    Black people generally call out all racism done to us whether systemic or individual but when the question is flipped, a lot of us pretend that racism is only systemic. Growing up my neighbor was very racist against Asian people. She called them all chincs and said very derogatory comments. She would order food from the Chinese store and say "I want general tso chicken. You better not give me cat or dog because I know yall eat that." There is no way that anybody can claim that this is not racism. I want everybody to be held accountable for their discriminatory and prejudice comments and actions no matter how big or small.

    I need help understanding the “minorities can’t be racist” train of thought. If a minority person holds racist beliefs they’re not racist, but if they travel to a country where they’re a majority all of a sudden they become racist? The person hasn’t changed. Their location changed. Think about this hypothetical situation: say we do have a government where only minorities can vote but the individual races still account for a smaller percentage of the US pop than white people. If the minorities use their power to target white people, would they be racist then? And if the racist white people still hold beliefs, are they still racist in this society?

      We can’t , do your research on what racist means.
      the word “ ISM” means system yet no where is the definition of “RACISM” itself does the word “SYSTEM” exist. That was done purposely so we don’t acknowledge “RACISM” for the larger system that it actual is . RACISM can not be exercised without “POWER” , which should also be in all the definitions . The word “RACE” itself , was created by “RACIST” white people in the 16th century to categorize and oppress people. At the end of the day WHITE PEOPLE are at the TOP of the hierarchy and they do the MOST oppression to everyone . While black WOMEN are at the bottom then black MEN at the 2nd bottom . Other minorities aren’t as effected in systematic racism like black people are . There are tons of facts regarding that on the internet feel free to research yourself however if you want one we can look at REPARATIONS as a great example. The massacre of INDIGENOUS PEOPLE in America were paid REPARATIONS but black people were never paid anything . Even if a WHITE person were to go into a ALL BLACK TOWN and be denied JOBS , SERVICE , ETC that wouldn’t be RACISM THAT WOULD
      BE DISCRIMINATION simply because THAT TOWN STILL EXISTS in a larger system where WHITE PEOPLE still hold the power dynamic . if that same WHITE PERSON went anywhere else in the world and exercise their privilege in being in proximity to their whiteness, where as those black people can not , they are limited to only that town . With all the being said black people can not be racist , prejudice YES

    Black people are undervalued and there is definitely prejudice systemically and there are definitely races that are racist towards black people.

Capitalism and communism are economic systems. Racism involves system of racial oppression or discrimination. In the United States, therefore, black people cannot be racist as a group although they can be individually prejudiced.

Blek people are doing worse in like every metric as the culture becomes more pro-black. The average white household will inherent $15,000, not even enough to buy a new car, so your theory that whyte people have more money than blek people because of the discrimination that their family members faced in the past is not proven. Thank you for asking the question about homophobia in the black community. I personally disagree (and perhaps some did as-well but didn't want to admit it) cos there IS a lot of homophobia in the black community. However, I think that its very nuanced, they're not inherantly homophobic cos of their skin colour obviously but rather they were oppressed and responded with hyper-masculinity and being strong in order to survive. The caveat was that this hyper-masculinity had the by-product of breeding homophobia as a result of stereotypes. The same goes with the Black Church. It's no surprise that black people tend to be more religious. Sociology suggests that disenfranchised individuals in tough situations often turn to religion as a coping mechanism. The church is often homophobic, subsequently influencing black individuals' attitudes towards The LGBT community. This is not just limited to black people but also POC. I've noticed that people of colour tend to also be more homophobic indubitably due to the same reasons.

    I think there needs to be some distinction made between types of racism for them to answer that question about whether black people can be racist. Systemic racism is very different from personal bias/discrimination. Black people in America may not currently have the power on a large scale to oppress other races, but a black person is as capable as anyone else to say or do racist things. And with that type of denial comes a lack of conversation and acknowledgement about hate crimes against Asians in America, for example

    • @itsdonuttime7729
      @itsdonuttime7729 2 года назад

      I sort of disagree that it is not systemic. If a minority person is racist to another minority person/group it is still cementing the fact that the group in question is valued less in society and they "deserve" to get unequal treatment. It still perpetuates the unequal treatment of that person/group. The way that the targeted person/group feels or perceives that treatment might be different than if the privileged group had enacted that bigotry but it still added to the heap. It doesn't outright deny, for example, housing, but it still oppresses the group so that their issues don't get heard and they get psychological harm from it. People don't know that Chinese people face redlining and Indian people get discriminated in the housing market.

    • @1995to2013

    • @shadufr
      @shadufr 2 года назад

      @@itsdonuttime7729 Yeah, I understand what you mean. But when you say “it still perpetuates the unequal treatment of that person/group,” it poses an interesting question about cause and effect that I’d like to learn more about. For example, does discrimination through individual, person-to-person interaction eventually lead to more systemic discrimination through policy in today’s society still? Or do large scale stories or events cause more individual discrimination? Because I definitely think that personal and systemic discrimination go hand in hand, they’re just not the same.
      I’d like to think that in the past, policy often reflected opinion, such as the racist south with segregation laws and such. But in more modern society, it almost feels like huge cultural events cause individual opinions to shift. Like with covid and the increase in anti-Asian hate crimes. I also think that I haven’t been aware of it until recently as I grew up in post-9/11 society, but the increase in anti-Muslim hate crimes as well, after 9/11

And yes there have been movements to police some of the neighborhoods less and have the funding go more towards education as an alternative. Idk if that’s the solution. But it still sounds like a discussion worth having. I just don’t see how the original question asked in the video immediately leads to a defense of polices existence being necessary. When it comes to the argument of who can be racist, I really wish there was a different word- because people misunderstand and think we mean black people can't be prejudiced.
    Can we be racist against someone? Yes, racial bias is the definition of racism.
    Can black people as a whole cause the same impact as white people with our racism?
    No. Institutionally, white people have benefitted too broadly for black people to have an INSTITUTIONAL impact. The institution of racism in America itself was built upon by slavers, who were white.
    The question of racism in its most basic form pertaining to whether a black INDIVIDUAL can be racist versus racism on a NATIONWIDE perspective is different.
    Everyone in America is racist to some extent. But what peoples are actually hurt by this everyday? White people are not, they as a whole are not suffering everyday because someone saw their race. This DOESN'T mean racism against them doesn't exist, but INSTITUTIONAL racism for them does not exist.
    I can fire a white person and presumably(if they dont have criminal records, drug issues, etc), they will bounce back much easier than a black person with a clean record. Even without a clean record, in many states a white person is better off.
    YES, a black person can be racist and cause emotional damage to another individual. NO, black people as a whole cannot hurt white people as a whole with our racism.

    A lot of these comments are implying that just because multiple people have similar/same opinions that the opposing one (typically Adib) is somehow better??? He’s allowed to have different thoughts and while I disagreed many both of the first and this video, I’m not putting him down on it but a lot of y’all are saying everyone else was pressured and he’s the « only brave » one for standing his ground. Who’s to say the others weren’t either? Clearly they did since they all shared their opinions. Like…a lot of y’all aren’t even discussing the content just celebrating because he deviated often…?

    Every race can be racist.
    The fact that almost all of them went to “disagree” just proves how ignorant people can be.
