Here is a second hack for those mats that have lost there clear covers: turn it inward facing a mat that is already covered with a clear cover and use the one clear cover for two mats by facing both mats inward! Works perfectly.
On the last tip, place a popsicle stick or tongue depressor type stick on the mat under the pen when adjusting the height of the pen. When it touches the stick, close the clamp. It will be exactly the right height without messing up the top of your paper or your mat.
For weeding, I use a pen style x-acto knife. It's so much more comfortable in hand when you're working on something with a lot of detail and, if you're blade isn't as sharp as it could be, you have a sharp blade already in hand to loosen the material and do a quick recut of the lines.
I should be ashamed of myself, my husband got me the Cricut Maker a year ago and I just got it out. He bought all these extra accessories and projects. I appreciate you taking time to share these hacks because old hacks or not you are helping someone out that did not know any of these hacks. So thank you and I am now going to use this Cricut and make things. I subscribed, this is the first video I have seen and am going to watch more.
Someone mentioned buying dental picks for weeding. I mentioned that I used one for this purpose when I was at the dentist and they gave me a handful of them. They recycle them. The best one that I have found has a very small right angle hook on the end which allows you to slightly penetrate the vinyl layer and pull it up and away. It is also great for separating any material from its backing at a corner before peeling. Thanks for your tips!
I turned all of my vinyl scraps into a giant ball. It started out the size of a gum ball and now it's bigger than a basketball and is solid! I just layer it on as I go. I'm trying to see how big I can get it and then one day I will cut it in half :)
Some great tips, thank you! you use a needle pushed in the end of a mechanical pencil if you dont have a weeding tool, and lint rollers can be used to weed intricate cuts like on brush fonts (you may need to rub the roller on your shirt first to make it less sticky) you can also use the lint roller to stick intricate weeds to from your weeding tool.
I crochet and have been looking at crafting stations and I keep seeing these machines and had no idea what they were. Thank you so much I now know and they are rather wonderful.
These are some REALLY great tips!! I'm new to the Cricut world so I'm scouring the internet for these little nuggets of knowledge!! One of the things I discovered online is the use of wood stick beneath the pen when applying a non-Cricut pen to avoid the pen from touching/marking up anything below when inserting. I thought this was a great idea because sizes vary. Thank you for the vid and keep them coming!
Hi! I'm so glad they have been helpful!! :) That is a GREAT idea to put a wood stick beneath the pen to prevent it from marking the paper! Thanks so much..I'll definitely start doing that!
Carolyn Gloria storing vinyl in the ikea bag holder is a convenient way and Organized way to store but beware it can make your vinyl “tunnel” or pull away from the carrier sheet when Unrolled.
Omg I do this b4 I watched thus video I thought I came up with bc I haven’t seen anyone else do it this way lol I actually use two binders. One binder is for Permanent vinyl, glitter vinyl , frosted vinyl, stencil and speciality vinyl like the holographic, frosted vinyl and stencils The second finder is for Iron on and removable vinyl. I have dividers with the tongue sticking out so I can label each section. That way it’s easy to find the glitter vinyl, stencil, removable, ect. For the smaller pieces that could get lost with the larger pieces I will put in an envelope and put it in that storage sleeve. I even have a swim in each binder for regular transfer tape and strong transfer tape. Thanks I’ve organized the scrap pieces this way it makes it so much easier to find places I’m looking for.
I am new to using a circuit maker your information has helped settle down. I am 71 but I am never to old to learn. Thank you for your clear tips on using the circuit maker..
I have a Silhouette Cameo because it uses a computer and my 1700+ fonts and have been using a few of your hacks for years...HOWEVER, After watching your video I have implemented ALL of the remaining hacks in the video in one form or another. I will now check out your other videos. Thanks for the hacks. I was Director of the Printing Department and the Vinyl Sign Department at the Iowa State Fair for 28 years (now retired) and had picked up a few tricks along the way. I have checked out many Cameo and Cricut videos and you get Kudos on your Cricut ideas.
I use the binder for my scraps too however I add a piece of card stock paper in to the plastic sheets. This way I can use one side for the lighter color and the back side for the darker color of each color
One of the best videos I've ever seen on RUclips short sweet to the point extremely useful tips and tricks great great video thank you so much for creating and posting
My daughter boughtme a Cricut Explore air2 as a joint birthday/ Mother's Day present. I am so glad to find your channel and have the chance to have a play. Great tips! New subscriber. 🙂
This was helpful for a fresh owner... I know I need this but I need to learn it... nothing comes with enough directions anymore. Thank you! Answered so many questions.
I went to a local sign shop and bought a handful of scraps for less than 5 dollars to practice on before starting on brand new rolls of vinyl when we first got ours that way I could play without wasting money.
new too.. mine sat for two months because I am intimidated.. I made the design that came with the machine, but for now, watching videos to understand!!
Been there. I bought it and didn't get into it for a month. What helped me to get started was committing to a project, then pouring into the videos. I am outta control now! hahahaha. I, also, didn't try to do EVERYTHING. I just learned how to do a sticker....
I watched this video and then went to Goodwill and they had that exact Ikea holder! i couldn't believe it! Had I not seen this video first I would have had no idea what to use that for!
I'm new to the cricut, and am always looking for great tips for just about anything. I'm not easily impressed by hints and tips but WOW, your tips were ALL very good! Thanks for sharing them!
Wonderful ideas! And I am so thrilled because I use most of them already! Who knew I was almost as smart as Kayla! Thanks for all the helpful hints. Great video, Kayla!
Use removable contact paper to save your mats.. Cut to the inside of your mat. Place it sticky side up. You can then place your adhesive vinyl or fabric on the mat. Protecting your mat. Also contact paper can be use as a cover for your mat.
That was an awesome tutorial. I am new to the cricuit family and the learning curve seems hard, but I think I'll just watch more of your videos. Thanks
What a great video! So helpful! I am going to buy my first Cricut ever 😅 The Cricut Maker - I almost feel overwhelmed by all I can buy 😬 Do you have a basic list you would suggest for me as a beginner..? For the beginning I am interested in vinyl (iron on and normal vinyl) and material. Thanks for the video ☺️
MANY great hacks! Loved the scrapes in binder- I started putting them in a box and now I'm wasting good time in searching for the correct piece--binder will save me time which means.... MORE TIME TO CREATE THANK YOU 🙏🏼📿🙏🏼 Sat Nam
Mary hotmail Simkins thank you!!! Lol!! I used to do something like that until I started putting the scraps in a binder and it makes it so much easier to find what I’m looking for! :)
I put a sticker on the top of my cover sheet so when I put the cover back on the mat I know I’m always getting the same side eliminating any fuzz or hair
Many many thanks about parchment paper. I was experimenting with iron on last night and made an outline of my state, and I didnt want to waste the inside because it was still a nice design of the state, now I can use it!
When my mats are no longer sticky instead of tape I use a tacky spray that's first fabric....works great. And you can buy the thin cutting mats from the dollar tree and spray them works just like a regular mat. If you want to add lines for measurements add those before you spray your mat.
I recently purchased my first Cricut machine and chose to go with the Maker as it has the highest amount of pressure when cutting. I probably over research many things and find myself overwhelmed with information at times(but I can't help it... its an unquenchable thirst I suppose). Back to the point... I have read in many places that if you reapply adhesive to your mats that you void the machine's warranty. It sounds to me like the reason they will not honor the warranty is bc the adhesives that are used to restick your mats can actually flake off and gum up the parts. Would love to know if this is something anyone has experienced.
I used to have a vinyl message on my Cricut so I would remember to change my material. Didn't work I still forgot, so I moved my selector to "CUSTOM" and left it there, this way Cricut asks you everytime what material you are using. I have never ruined anything since. 👍👍
Second alert lol the duck brand clear drawer liner/laminate can also be found at the following stores for no more than 3$. Dollar general, family dollar, dollar tree. Also I have found hundreds of dollars of worth of vinyl,HTV,tools, transfer sheets card stock....ect. The dollar trees also have picture paper and sticker paper around this time of year they come of 4-8 sheet packs. If you loose your weeding tools harbor freight has packs of picks with orange handles that are shorter an have different angle for different projects. An rather that just use a scrapper or a cc to flatten the vinyl I got a rubber mini roller to get every single bubble out it works well for putting screen protectors on iPads or iPhones.
Thank you so much! I have not gotten a cricut yet...can not decide on the Maker or Air (wood & faux leather pieces) but, I have watched some of your video’s & they are very informative.
Also, another great tip I saw from another youtuber. When you first buy your mat, place a sticker on the plastic sheet so you know which side is the top when putting your plastic sheet back on (does that make sense?) *Edit: lol I just saw the comment below and she said the same thing haha*
Well Kayla, it looks like you’re my new best friend! Straight forward helpful tips. No gimmicks, stalling, and unnecessary back stories. Thank you 😊
Here is a second hack for those mats that have lost there clear covers: turn it inward facing a mat that is already covered with a clear cover and use the one clear cover for two mats by facing both mats inward! Works perfectly.
Thank you!
Love! I also saw using a shower Curtin from dollar tree.
Hahhaa I do the same with my mats

