    This is incredible, I am currently writing my aerospace engineering dissertation and it is focused around planned VLEO constellations, it’s amazing just how beneficial VLEO can be to telecommunications if companies can make it profitable (not to mention more sustainable as the satellites de-orbit themselves). Thanks ESA you’ve definitely given me more to write about!

      If Musk hadn't been so ambitious, it wouldn't have happened any time soon, like everything the mad physicist did. It has not yet become anything other than a Tom and Jerry cartoon for dreamers.

    It is amazing but what about all the space junk already up in orbit. We need to get this cleaned up.

    • @samhinchliffe5273
      @samhinchliffe5273 9 месяцев назад +26

      One of the main benefits of very low earth orbits (VLEO) is that the satellites in these orbits are ‘self cleaning’! They have such a low altitude that they actually experience significant drag unlike most satellites at a higher orbit, so a constant low power propulsion is needed to keep them in orbit, and as soon as that propulsion system is turned off they will deorbit themselves usually in hours!

      @@alexandrugheorghe5610 yeah this is an issue ESA will have to solve, but I think SpaceX have now got pretty good at making their starlink satellites un-reflective so I’m sure they can do the same

    • @alexandrugheorghe5610
      @alexandrugheorghe5610 9 месяцев назад

      @@samhinchliffe5273 yeah, I've to be honest I haven't followed the developments of SpaceX regarding making their satellites un-reflective. Haven't heard anymore complaints about it.

      @@samhinchliffe5273there are thousands of defunct satellites that have been de orbiting for decades and are still there. The ones you're talking about are the new ones going up there now like starlink and they need to be de orbited before the fuel runs out.

    The design of very low orbit satellite aeroshells is very interesting, do you have schemes to support master’s or PhD level thesis research for this?
