    In the new sink drain through-hull, it would be a very good idea to add a corrosion-resistant check valve. You've drilled the through-hull in the bow, where it is susceptible to any water crashing against it - leading potentially to water ingress via the sink. It's unlikely that it would ever be a real issue, but I would do so for peace of mind.

    You , my Friend , are amazing . You are adapting modern technology with an old school boat . What a great concept . I have a 40 year old fiberglass Cape Island fishing boat I use for taking my Grand Kids fishing and exploring . You have given me many ideas to modernize my old plumbing and electrical systems . You videos are well recorded and edited and your audio is excellent . Thank you for taking the time to show us all of your work . Very Impressive . Best of luck from Nova Scotia .

    I would strongly suggest you install a “P” trap on the sink outlet to prevent any insects or smells entering the drain pipe and into the sink grate.

    The same is the solution on my boat also! I use an 80 Liters fresh water tank of stainless steel only for drinking water (Coffee, Tea, and so on). For my shower and washing dishes I get water from outside my boat. The difference to your installation is, that the used water in my system does not run outside directly but into a grey water tank 1st, from which it can be either sucked out or alternatively it passes outside the boat through a separate water filter. So the used water that leaves my boat will be coal filterered and cleaned by this way. That's my part making not too much mess into the environment with used water. My toilet is a DIY compostal toilet which does not need any tank but the waste can be disposed into normal household waste container. Only the urin runs into the grey water tank. But anyway, your installation is very intriguing!

    So here I am. I have just binge watched your whole series I think. I am an Ironworker by trade. My wife and I have been thinking purchasing a leisure craft such as your self. I’ve been looking at fiberglass a long time. started out with wood, and said “Oh no”. Because I am an Ironworker, I don’t know why I never looked at steel. Thank you. Steel is so much easier. You gut, repair and then build. I will now be looking for a steel superstructure craft, and go from there. I have been on many retro fits/ seismic upgrades. I got this. Watching you and how you have progressed in this particular craft is inspiring. I wish that some of the apprentices that I work with are as eager as yourself to learn. P.S. I sure am glad your welding skills are improving. Holy smokes!!! I gotta say, I would’ve fired some guys. Lol. No disrespect intended. Like I said, not in so many words, but you have most definitely stepped up your skill set. Wish me luck. Also. Best of luck to you.

    Might i recommend you fit a stopcock valve to the skin fitting in the bow from your sink?. If you are in choppy waters, the bow may dip into waves, and you may end up with the wave water being forced up the open tube and filling the sink, or even getting in to the cabin?. I`ve seen a similar thing on my small yacht, so had to fit a plug into the sink outlet.

    Nice but you will still have pathogens and VOCs coming in to the galley sink. Maybe Look into a UV sterilization circuit. Plus buy a lot of disposable filters, you will be busy changing these filters. Maybe your patrons will fund an “RO water maker”. This is the proper way to have useable fresh water aboard.

  • @salamander5703
    @salamander5703 2 года назад

    Might be worth checking those fittings (2:32). The threads on the filter look like parallel threads which use an O ring to seal on a taper above the top thread and under the flange of the hexagon on the fitting. The fitting screwed down onto the hex which suggests it also has parallel threads. PTFE is only for taper threads into taper threaded holes. You need O rings to make a proper seal if the threads are parallel, or a Dowty sealing washer to seal on the surface of the filter.

    I have a similar system on my narrowboat. I fill my tank with filtered water which runs through a powerful UV sterilisation unit. Not on a boat usage, but for home usage, my system recommends a 3-4 months for PE and 4-6 months for GAC filter (granulated activated carbon) (and 1-2 years for the RO reverse osmosis membrane).

    Yes. UV light is normally effective against all viruses, bacteria and protozoa. However, some microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia have protective or thick cell walls that some low power UV light systems are not able to penetrate. (It is important to make sure the UV light disinfection systems are specifically designed to kill these microorganisms if necessary.)