My favorite tip is putting water in the glass to align lettering. Ingenious! Tfs!💖!
As a Cricut Newbee, I love all the informational hacks. Thank you!

That slits tip is everything. I wish i knew this when I was working on my teacher's Christmas gifts. I'll definitely use it Valentine's day.
The iron straighter is genius! I was about to buy the heat press for something so small before seeing this! Life saver!
I live in a tiny apartment so I cut all my vinyl into 12x12 squares so it stores flat and saves space ☺️
That's a great idea!!
That's and awesome idea 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I have a question which cricut should I get air 2 or the joy I only wanna decal cup am lost and don’t no what would be the best options for me
Air 2! Once you start cricuting you will want the bigger one!

A ruler length pencil box works great for transporting rolls of vinyl to craft classes or get togethers without crushing or wrinkling them.
Thanks so much for all your tips and hacks. You made it all so easy!
Thanks for the video! I’m new to Cricut and this has already helped me out!

Thank you for all of your videos!!! They are so helpful!!!!!
Also, another great tip I saw from another youtuber. When you first buy your mat, place a sticker on the plastic sheet so you know which side is the top when putting your plastic sheet back on (does that make sense?)
*Edit: lol I just saw the comment below and she said the same thing haha*
Thank you so
Much I’m just starting out so this helps a lot!!!
