This needs a follow up video about scars - what they do to your skin, what cells are involved and why they can stay around for years or your entire life.
I'm pretty sure scars are just the cells that can't be replaced. They're a result of your dermis being destroyed in that area. The way they were earned determines if it's raised or lowered. Basically, if you have a wound like a cut it will likely protrude. If it's something like an infection scar or from bulging skin it will shrink into the body. It'd be like your skin trying to stitch itself back together by contracting or building tissue around the area that's missing.
that's a great idea. scars leave me very fascinated, i once remember i got my face scratched by one of my Grandparent's old dog when i was just a lil' todd, and the mark on my face has been there ever since teenhood.

I would say apart from Informational clips, science (study of a Process), daily current affairs, entertainment, jokes, mainstream narratives, propaganda, lies, etcetera if you're interested in Theology, Purpose of Life, Reason for Creation/ Existence should have a look at this - First thing which should be considered is that THERE has to be one Absolute Truth/ Objective Reality (100%) [regardless of what different scientists, ph.ds, doctors, philosophers, societies, religions, cultures, individuals, etcetera believe]. Your medicine and biology series is convincing me to take better care of my body and helping me break self destructive habits, right up to self-harm, which I've been struggling with for half my life. actually it is so mesmerisingly beautiful, nothing compares. It has in-store a cure for a disease that isnt even discovered yet, i mean it mutates itself and adapts to bacteria it hasn't even found, not even by our ancestors. I know this might sound stupid, but seriously, having been exposed to this channel and watched a lot about immune system, I started to love myself more and more and appreciate my body like never before as I’ve been suffering from depression and nothing could make me motivated. Yet these mere educational scientific videos can. Those tiny cells fighting for me do make me feel bad about my past suicidal thoughts. No joke

I have a feeling that would deter some potential costumers. Perhaps if you could guarantee you only use harmless inks, although I'm not sure what exists currently as I remember hearing all of them are potentially problematic. *EDIT:* it seems some people thought I was suggesting he shouldn't inform potential customers of the possible dangers of tattoos. That wasn't the case, and I personally don't consider having tattoos. I was just pointing out I felt the video would be deterring to customers, in case he only saw the cool parts about it being a person with great interest in tattooing. It seems from his later replies he is aware of that.
My last tattoo artist had a poster up in her corner with a bunch of the basics behind what a tattoo is and I think it's a great idea! It's a great way to deter people who haven't researched the process ahead of time/great conversation for those of us who did! I chatted with her for like an hour in the chair about different dyes and why they last longer than others etc.

I was recently diagnosed with lupus, a pretty harmless version, that, at least for now, only affects my skin, but has a small chance to get worse. I would love a video about autoimmune diseases like lupus and why the immune system would turn against it's human.
Can I ask you how you got tested and narrowed it down to lupus? I have a mystery illness/disorder that seems auto immune and most of the symptoms, but apparently my blood work so far says it isn’t autoimmune…..but anyways, I was curious how many steps it took to finally get a diagnosis
@@extragoogleaccount6061on average it takes like 7 years to be diagnosed. There’s certain criteria and you have to have over ten points in bloodwork markers + other symptoms. Most patients have a positive ANA. There’s a debate about whether ANA negative lupus exists or if it’s just a “lupus like disease” but the ANA is just the beginning, anti-dsdna, anti-am,anti ssa/ssb, complement tests etc. can help narrow down a lupus diagnosis.
This actually blows my mind by knowing the fact that a group of macrophages protect you against all odds and they are reason why your tattoo doesn't fade away but these are the minute things which we ignore and never appreciate our body efforts. This is super-interesting. My wife has an autoimmune condition. She has attempted tattoos twice, and neither of them lasted more than six months. She went back to the artist for a third attempt, and he apologetically told her that there was nothing he could do for her which would be more permanent that what he'd already done. He offered a refund, but my wife noted that he'd done his part, and wasn't responsible for her internal biology.
I’m a tattoo artist and this video is great! I like to talk about how our tattoos evolve and how our immune system respond to protect us from pigments and other problems but it’s even better with visuals. I’m sure it will be a great video to watch with my clients!

