Hello from Mexico. We seem to have gotten the comment section back🙂. We have really enjoyed all the travel videos and the Johnny visit. Thanks for posting. We love you guys💘, and Johnny too💖
Hi guys, it's so nice seeing you here, welcome back! 😁 Glad you liked various videos of ours. There are still some trips planned for this year, so travelling is not over yet 😊 Johnny is not planned but you never know 😃
Potato beetles are horrible. Best advice for next Spring is a row cover to stop passing beetles from laying their eggs. I think your harvest won't be too affected, attack near end of season isn't as bad as first of season. Your garden is looking great. Keep having fun.
Hi guys, I went back to "Planting Trees on our Property" from three years ago. What a change! You've done an incredible job and your country house garden looks amazing. Back then, it was a boring field. Now, the more planted, the more wild-meadow, the more beautiful it becomes. Give it another few years and, even with the help of family and friends - and home drying and preserving - you won't be able to consume all the fruit and vegetables. Maybe you should set up a stall at the local farmers' market 🤔❤
Hi Alan, we sometimes too rewatch these old videos just to see the progress in the garden and it's amazing how much it has changed! Haha, sadly we wouldn't have time for standing somewhere at a stall, we barely have time for anything these days. The birds can have the extra fruits 😀
Another wonderful video. The flowers in your meadow are really nice and such a great variety. So many different berries all of which look really good. All the hard work you all did to get them planted is really paying off with a good harvest after a couple of years. In the coming years there should be enough berries to really enjoy. Can't get over how the garlic crop was great. Should be enough garlic to last for a while. The blooms on the pig house are very beautiful and really add to the place and building. Was nice to see Tommy's mom again. Am sure it was a nice visit. It is good that she can visit often. Take care and stay safe. Tony
Many thanks, Tony! It's starting to look like a proper natural countryside garden at some spots which we are very happy about. Also the berries and everything are very nice 😊 Usually we eat our own garlic for the whole year. It's great to have it and usually there are no problems with growing it, yay 😁 When Tommy's mom comes for a visit, it is always lovely and she also helps us in the garden 😊
Hi guys, your garden is looking so good and the amount of berries you get makes me a bit jealous, but having said that I know what hard work you have put into the garden, hope your potatoes gave you a good crop and didn't get to damaged by the insects, as always take care of each other
Many thanks. We love our berry harvest but you are right that overall there is quite a lot of work, even picking them can take quite a lot of time. Looks like Tommy was able to save the potatoes by picking the bugs almost every day, but we'll see when we start digging the potatoes out of the soil 😁
It's great having a nice harvest but it's a lot of work to get there 😁 From planting, to weeding, seeing various plants dying all of a sudden, fighting various pests, then picking and preserving. You'll see if you decide to grow your own goodies. Thank you, Daniel 😊
Your garden also for bees: it's time to help them, but also the butterflies. Well done! that means, protect and love a world in danger. Really a beautiful video, we want it to be titled "I'm with the bees". See you soon R and D 🦋🪲🐝💐🏵🌸🌻
We would like to have such nice titles too. But people would not watch, they want to see negative things and others not doing well, haha 😀 We love having a lot of bees in our garden, they like it here and they can enjoy a lot of various flowers suitable for them. And not just honeybees but also many other kinds of wild bees 💚😊
Just add egg shells into doil around berries and that will help the plants get stronger and will help keep away moles and other insects. Another thing you can spread coffee grounds around all your fruiting plants
Wow, som many tips, thanks. The problem is, we have more than 500 shrubs already and we don't eat enough eggs (and we don't drink coffee). It would be like a drop in the ocean 😁 We have the biggest problems with voles (moles are ok) - they are kinda like field mice, they eat the roots of trees and shrubs...
@tommyandpeter you could always ask neighbors for used coffee grounds, egg shells or check with local restaurants if you could collect eggs shells and coffee grounds. I know here in the states most restaurants will give them away daily.
