If you don't want to be killed & eaten, don't eat killed animals.
Smooth Criminal say that to the lion that just killed the zebra
@@bjfifi
No, because lions are obligate carnivores & lack moral agency.
So does that mean too much vegetables is dangerous too? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for vegetables, but does the perfect diet means the right amount of meat and vegetables, or does it mean veggies only? Would really like to start a conversation about this.
@@purple1441 Too much vegetables is still dangerous because some the vegetables you are eating is just equal to the meat we are eating, at least that is what I know.
Both of my grandparents are 80 + years old and they both have eaten meat on a daily basis their whole life. Neither of them suffer from any of the diseases mentioned in the video. However they both consumed organic products 99% of the time, some of the food was produced in their farms free from pesticides or chemicals and the meat they consumed was from cage free hormone free chickens, goats, and cows fed organically. I guess food quality as well as lifestyle and genes play an important role in how long we will live.
(Dr Sten Ekberg also mentions the importance of organic feeding in the cattle's beef quality in his video Top 100+ Healthy Foods You Must Eat)
I believe its mostly our diet and lifestyle that have the biggest contributing factor to how old we grow, not so much on the genetic side of things, but I do believe genes are a very small part of it.🙂
Meat is very good for you, it just depends on what you eat with it, and other conditions you might have that might effect people. Your grandparents must be very smart and healthy people :D
That doesn't mean anything. Your parents are in the minority. Studies show that people who eat a lot of animal products tend to be at higher risk for many diseases. There are people that smoke all their life and live to 100. Does that mean that smoking is healthy? Studies > anecdotes
@@lmarose0123 This isn't true at all.
Meat causes cancer is a massive myth.
It’s what we do with it such as processing, smothering in oil etc. Meat itself is good for you and we evolved our brains by eating it.

The dairy industry is very ominous tbh. They PAID for the former Canadian food guide to push dairy products instead of following the actual science and they mistreat animals AND their workers. Three words pus and blood.
ever since I had my first period I suffered from Iron deficiency and I've used iron pills for years. I've tried being vegetarian but it didn't work when I lived in Turkey cause the nutritional products that I had to buy were really expensive. I've been living in Germany for 6 months now and I can't say that I'm a vegetarian but I have a plant based diet 95% of the time. When I travelled to Turkey after 4.5 months of being in Germany, I had a blood test done to see if I lack iron. Turns out my iron has risen like never before and I feel completely healthy and not bloated or uncomfortable because of trying to digest the meat.
Great explanation!

I think it's important to emphasize that when they say meat increases your risk for some disease by 19%, that doesn't mean if your current risk was 1%, it's now 20%. It's 1.19%.
When people hear that statement, "increases by 19%", they think (MyCurrentRisk)+19. Not (MyCurrentRisk)*1.19... which is what they should be thinking. Relative risk is a hard concept to grasp for a lot of people.
Well, most ppl think math is useless so its really no surprise they can't understand the difference between additive and multiplicative percentage increases lol

Also the % are useless information to us, we don't know what they correlate to, 29% higher chance of cancer could be anything, if the original chance was 1% then it's now 1.29%, or it could be full on 29%, or even 0.0029%
The info is meant to sound alarming, it's meant to scare us, but in reality the numbers have no meaning on an individual person, it's only meaningful on a society scale, and only when all of the numbers are proven, and explained.
@@MarkSKristensen Great point. My willingness to take an additional 29% chance from 0 is way way different than an additional 29% from 10.

I've been vegeterian for the past 4+ years(I still eat fish every once in a while) and honestly I feel pretty normal. But the fact is even before I went full on, I didn't like meat at all(which in my country is considered very weird) so it wasn't that hard for me to switch.
But I think it really depends on your taste, habits, surroundings and sime other factors whether you will consume a lot of meat.
And honestly, I don't judge people who eat meat, because as Kurzgesagt pointed out, it has its health benefits. Heck, even within my own family there are people on both sides and we still sit down and eat on the same table.
I just wish non-vegeterians would treat me the same way too and I stop recieving weird looks when I tell other people I don't eat meat, because it's really annoying.
So, you occasionally supplement your diet and you still feel pretty good, have you tried full Vegan?