I used to have panic attacks and depression. As soon as I tattooed my arm with the words BREATH, THIS TOO WILL PASS, my panic attacks decreased dramatically like one every six, eight months instead of three per week. I am thankful

When I have those hard days a reminder of the beauty and good helps keep me from spiraling. Mine represents my family and how even when you feel like you’re in a void they’re there. It also represents those that I have lost. Many times when stressed I will trace the lines of it and it calms me. I completely understand why people don’t want one and not understanding those that do. But making a generalization like that is ignorant.

Same. I’m getting Henna only. And using waterproof eyeshadow to make it colorful. And waterproof eyeliner to make the brown henna into black. So I’m just coloring the top of my skin and not going any deeper into my skin. Plus it’s much more safe. Now that I know what tattoos do to a body. I’m still going to say to anyone if they ask me the question if they should get tattoos, I’m sending them this video. And then say what I’d do after they watch the video. Or, get fake tattoos that can are waterproof and fade away after 3 weeks.

It’s a ver personal decision. I find the tattoo machine very traumatic for the skin (not in an emotional level, mind you), so that’s why my tattoos are made with the hand poked technic. It’s just one needle handled by the artist themselves, kinda like they’re drawing with dots. It’s doesn’t hurt at all, and they heal faster. But then again, you have to be sure about what you’re getting tattooed. If you’re not 100% sure, then leave it be!

@@17moonlily Pretty much depends on the person and their skin, but, for some people, it can take 5 years, for some 10, for some even more But you can try, at the summer time when it's 40C Temperature, if you don't use any creams, sun will burn you so hard, and well destroy tattoo pretty much.
@@17moonlilythe tattoo as a whole won’t completely disappear! rather, fading is just when the shapes and colours can lose definition over time. For example, ink may look greyer, some colours may be less vibrant/change slightly, and lines that were once fine and crisp can look a little blurry. Edit: this fading may be accelerated by improper care e.g. not wearing sun protection
Why not go into a STEM field? Found passion in tattooing or sone other unfortunate circumstance? If the latter: you can still do it! I study for a BsC degree with a path to med school after years of drug addiction. WHY?: Kicked it off cold turkey, opioids. Still use sometimes, but manage to keep it under wraps. Got hooked because of some not-so-appropriate oxycodone prescribing(3+ months of 37.5-80mg oxy/day with the 1st month being an IV drip, 2nd month and one week IM injections and then 20mg oxycontin once in the morning, once at night with 4x10mg oxynorm pills during the day. Then they suddenly dropped me to 2x5mg oxynorm a day, turned to buprenorphine to ease the extreme withdrawals. This felt like a walk in the park compared to the oxy wds.) Edit: dosage correction
Another reason to think twice about getting a tattoo is three letters M R I. I have a full sleeve and two smaller tattoos. The sleeve was done in 2004 and the other two smaller ones in the late 1980's. In 2017 I had my first MRI due to a life-threatening infection that was migrating to my brain. The MRI tech told me not to move so although all of my tattoos were getting hot, I didn't move or say anything. After my emergency surgery which I had a few days later, I notice my arm started killing me. I had gotten third degree burns on all of my tattoos, my sleeve being the most damage. That is how I found out that the tattoo inks that were used contained heavy metals and the MRI machine tried to remove those metals from my body. My arm was swollen, inflamed and small lumps appeared. It was agony. I was treated with antibiotics and steroids for a month. To this day you can see the burn scars on that arm and it is now larger and slightly deformed compared to my right arm. I had to go back to the emergency room twice because the pain, inflammation and small lumps came back and that was in 2019 and 2021. I was treated with antibiotics and steroids again. I can't imagine what would have happened to me if my tattoo was a chest one. Be warned and make sure you know what inks are being used. You never know if you will need an MRI in the future.
@@PasMille Thank you. Whenever I'm out I try to share my story to let people know to be careful. My tattoos may have been done a long time ago, but some places still use that type of ink. One woman who had recently gotten a tattoo had to have an MRI and said when her neck tattoo started feeling hot, she screamed and they stopped right away. Thank goodness.
Thank you for sharing! And I hope you’re ok! Had multiple MRIs done, and they only asked if the tattoos were done in the past 6 months. So I’m not sure if there is not enough knowledge on their part either on the subject, or if both the technology and inks are different now. Luckily I didn’t have any of this symptoms happening, I’m also not heavily tattooed.
@@aleSoareDon't bank on the past 6 months thing. In the future one should speak to their tattoo artist and read the labels of the inks to make sure before you get one. They all don't get their inks from the same supplier. When I speak to the MRI and CAT technicians (they sometimes rotate between the two departments), doctors and nurses at my hospital they all say the same things. That they learn about it but have never met someone that it actually happened to until they met me. They also never asked patients if they were tattooed beforehand but will start and will ask the patients if they are experiencing any warm areas during the MRI scans. Believe me when I tell you I am so happy to know that this didn't happen to you.❤❤❤❤
Your immune system will always protect you, but it shouldn't deter you from enjoying the body that you have while you have it in this short life. You just have to make sure the person you go to for said tattoo cares about safety as much as you do and dont skip on aftercare once the procedure is done 😊
I use to want one when I was younger; even had an idea drawn out. My wife (gf at the time) wanted a tattoo as well but it just never happened. Thirty-two years later and I lost interest in getting one but my wife still wants to get a little one and my younger child who is turning 18 wants one to represent her family. I am going to have them watch this video just to make sure they understand what's going on as this is definitely something you want to be sure about. I've seen some ragertful people in my time; I'd prefer not to be married to one as I have at least 20 more years to hear about it.