Thank you, Shelley! We love this time of year when we can harvest so many things. We are picking the potato bugs often so hopefully everything will be ok 😊
Your garden is so amazing. That garlic crop is fabulous. I’ve been buying fresh garlic from a community garden here. Big fat juicy garlic cloves. Thanks for sharing guys. ❤❤
Hi guys! Congratulations on passing 5000 subscribers 🎉. Your garden is looking like a proper countryside garden like an estate or manor house has. I saw online that Russet Burbank variety is resistant to Colorado potato beetles. Stink bugs, lady bugs and birds are said to be natural predators . Maybe put a bird house there? I’m sure you have already seen these online suggestions. Good luck with eliminating them. ❤❤
Hi Greg, thank you 😊 We've seen ladybugs larvae on the potatoes - they eat the eggs of the potatoe beetles but sadly it is not enough by such invasions. There are no other predators here... Our European birds don't like these bugs at all (the beetles are invasive from North America) 🤨
For the potato beetles; combine one cup of vinegar, one teaspoon of liquid soap, and three cups of water in a spray bottle. Shake well and use it to spray your plants to kill nymphs and adults.
We should try it next time but it can be difficult because the bugs and larvae try to hide under the leaves and just a few ones which survive can spread again so fast because they reproduce like crazy 🙄😃
There were quite a few lady bug larvas on the potatoes - they eat the eggs of the potato beetles, so they knew their dinner was ready 😁 But they had no chance to eat everything, the invasion was too big. So picking the beetles was the only quick help. And it needs to be done often.
Having been away for a short time, its nice to be back and catch up with your lives in the garden. I noticed that your perimeter fence shrubs are also growing well and it will not be long before you get the privacy for your garden that you are hoping for. There's lots yet to grow so I look forward to seeing your harvest over the next few months. Regards from Scotland.
Thank you Ian. Yes, every year the fence is getting bigger and bigger, we always like to compare it with previous years. But it is still slow 😁 At least there are more and more berries as a nice reward 😊
I really enjoyed the birdsong in the background in that video, boys. It was lovely and summery. You’ll miss Johnny, but maybe too you’ll need a rest after his whirlwind passed by. He’s a force of nature, for sure. Nice to see your mum too, Tommy. You’ll have no fear of vampires this autumn, what with 43 cloves of garlic. Best wishes from Ireland, where finally we’ve had some sunny summer weather, Stefan x
Thank you 😊 We definitely need a rest so we've been enjoying these relaxing days in the garden, also it was nice when Tommy's mom came for a visit. Yes, we are not afraid of vampires at all 😀 Glad you've had sunny weather, we've been getting warm days lately too 😊
Returning to every day life is always a reality check but it is what allows us better appreciate different moments. Amazing the flowers and the fruits. My greetings to Eva, whenever she can helping you. Did you give her any garlic or fruit? To combat the Colorado beetles, Neem oil is usually used here, in the form of spray. It's organic and biodegradable but that doesn't mean that is completely harmless. You need to get proper advice about it. Kisses guys always bringing joy to our Thursdays.
You are right about the reality check, Liliana. Still, being in our garden at the country house is better than real real life in the city and being at work... Tommy's mom is always a good help, we like when she comes for a visit 😁 She got something but she also has a garden so she has a lot of fruits and veggies too 😊 Thanks for the tip, we can read more about it but we like to keep our garden as natural as possible, in harmony with nature 😊
Not sure if it would work for the Colorado beetles but we can try next time... Once there is an invasion it is really difficult to get rid of them and the most effective is to just pick them every day.
@tommyandpeter they are a small animal similar to a chipmunk with eat bugs and carry their young in a pouch like a kangaroo. They are adorable and love people. We have raised them for years. Old down side is the males scent gland can be over powering. So after they mate I move the males to a cage in garage. They need to stay inside during winter. But I leave ours outside once spring arrives and the eat all types of bugs but love Beatles
Hi guys! I remember well when I was just a little child that I used to kill potato bugs with my late grandfather, I enjoyed killing them what may sounds like a problem, but my grandpa told me that.I also liked playing with the rain worms or whatever they are called.