Thank you for the video. How about microplastic in fish? I'm curious.
The comments tell me "what processed meat actually is" deserves it's own video lol.
Nowadays, whatever that is not a fresh whole cut steak is processed, fish and poultry included. See Wikipedia.
In nutrition, "processed" basically means that you remove something good and/or add something bad. Grilling, boiling, steaming, chopping, refrigerating, freezing etc. are not among the things that makes something processed. Adding additives (except for spices) makes something processed. Including adding oil, sugar and/or salt (although it becomes a gradient at very low volumes). Removing good things, like going from a whole grain to refined, or a whole orange to orange juice (i.e. removing most or all fibers) also makes something processed.
When you cut a slab of meat directly out of a dead animal without any other process it's "unprocessed". Things like freezing/thawing are borderline as they can alter the structure of the meat but don't change its nutritional content.
If you're looking for things to avoid pre-cooked or cured meats are generally considered to be the worst. When cooking meat it's best to render away excess fat while avoiding over-cooking or burning, meat-fumes are also potentially hazardous and should be avoided as much as possible.
Literally almost ALL prepackaged, precooked meat is processed.
Cured and smoked meats are the most obvious examples, but often it is just the shitload of preservatives that are added to make it last longer.
Basically the only way around it and still enjoy things like sausages is to find a butcher shop that makes them raw, or straight up pre cooks them without any preservatives. In other words, you somehow got to track down a local butcher shop that has the proper equipment.
They didn't even explain that only processed meats with artificial preservatives are the ones that are dangerous. So basically, those are any meat in cans, tetra packs, and some in jars.
I don't think homemade processed meats are dangerous because those artificial preservatives are not really handily available for anyone. And that's why I will keep on making my homemade sausages, luncheon meat, and cured ham.
I love that you guys take “controversial” topics and break them down in a very non-biased manner. Keep up the great work

I think it’s nearly impossible to be eating all minerals and vitamins from vegetarian foods as you get away from the equator. The number of colored vegetables (other than green) reduce to paprika, eggplant, berries, oranges and may be 5 more vegetables or fruits depending on the area u live. This is not the case in tropics with so many lentils and other tropical fruits and vegetables that are found in plenty and are a staple food and not a low level exotic product. This is what made me shift to eating some meat once in a while as I shifted from India to Germany.
If someone knows how to get all the nutrients without consuming meat are more than welcome to advise me as your research could be superior to mine and I would really love to avoid the rubbery taste as much as possible.
I've lived in Finland for 8 years and have been plant-based for around 6. Yes, the variety of veg and fruits available is less but it's still more than enough to get all the nutrients (assuming you also eat grains, healthy fats and protein along with it). Lots of berries, mushrooms, root vegetables and legumes are locally grown. Bell peppers, tomatoes, avocados etc. imported. You should have even more fruit/veg available in Germany. Lentils and rice are cheaply available everywhere. There's plenty of vegan products in market today and they're usually fortified with vitamins, including B12. Try tofu, tempeh, seitan, soy and pea protein products, soy/oat milk. 'Superfoods' like chia seeds, flaxseeds, hemp are easy to add in a plant-based diet. If you eat a variety of these and enough calories of food, you should be good.
Something I think we need to see on this channel is a video on how Autism works since a lot of people are really misinformed on it.
They TOTALLY should make one about mental disorders!