You should check out someone called Medical Medium! He talks about how our immune system is always there for us and how it never goes against itself. further he talks about we can support it with tools he provides in his books like the heavy metal detox smoothie to remove the ink in our blood with ingredients in the smoothie, of which there has been lots of studies on that they do remove metals. I've always wondered how tattoos work, since the skin is constantly replacing itself. The most I knew is that it was injected directly into the dermis to keep it from being shed off. I had no idea it was actually the immune system itself keeping the tattoo in its perfect shape! Humanity sure does know how to best manipulate our body to do the things WE want it to.
A friend of mine has a few tats. He got his first one done by a nonprofessional. It looked great. Within a couple years, all of the red was back to normal skin color. The blue faded heavily, and the black outline is all that's left. Its starting to look like dotted lines. He got cancer at that same time. Cancer is gone now. Im never getting a tattoo

I had a skin cancer diagnosis about six months ago (I'm cured for now at least) but during the examination on my back, they said they could see blue amongst the colours in the melanoma. This surprised me as much as them. I did suspect my tattoo, which contains a lot of blue colouring might have appeared in the cells as they got replicated. I just wasn't sure how. Now I've seen this video, my question has been answered. My tattoo is in my body at a cellular level and not just my arm (unless the blue was from my eyes) Thanks Kurzgesagt 👍

This makes so much sense. I was diagnosed with an auto-imune disease right after I got my first tattoo. I’ve always had this disease but was never aware of it. The tattoo caused it to react though. Luckily now it’s under control again.
An auto immune disease is when your bodies defense systems attack itself. Stress and trauma can cause some of them, like Crohn's or vasculitis, to present themselves.
Searched it online, but basically, the immune system also attacks healthy cells when attacking the "enemy", so the the immune system of the person will create even more damage