Hi Dora, that sounds about right. There is nothing better to do with the bugs than to kill them 😁 We used to pick them as kids too. Sounds like you had fun in the garden 😊
Gorgeous looking and bet tasting as well. Just wanted to ask you if you water your shrubs or do you just leave nature to take care of them hence they’re covered with straws which usually keep moisture in the soil? Amazing once again 👏👏👏😍😍😍❤❤❤
Hello, we try to water them when it's too dry but not very often because we have already more than 300 shrubs and it takes a lot of time to water them all. The mulch from grass clipping or straws is exactly for what you said, it keeps the soil around the shrubs wet for longer 😊 Yes we still have the flat, we have to return to the city regularly because of my (Peter's) full-time job, sadly not allowed working from home like Tommy.
I'm surprised you have golden flowered currents. I am from the state New Mexico in the United States. Golden flowered currents are native here and are grown as an ornamental and for wildlife but not for their fruit.
We aim for a natural mixed hedge along all property lines with many various shrubs and bushes, so not all of them have to have fruits for us. We planted a few of these golden currants mainly under trees, because they grow lower. Birds can have the berries or if we feel like it, we can have a few too 😊 Greetings to New Mexico 😉
Didn't realize you were breeding beetles :p This is why you need chickens - such a waste to just throw away those beetles... I have some alpine currants growing wild. They are, indeed, not sour, but I don't care for the taste so I don't think I'm going to pick them :(
So interesting, you are the second one to mention chickens, but our Central European chickens don't eat these Colorado potatoe beetles. But they would eat our veggies and fruits. From what we know, there are no efficient methods against these beetles, you just need to pick them, or use chemicals. There are these other methods that people mentioned (like coffee, soap, ashes) but they never work 100% and a few missed beetles would mean thousands just a few days later. Also they haven't worked for anybody we know.
Almost gave me heart attack guys with this title, I imagined tornado, super cells all kinds of nastinees from natural forces.. and yet there it was a potato Goldy beetel ( krumpirova zlatica), did not remember english name. My grandmother would wake up every morning at 4, had her coffee at 5 she would go to garden with deep bucket to water plants and another deep bucket in wich she would put the beetle and feed them to hens or toss them to nearest ant hill, I watched for hours how ants devour them( sick I know), or would just leave bucket on the sun in the middle of potato field, (big enough so they can't get out), eventually or birds or larger insects would eat them or ants would sniff them, and patrol field for them every day, so ants in future would hunt them in potato garden.. so she did not have to bother with the any more.. Btw blue round fruit we call them brusnice, the reason why they give you weak fruits is probably coz grass around them is too high and it chokes sun, try to short the grass or walk on it around shrub until it is down. I have 3 shrubs of them and soon as I removed grass around it, it was full of fruits. Btw the hibrid here is called jošta and it have 8 times more vitamin c than a lemon. When I heard that I forced myself to eat them, they taste strange to me. And black berries I like the most when they are between being black and green, don't know why. Same with raspberries lol.. The yellow meadow flower comes in 3 different colours I think. It mix with other flowers, I saw bluish violet, white and yellow. But also there is similar yellow flower, not sure is it the one you have or other, with is almost like meadow weed, it is little poisonous for animals it can irritate the skin or throat.. but that one I think is mostly in woods coz it needs more shadow environment.. When we saw you uploaded we hurried up with making supper, so we had curled batat fries with paprika, hard cheese in olive oil and cucumber with soar cream while we watched this.. every Thursday I am like I need to Finnish making food before you upload lol.. fail every time.. Btw tommy's mum reminds of my mum or any mum here, do Slavic women of that age looks same all over our countries, short hair, sneakers, one hand always on hip like they are always observing and are rdy to show how something is done or to scold you lol...