Well, they really widened the spectrum lately (hency why the ''massive'' increase in autism cases we've seen recently) so now the term ''autism'' include a lot of syndrome and impairment which were for decade earlier not considered to be such. Where can I get non-processed meat?
*Definitely not from school lunches.*
Bruh that ain't meat
FUN FACT: you get more nutrition eating horse shit than school meals
Literally on what you get. I look for meats without nitrates and nitrites. Applegate is a good company and more companies are hopping onto the no nitrates/nitrite train
Hunting there's a big difference in the taste I heard.
At one time one could find a farmer/rancher where you would knew how it was raised and buy a yearly calf or pig then have it slaughtered for the freezer. You couldn't have four hams, but it was fresh and less expensive.
Great video!
a curious mind want to know . how many days its take to make one video like this ??
That esacaled quickly in the end, switching from meat to animation
Yeah, very smooth transition
In addition to dairy, please make a video about fish in regards to mercury, plastic, and fishing practices.
They literally say "we'll talk about that in another video" at 3:20-ish
Taking 50-200 fish out of water per YEAR is perfectly fine for the lake. As it keeps the population low enough for food to be common in the water and that fish can get bigger than 500g-1kg. I hate those people that "farm" salmon and such. Place them in tubes and feed them. I fucking hate these guys, the fish becomes shit, those fish are being tortured and such.
And I am from an area where processed foods aren't very common.
Personally (and this is purely my opinion) I think fish farming , MOST not all the fish you see in your grocery store doesn’t have the microplastics you see in fish in the wild. Especially tilapia my favorite, is kind of a man made fish and I think it’s the next chicken!
@@AliyahScottaliascott The plastic does not do very much in low doses, as does anything. I mostly fish from lakes/rivers, and the worst thing I have seen was a mouse (Yes a WHOLE mouse) In a trouts mouth. I do not release fish unless they're below 150g. Then they become larger the next year and are better to eat. Releasing fish seems like a waste to me unless they are a burbot. All the fish in my area are Edible, this is useful to me, as If I catch a decent sized fish I will take it home and fillet it.
And what does Tilapia taste like?
@@kulturertbaker5371 where do you live that has such a abundance of fish. Do you need a fishing/hunting license for that. My state Tennessee has plenty of creeks rivers and lakes but you need a license for sure.

I felt a certain uneasiness, not in the speech but in the pictures. I am quite opposed to vegetarianism in its ethical conception and more generally the nature-human relationship where we always seem to want to make animals close and "nice", where we see wild domestic animals, the fact for some activists where we hear that they want to stop all animals from eating meat (I noticed that this was restricted just for preys where there is emphaty), which scares me.
@@hidokun9145 This video is about the health side of it, how did you feel uneasiness?
@@hidokun9145 What do you even mean, this video is centred across the topic of the effects of eating meat on the environment and the factors that support it, how does uneasiness from the depiction comes in the rational facts?
Fish is one of the worst things to eat. They eat soft plastic. The big chemical in soft plastic leeches into the meat if the fish. This ruins your immune system
I was going to shit on the lack of annotated sources in the video but then I checked the actually source file in the description. I really appreciate the due diligence on showing a source for each claim made.

My dad was raised with a high meat diet, so as a result we're a lot more carnivorous than most, I suppose. Eating a meal without meat is rare.

try to cut down on the meat and eat more veggies as a little experiment and you will see the benefits

The only thing I hate in any health related video is the use of percentile increase. An 18% increase doesn't mean your 2% becomes 20%. It means your 2% becomes 2.36%
Explains why increases in small numbers can affect hundreds of millions of people in the video.

im not gonna claim to have on hand numbers but for a while in my life i was eating a lot of Mediterranean food and one thing i realized, aside from the fact that they make some of the best food on earth, is that they use a lot of subsitutes for meat in lots of foods
like falafels and stuff, which doesnt directly replace meat or taste like meat, but does taste good and has a "similar" consistency if thats the right way to put it
i also ate a lot of lamb in like gyros and stuff and man it tastes so good, but generally theres way less of it than in american meals
people often claim the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet and ill stand by it in my experience it was great food that made me feel great afterwards

You can still eat chicken, just get it from sustainable sources that take animal welfare seriously. I do that for ALL my meat, including red meat. That automatically reduces the amount of meat you consume, which benefits everyone.