As someone who has an auto immune disease but is tattooed I have to be so careful and make sure I’m not having a “flare up” when having them. I can’t get many and it sucks but better off in the long run ❤
A accidentally gave myself a tattoo on the knuckle when I was 17. I accidentally tagged myself with the disc of an angle grinder (my dad would remove the safety guards). Long after the the deep abrasion healed it had a blue/black colour, not sure what the "ink" was. I guess bits of grinder disc, metal or paint? After more than 20 years It still hasn't fully faded, but now I know why it's still there! Awesome video as always Kurzgesart!
I doubt that it's metal as metal works its way out of the body. But it's also a slow process so it may have just not worked its way out yet. It's crazy how it happens. As ex-military and metal workers will tell you that the metal can work its way out 1 of 2 ways. The first is you'll go to pop a pimple and notice metal coming out. The other is you'll wake up and just notice a piece or pieces of metal in the bed. Yet you won't see any exit wound or anything on the skin, that indicates where came out. It's pretty fascinating.

Ah now i get why my husbands tattoo artist (who is known in the area for being extremely cautios about sanitary and health safety) refused to tattoo me and recommended not doing it at all. The fact aside that i'm allergic to PPD, which is not in the tattoo paint he uses, after seeing my other allergies (turpentine aka fragrances, metals, benzocaine, etc, all being contact allergies) he told me that i must be sick rarely, but when i am, i'm over the top out of it. And yeah that's true - plus my body temperature is naturally nearly 1 C° below average, so what other consider a slight fever makes me feel like i'm cooking inside. Well, he told me that my immune system is overdoing it, literally taking out machine guns to fight off flies. So giving me a tatoo, even avoiding my allergy triggers, would throw my immune system into world war mode and could cause serious - if not permanent - damage. I didn't really get how a tattoo could do that, i guess now i do. Dang, and i really wanted a full back tattoo all my life.
OMG not a full back tattoo! That would probably be horrible for you. I got a tiny tattoo and I was fine, but most of my friends who got full back tattoos had fevers after each session (because of course, your immune system starts acting up), so with all your issues with your immune system that would be a very, very bad idea.
Are there ways to train your immune system to react more normally? Like taking big doses of vitamin D while keeping an eye on calcium, or maybe by exposure? Good luck!

But now we have common meds or other treatments to keep this down. Curious if country to country variations in avg body temp would teach us anything about this.

Yeah, if you react to the colour, then it might indeed still activate your immune response 15 years later. After all, the colour is still there. You might really want to start thinking about getting rid of it. I never reacted to mine, but I decided to not have it 'repaired'. It looks blurry now after 20 years, but I'm ok with that.
I’m allergic to nickel, so every now and then certain colors in my tattoo flare up and get a little puffy- sort of like a hive. It goes back down and is fine after, though. It’s usually blue or sometimes black.
That’s a chemical reaction to specific metals. Hence why at the beginning of the video, they listed three common metals often found in tattoo ink. Good reason to figure out which of the three your body is highly allergic to and it’ll explain why this happens.

1:44 Tattooing the epidermis is exactly what makes Henna body-arts so useful! It is deliberately temporary, so that you can forget about it once the party is over and the dead layers are shed and replaced by new batch of skin cells.

It's also a reason why a tattoo can give health problems over time too, as the metals can slowly be released into your body, and depending on what it's made up of it can be deadly. As there has been cases of cheap ink using all sorts of things to give it color. If you want one and be relative safe then there should be black colors that doesn't need any metal to give it color, though start with a tiny one, and never get it done on a trip or vacation as you have no idea what is in the ink.
I just want to know what about 'far worse things enter your body on a daily basis' scares people away from 'your cells just hold the ink in place'. I genuinely don't understand what about this makes tattoos scary, when it just explains how the cells hold ink in place. Are you never going to walk again, because you might skin your knee when you trip and fall one day? That would be the exact same bodily response to a little needle jabbing you. Except you get MORE germs in a larger wound. Cut yourself while cooking, or sewing, or anything else normal? Far worse things happen in your body, then a few cells just holding ink in place. People must have been deaf and blind for the first half of the video where this is explained that what tattoos cause in us is something we deal with on a daily basis anyways - foreign bodies being fought off inside of us. Media literacy is at an all time low for real.