Hi, luckily not such a big catastrophe. It's just a game with the title for RUclips, people like to check out negative things 😀 So interesting that ants would eat these beetles. Not here, here they don't have any natural predators. Only ladybug larvae eat the eggs but that's it.... So the only option is to pick them. Btw. they are not brusnice, these saskatoon berries are from North America, mainly Canada (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amelanchier_alnifolia) and they can be quite big trees not just some small shrubs like brusnice. The tayberries are not josta, they are completely different (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tayberry), they are sweet and similar to raspberries. We will show Josta berries next time, we have them too 😁 Sorry for so many corrections, hopefully you don't mind 😁 Your dinner sounds yummy 😊 You are probably right about Slavic women and Tommy's mom 😃
@@tommyandpeter I think the ants don't eat them naturally. But ants are "intelligent", I think they felt attacked when bucket filled with the was dumped on their house, so I guess they learned they are threat so they would seek for them in a proximity from their ant hill. But I do know ants will eat the larvae. Adult they kill, not sure do they consume them.. Aww Miron was right lol. No I don't mind corrections I don't have an issue to be correctrd when I am wrong or to admit I was wrong, well at least if I am not in relationship with person who corrects me lol... now I just need to swallow my pride and say urm babe you were right it was not jošta and that other thing is not brusnica.. but it looks same or do I need glasses? Tayberry is something like dud here, but not same, dud is mulberry I think.. when I said brusnica did not mean on that one but on small blue ones, round ones.... But Amelanchier is same like jošta at least in video.. the fruit looks same.. well I am sure I would die from poisoning out in the wild coz all the berries looks same to me lol...
@@tommyandpeter roflmao.. omg I mixed brusnica and borovnica. Brusnica is cranberry and borovnica is blueberry, one is small round and red other is round and blue.. well all in all I was wrong. Big fail(at least now I know that I am not just partially blind on one eye, seems I am blind on both eyes roflmao 😂😂😂). Miron sends his greetings back and gloating in same time.. his hole face says I was right...
I like his modesty. The pelergoniums look kind of nice.
I immediately thought they look very nice.
That's Tommy, always modest 😊

When we saw you uploaded we hurried up with making supper, so we had curled batat fries with paprika, hard cheese in olive oil and cucumber with soar cream while we watched this.. every Thursday I am like I need to Finnish making food before you upload lol.. fail every time..
Btw tommy's mum reminds of my mum or any mum here, do Slavic women of that age looks same all over our countries, short hair, sneakers, one hand always on hip like they are always observing and are rdy to show how something is done or to scold you lol...
Hi, luckily not such a big catastrophe. It's just a game with the title for RUclips, people like to check out negative things 😀
So interesting that ants would eat these beetles. We will show Josta berries next time, we have them too 😁 Sorry for so many corrections, hopefully you don't mind 😁
Your dinner sounds yummy 😊 You are probably right about Slavic women and Tommy's mom 😃
You probably need glasses 😋 Greetings to Miron 😁
@@tommyandpeter roflmao.. omg I mixed brusnica and borovnica. Brusnica is cranberry and borovnica is blueberry, one is small round and red other is round and blue.. well all in all I was wrong. Big fail(at least now I know that I am not just partially blind on one eye, seems I am blind on both eyes roflmao 😂😂😂). Miron sends his greetings back and gloating in same time.. his hole face says I was right...
Put a few chickens in the garden, they will eat the bugs in no time.
Our European chickens don't eat these Colorado potatoe beetles, but they would eat our veggies and fruits. So, that doesn't sound very efficient 😀
Have you met the Czechgaytwins? They were interviewed on RUclips by Art B. a few days ago.
Sounds great but we are not interested in these things, sorry 😀
Not interested in the husbands.
Ok 😂
why did you click on the video?
I don't think they are interested in you either.
