the zone the wobble is worse and that increases it's drag . Bullets that are already a bad design in other ways will be even more affected . People should not confuse pointing a meplat a bit tighter to a very sharp point . No matter how much you close a meplat the jacket thicknes is still there making a small flat meplat . I think meplat pointing can be overdone and sometimes decreases accuracy . You should not close meplats to hunt game as they act like a FMJ .