Meh, just don't be one of these folks that does full-body or massive sections of filled in black ink and you'll be fine. Also go to a locally trusted tattoo parlor, there's probably one near you and there's likely someone in your area you can talk to who knows which places are good.
I've always been on the fence when it comes to getting a tattoo. Most of the people I know have tattoos with great sentimental value attached to them, be it about remembering loved ones or representing a difficult time in their life that they overcame, etc. Meanwhile, I could only ever come up with tattoo ideas referencing video games I liked. After learning how much trauma I would have to put my poor immune system buddies through in order to get a tattoo, I'm especially glad I've held off on getting one.
I honestly would wait till you're at least 25 minimum. (neuro-normalcy). I only have one and I got it at 27. After you get one, you get the urge for desiring more. My best friend's dad got his first at 57. There's no rush!
There's no harm in waiting a few months to see if you still want the same one you might be thinking of. What's a few months in the span of having it for your entire lifetime?

I'm pretty sure scars are just the cells that can't be replaced. They're a result of your dermis being destroyed in that area. The way they were earned determines if it's raised or lowered. Basically, if you have a wound like a cut it will likely protrude. If it's something like an infection scar or from bulging skin it will shrink into the body.
It'd be like your skin trying to stitch itself back together by contracting or building tissue around the area that's missing.
That would be an interesting idea that could also cover how getting stitches would affect a wounded area

As a tattoo artist this is fantastic information, I might make it a requirement for new clients to watch it right before the tattoo.
I have a feeling that would deter some potential costumers. Perhaps if you could guarantee you only use harmless inks, although I'm not sure what exists currently as I remember hearing all of them are potentially problematic.
*EDIT:* it seems some people thought I was suggesting he shouldn't inform potential customers of the possible dangers of tattoos. That wasn't the case, and I personally don't consider having tattoos. I was just pointing out I felt the video would be deterring to customers, in case he only saw the cool parts about it being a person with great interest in tattooing. It seems from his later replies he is aware of that.

My last tattoo artist had a poster up in her corner with a bunch of the basics behind what a tattoo is and I think it's a great idea! It's a great way to deter people who haven't researched the process ahead of time/great conversation for those of us who did! I chatted with her for like an hour in the chair about different dyes and why they last longer than others etc.

Most patients have a positive ANA. There’s a debate about whether ANA negative lupus exists or if it’s just a “lupus like disease” but the ANA is just the beginning, anti-dsdna, anti-am,anti ssa/ssb, complement tests etc. can help narrow down a lupus diagnosis.

This is super-interesting. My wife has an autoimmune condition. She has attempted tattoos twice, and neither of them lasted more than six months. She went back to the artist for a third attempt, and he apologetically told her that there was nothing he could do for her which would be more permanent that what he'd already done. He offered a refund, but my wife noted that he'd done his part, and wasn't responsible for her internal biology.

When I have those hard days a reminder of the beauty and good helps keep me from spiraling. Mine represents my family and how even when you feel like you’re in a void they’re there. It also represents those that I have lost. Many times when stressed I will trace the lines of it and it calms me.
I completely understand why people don’t want one and not understanding those that do. But making a generalization like that is ignorant.
When you are depressed and wanting to end it all, remember that your body every cell of it is rooting for you to live. Do not let them down 😊

Same. I’m getting Henna only. And using waterproof eyeshadow to make it colorful. And waterproof eyeliner to make the brown henna into black. So I’m just coloring the top of my skin and not going any deeper into my skin. Plus it’s much more safe. Now that I know what tattoos do to a body. I’m still going to say to anyone if they ask me the question if they should get tattoos, I’m sending them this video. And then say what I’d do after they watch the video. Or, get fake tattoos that can are waterproof and fade away after 3 weeks.

Very good decision to NOT get tattoo! I applaud you! I'm so happy to NOT have tattoo and NEVER will get one. Tattoo is NOT cool and is NOT beautiful. It is disgusting and ugly.
It’s a ver personal decision. I find the tattoo machine very traumatic for the skin (not in an emotional level, mind you), so that’s why my tattoos are made with the hand poked technic. It’s just one needle handled by the artist themselves, kinda like they’re drawing with dots. It’s doesn’t hurt at all, and they heal faster. But then again, you have to be sure about what you’re getting tattooed. If you’re not 100% sure, then leave it be!

