- This video demonstrates the firing order of the VW VR6 engine
Firing order shown here is 1 5 3 6 2 4.
This engine was/is used in certain models of the following cars:
VW: Passat, Touareg, Atlas, Golf, Vento, Sharan, Corrado, Eos, Phaeton etc
Audi: A3, TT
SEAT: Alhambra, León
Škoda Superb, Porsche Cayenne
For this video it is assumed that the left bank cylinders will sound similar to each other and the right bank cylinders will sound similar to each other, and each bank will sound somewhat different to the other.
12.5 minute Idle simulation of this engine ruclips.net/video/eTWLqTZxiJA/видео.html
Will the VR5 version come anytime soon?
@@SolaricAngel116 he has it in june of 2017.
@@davidfrank6666 It was for the idle video.
Im just amazed that a simple thump from the light 100% ends up sounding like the car
To be fair, Thats basically what an engine noise is. Simple thumps of combustion in a certain pattern.
Absolutely, and you can almost hear an “exhaust note” reminiscent of the real engine
So this phenomenon can be simulate by computer signal modulation has well through code.

Sound like on the Chevrolet Ômega 3.0i engine it's sound Like a Opalas V6 Engine????
Sounds just like a VR6
It is an vr6
@@gabrielvieira6529 no really
Did you read the title?
@@sethwell2552 Of course I did. But seeing that this isn’t an actual engine, but just a program that makes blip noises, I was expecting some discrepancies.
It indeed sounds, specially at idle, from 2000 rpms to 3000 and from 4000 to 6000 is just the same sound.
This entire playlist needs to saved at Fort Knox for when cars go electric.
Better yet, have the guy who made the engine sounds work as a sound designer for electric cars
0:23 Sound like a F1 3.0L NA V10 Engine
Damn the idle sound.....
Yeah
It sounds cool, reminds me of an old MAN lion's city bus engine when idling
Nasty
Sound like a Ibishu v6 engine idle in a beamng
Can you put a 2 Stroke single Honda Biz/Pop 100 engine
This is why vr6s have that gurggly sound just like boxers...all cylinders fire on one bank, then the rest fire on the other bank...
Ellis Jackson That and the way the exhaust ports are shaped too.
Exactly
Gurgly is the exact word to describe it, it's just so MEATY sounding.
William also made a simulation of the inline 6 engines. If you compare that i6's firing order with the vr6's firing order, it is the same, even the pause lengths between the firings are the same, but sounds a bit different. Also he's captured well the reason why sounds a VR6 so gurggly as you wrote: maybe he used a bit differently sounding drums on each bank, but in my opinion maybe he put the microphone closer to the bank which contains cylinders nr 1-3-5, because on real VR6 engine's cylinder head the exhaust ports for cyls nr 1-3-5 are shorter like for cyls nr 2-4-6 - which makes that gurggly sound what is not hearable at i6... Btw, the same exact sound difference is hearable when comparing a VR5 with an i5 because of the same reason: same firing order, same pause lengths between the firings, but non-equal exhaust port lengths in the VR5 cylinder head...
I only used one speaker for the VR engines but used two outputs to go to it, I put resistors inline with one of the wires to simulate the "long" exhaust ports.
I've got a vr6 and this is exactly how mine sounds. Spot on example on firing order. Has helped me a lot actually
The insight I’ve gleaned from your videos has really changed how I think about engine sounds. I’m really happy about that, so thank you. Engine sounds, I have no idea at all why, are really important to me.
I worked at a place once on a busy road. Cars and bikes would rip by all the time. It was so distracting to me that coworkers knew that when a passerby had it floored, to stop talking to me until it was over because they knew I couldn’t listen to both. Time revealed to every person, including my important boss, that I consistently chose the motor sound over the person sound. Sometimes I’d have to rush to the tiny bathroom window to peer through a slit to see what it was. So embarrassing in a professional environment... My disability...
The R1 2009+ video is incredible. I have one and am intoxicated by the bike, and your video. The sound alone is why I freakin’ bought it over any other 1k sportbike. I just can’t get enough.
this man has put into words my love of cars
Fuel runs in your veins. And mine too.
Right at 4k that iconic sound comes out it’s amazing how firing order can change that so much
0:25 True VR6 Sound
So flattered you made one just for us, even though the firing order is the same as a straight six.
no problem, i'm glad the characteristic sound came through of the VRs

one of the best sounding motors ever created
Good old times owning a VW Passat B4 with VR6
Great but it would be even better if you could take into account the fact that VR6 has unequal intake and exhaust ports. It would give it that beautiful, sweet burbling sound.
While the old Subaru WRX had unequal headers and it got its burbly sound from the exhaust, VR6 had unequal ports inside the cylinder head as part of the engine design so it would keep that beautiful sound no matter what exhaust you threw on it.
Combined with this firing order it is one of the sweetest sounding engines ever produced.
It sounds better yet with ITBs 🥴

But why does the right bank sound lower?
Each bank has its own speaker, they sound different
@@WilliamMoser I mean a real engine would sound the same by every ignition, but if all 6 ignitions in the video would sound the same, would it give the vr6 sound, too? Because it seems to be, that the different pitch between the two "banks" makes the sound
@@BrainDeath89 well each cylinder will have its own unique sound really, my I6 video has a seperate speaker for each cylinder. For this engine I used two speakers, one to represent the cylinders with long intake runners and short exhaust runners and one to represent the cylinders with short intake runners and long exhaust runners. Two speakers means you have control over the stereo effect too, this works really well on my V8s where the left bank is biased heavily to the left channel and the right to the right. If I used the same speaker for every cylinder it wouldn't sound like the real deal.
@@WilliamMoser okay, so in real, they sound different, too? So that's why the vr6 sounds different to an inline 6, even when the r6 has the same firing order?