But you can try, at the summer time when it's 40C Temperature, if you don't use any creams, sun will burn you so hard, and well destroy tattoo pretty much.
@@17moonlilythe tattoo as a whole won’t completely disappear! rather, fading is just when the shapes and colours can lose definition over time. For example, ink may look greyer, some colours may be less vibrant/change slightly, and lines that were once fine and crisp can look a little blurry.
Edit: this fading may be accelerated by improper care e.g. not wearing sun protection

Why not go into a STEM field? Found passion in tattooing or sone other unfortunate circumstance? If the latter: you can still do it! I study for a BsC degree with a path to med school after years of drug addiction.

Kicked it off cold turkey, opioids. Still use sometimes, but manage to keep it under wraps.
Got hooked because of some not-so-appropriate oxycodone prescribing(3+ months of 37.5-80mg oxy/day with the 1st month being an IV drip, 2nd month and one week IM injections and then 20mg oxycontin once in the morning, once at night with 4x10mg oxynorm pills during the day. Then they suddenly dropped me to 2x5mg oxynorm a day, turned to buprenorphine to ease the extreme withdrawals. This felt like a walk in the park compared to the oxy wds.)

Another reason to think twice about getting a tattoo is three letters M R I. I have a full sleeve and two smaller tattoos. The sleeve was done in 2004 and the other two smaller ones in the late 1980's. In 2017 I had my first MRI due to a life-threatening infection that was migrating to my brain. The MRI tech told me not to move so although all of my tattoos were getting hot, I didn't move or say anything. After my emergency surgery which I had a few days later, I notice my arm started killing me. I had gotten third degree burns on all of my tattoos, my sleeve being the most damage. That is how I found out that the tattoo inks that were used contained heavy metals and the MRI machine tried to remove those metals from my body. My arm was swollen, inflamed and small lumps appeared. It was agony. I was treated with antibiotics and steroids for a month. To this day you can see the burn scars on that arm and it is now larger and slightly deformed compared to my right arm. I had to go back to the emergency room twice because the pain, inflammation and small lumps came back and that was in 2019 and 2021. I was treated with antibiotics and steroids again. I can't imagine what would have happened to me if my tattoo was a chest one. Be warned and make sure you know what inks are being used. You never know if you will need an MRI in the future.

@@PasMille Thank you. Whenever I'm out I try to share my story to let people know to be careful. My tattoos may have been done a long time ago, but some places still use that type of ink. One woman who had recently gotten a tattoo had to have an MRI and said when her neck tattoo started feeling hot, she screamed and they stopped right away. Thank goodness.

Had multiple MRIs done, and they only asked if the tattoos were done in the past 6 months.
So I’m not sure if there is not enough knowledge on their part either on the subject, or if both the technology and inks are different now.
Luckily I didn’t have any of this symptoms happening, I’m also not heavily tattooed.
But how..? I'm covered on tattoos, never had a problem. Healthy at a 100% levels, I do sports, healthy food, hope tattoos don't kill me by now 😂
@@aleSoareDon't bank on the past 6 months thing. In the future one should speak to their tattoo artist and read the labels of the inks to make sure before you get one. They all don't get their inks from the same supplier. When I speak to the MRI and CAT technicians (they sometimes rotate between the two departments), doctors and nurses at my hospital they all say the same things. That they learn about it but have never met someone that it actually happened to until they met me. They also never asked patients if they were tattooed beforehand but will start and will ask the patients if they are experiencing any warm areas during the MRI scans. Believe me when I tell you I am so happy to know that this didn't happen to you.❤❤❤❤

Your immune system will always protect you, but it shouldn't deter you from enjoying the body that you have while you have it in this short life. You just have to make sure the person you go to for said tattoo cares about safety as much as you do and dont skip on aftercare once the procedure is done 😊

I use to want one when I was younger; even had an idea drawn out. My wife (gf at the time) wanted a tattoo as well but it just never happened. Thirty-two years later and I lost interest in getting one but my wife still wants to get a little one and my younger child who is turning 18 wants one to represent her family. I am going to have them watch this video just to make sure they understand what's going on as this is definitely something you want to be sure about. I've seen some ragertful people in my time; I'd prefer not to be married to one as I have at least 20 more years to hear about it.

You should check out someone called Medical Medium! He talks about how our immune system is always there for us and how it never goes against itself. further he talks about we can support it with tools he provides in his books like the heavy metal detox smoothie to remove the ink in our blood with ingredients in the smoothie, of which there has been lots of studies on that they do remove metals. I don't have a tattoo myself but I have dealt with depression, and had metal exposure through other events, and his info has completely changed how I feel and how I go about my day

I've always wondered how tattoos work, since the skin is constantly replacing itself. The most I knew is that it was injected directly into the dermis to keep it from being shed off. I had no idea it was actually the immune system itself keeping the tattoo in its perfect shape! Humanity sure does know how to best manipulate our body to do the things WE want it to.

It looked great. Within a couple years, all of the red was back to normal skin color.
The blue faded heavily, and the black outline is all that's left. Its starting to look like dotted lines. He got cancer at that same time. Cancer is gone now.

I had a skin cancer diagnosis about six months ago (I'm cured for now at least) but during the examination on my back, they said they could see blue amongst the colours in the melanoma. This surprised me as much as them. I did suspect my tattoo, which contains a lot of blue colouring might have appeared in the cells as they got replicated. I just wasn't sure how. Now I've seen this video, my question has been answered. My tattoo is in my body at a cellular level and not just my arm (unless the blue was from my eyes) Thanks Kurzgesagt 👍

This makes so much sense. I was diagnosed with an auto-imune disease right after I got my first tattoo. I’ve always had this disease but was never aware of it. The tattoo caused it to react though. Luckily now it’s under control again.

An auto immune disease is when your bodies defense systems attack itself. Stress and trauma can cause some of them, like Crohn's or vasculitis, to present themselves.
Searched it online, but basically, the immune system also attacks healthy cells when attacking the "enemy", so the the immune system of the person will create even more damage

As someone who has an auto immune disease but is tattooed I have to be so careful and make sure I’m not having a “flare up” when having them. I can’t get many and it sucks but better off in the long run ❤
A accidentally gave myself a tattoo on the knuckle when I was 17. I accidentally tagged myself with the disc of an angle grinder (my dad would remove the safety guards). Long after the the deep abrasion healed it had a blue/black colour, not sure what the "ink" was. I guess bits of grinder disc, metal or paint? After more than 20 years It still hasn't fully faded, but now I know why it's still there! Awesome video as always Kurzgesart!

I doubt that it's metal as metal works its way out of the body. But it's also a slow process so it may have just not worked its way out yet. It's crazy how it happens. As ex-military and metal workers will tell you that the metal can work its way out 1 of 2 ways. The first is you'll go to pop a pimple and notice metal coming out. The other is you'll wake up and just notice a piece or pieces of metal in the bed. Yet you won't see any exit wound or anything on the skin, that indicates where came out. It's pretty fascinating.

Ah now i get why my husbands tattoo artist (who is known in the area for being extremely cautios about sanitary and health safety) refused to tattoo me and recommended not doing it at all.
The fact aside that i'm allergic to PPD, which is not in the tattoo paint he uses, after seeing my other allergies (turpentine aka fragrances, metals, benzocaine, etc, all being contact allergies) he told me that i must be sick rarely, but when i am, i'm over the top out of it. And yeah that's true - plus my body temperature is naturally nearly 1 C° below average, so what other consider a slight fever makes me feel like i'm cooking inside.
Well, he told me that my immune system is overdoing it, literally taking out machine guns to fight off flies. So giving me a tatoo, even avoiding my allergy triggers, would throw my immune system into world war mode and could cause serious - if not permanent - damage. I didn't really get how a tattoo could do that, i guess now i do. Dang, and i really wanted a full back tattoo all my life.
OMG not a full back tattoo! That would probably be horrible for you. I got a tiny tattoo and I was fine, but most of my friends who got full back tattoos had fevers after each session (because of course, your immune system starts acting up), so with all your issues with your immune system that would be a very, very bad idea.
Are there ways to train your immune system to react more normally? Like taking big doses of vitamin D while keeping an eye on calcium, or maybe by exposure? Good luck!
Average body temp has fallen by about 1C in the last century (I think it's 36° now) so you might actually just have average body temp

But now we have common meds or other treatments to keep this down. Curious if country to country variations in avg body temp would teach us anything about this.

Yeah, if you react to the colour, then it might indeed still activate your immune response 15 years later. After all, the colour is still there. You might really want to start thinking about getting rid of it.
I never reacted to mine, but I decided to not have it 'repaired'. It looks blurry now after 20 years, but I'm ok with that.
I’m allergic to nickel, so every now and then certain colors in my tattoo flare up and get a little puffy- sort of like a hive. It goes back down and is fine after, though. It’s usually blue or sometimes black.
That’s a chemical reaction to specific metals. Hence why at the beginning of the video, they listed three common metals often found in tattoo ink. Good reason to figure out which of the three your body is highly allergic to and it’ll explain why this happens.

1:44 Tattooing the epidermis is exactly what makes Henna body-arts so useful! It is deliberately temporary, so that you can forget about it once the party is over and the dead layers are shed and replaced by new batch of skin cells.
People get tattoos BECAUSE they are permanent so henna art isn't really a replacement for getting tattooed.

It's also a reason why a tattoo can give health problems over time too, as the metals can slowly be released into your body, and depending on what it's made up of it can be deadly. As there has been cases of cheap ink using all sorts of things to give it color. If you want one and be relative safe then there should be black colors that doesn't need any metal to give it color, though start with a tiny one, and never get it done on a trip or vacation as you have no idea what is in the ink.
I'm so happy to NOT have tattoo and NEVER will get one. Tattoo IS poor life decision.

I just want to know what about 'far worse things enter your body on a daily basis' scares people away from 'your cells just hold the ink in place'. I genuinely don't understand what about this makes tattoos scary, when it just explains how the cells hold ink in place. Are you never going to walk again, because you might skin your knee when you trip and fall one day? That would be the exact same bodily response to a little needle jabbing you. Except you get MORE germs in a larger wound. Cut yourself while cooking, or sewing, or anything else normal? Far worse things happen in your body, then a few cells just holding ink in place. People must have been deaf and blind for the first half of the video where this is explained that what tattoos cause in us is something we deal with on a daily basis anyways - foreign bodies being fought off inside of us. Media literacy is at an all time low for real.

Meh, just don't be one of these folks that does full-body or massive sections of filled in black ink and you'll be fine. Also go to a locally trusted tattoo parlor, there's probably one near you and there's likely someone in your area you can talk to who knows which places are good.

I've always been on the fence when it comes to getting a tattoo. Most of the people I know have tattoos with great sentimental value attached to them, be it about remembering loved ones or representing a difficult time in their life that they overcame, etc. Meanwhile, I could only ever come up with tattoo ideas referencing video games I liked.
After learning how much trauma I would have to put my poor immune system buddies through in order to get a tattoo, I'm especially glad I've held off on getting one.

Once you get one tattoo you realize it's not a big deal at all. I love all my dumb tattoos.
I honestly would wait till you're at least 25 minimum. (neuro-normalcy). I only have one and I got it at 27. After you get one, you get the urge for desiring more. My best friend's dad got his first at 57. There's no rush!
There's no harm in waiting a few months to see if you still want the same one you might be thinking of. What's a few months in the span of having it for your entire lifetime?
