    I think it's important to emphasize that when they say meat increases your risk for some disease by 19%, that doesn't mean if your current risk was 1%, it's now 20%. It's 1.19%.
    When people hear that statement, "increases by 19%", they think (MyCurrentRisk)+19. Not (MyCurrentRisk)*1.19... which is what they should be thinking. Relative risk is a hard concept to grasp for a lot of people.

      Also the % are useless information to us, we don't know what they correlate to, 29% higher chance of cancer could be anything, if the original chance was 1% then it's now 1.29%, or it could be full on 29%, or even 0.0029%
      The info is meant to sound alarming, it's meant to scare us, but in reality the numbers have no meaning on an individual person, it's only meaningful on a society scale, and only when all of the numbers are proven, and explained.

    But I think it really depends on your taste, habits, surroundings and sime other factors whether you will consume a lot of meat.
    And honestly, I don't judge people who eat meat, because as Kurzgesagt pointed out, it has its health benefits. Heck, even within my own family there are people on both sides and we still sit down and eat on the same table.

    I suffered from metabolic syndrome (obesity, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood sugar). I went whole food plant based no sugar or oil and low salt and I lost 65 pounds, all my conditions greatly improved, my gums stopped bleeding, and erections and energy returned. I used to have an appetite that was never satisfied; whole foods cured it. I no longer use a sleep apnea machine. Finally, the food is cheap-Beans, lentils, sprouted flourless grain bread, rice, oats, potatoes and seasonal apples. Also, I save money by not having to buy pills or visit the Doctor. I am thankful to all the vegans who suffered attacks to reveal the truth to me.

      @Muskar2 5 лет назад +11

      In nutrition, "processed" basically means that you remove something good and/or add something bad. Grilling, boiling, steaming, chopping, refrigerating, freezing etc. are not among the things that makes something processed. Adding additives (except for spices) makes something processed. Including adding oil, sugar and/or salt (although it becomes a gradient at very low volumes). Removing good things, like going from a whole grain to refined, or a whole orange to orange juice (i.e. removing most or all fibers) also makes something processed.

    • @SubjectE57
      @SubjectE57 5 лет назад

      When you cut a slab of meat directly out of a dead animal without any other process it's "unprocessed". Things like freezing/thawing are borderline as they can alter the structure of the meat but don't change its nutritional content.
      If you're looking for things to avoid pre-cooked or cured meats are generally considered to be the worst. When cooking meat it's best to render away excess fat while avoiding over-cooking or burning, meat-fumes are also potentially hazardous and should be avoided as much as possible.

    • @e1357
      @e1357 5 лет назад +3

      Literally almost ALL prepackaged, precooked meat is processed.
      Cured and smoked meats are the most obvious examples, but often it is just the shitload of preservatives that are added to make it last longer.
      Basically the only way around it and still enjoy things like sausages is to find a butcher shop that makes them raw, or straight up pre cooks them without any preservatives. In other words, you somehow got to track down a local butcher shop that has the proper equipment.

    • @reinebautistamercado4286

      They didn't even explain that only processed meats with artificial preservatives are the ones that are dangerous. So basically, those are any meat in cans, tetra packs, and some in jars.
      I don't think homemade processed meats are dangerous because those artificial preservatives are not really handily available for anyone. And that's why I will keep on making my homemade sausages, luncheon meat, and cured ham.

      Processed meat has been classified as definitively carcinogenic, with plutonium and asbestos. However, it should be noted that this classification is misleading since you need to eat kilos of process meat every month for years to see an increase the cancer risk of a few percent. As for plutonium, you touch one gram of it and you are dead in a few days at best. It is a weird way of classification, I think.

      It depends on what area you live in to. For instance, if you live in a spread out city, your not gonna see many of those people because you don’t connect with them. On the other hand, in a densely populated city, or close neighborhood, you may see more of these people regularly. Also puberty and bad parenting/schooling can cause a person to change a lot in their teens.

      I think that a lot of choices in what people eat comes down to convenience, taste and morals. I, personally, am vegan, but I don’t condemn or shame anyone who isn’t. I don’t think the world will ever be entirely vegan, but I do hope the way animals are treated in the food industry changes.
      However, the people around me who do eat meat regularly are so unhealthy and have so many complications and yet continue to eat the same stuff, even though they’re aware of the fact that it is killing them slowly. I would rather just eat the way I do and continue to feel good physically and morally! It’s all a matter of perspective in the end.

      Here is an excerpt from a 2003 article on hazards of heavy metal contamination:
      "The general population does not face a significant health risk from methylmercury, although certain groups with high fish consumption may attain blood levels associated with a low risk of neurological damage to adults. Since there is a risk to the fetus in particular, pregnant women should avoid a high intake of certain fish, such as shark, swordfish and tuna. Fish, such as pike, walleye and bass, taken from polluted fresh waters should especially be avoided."

      Fish is one of the most dirty things ever nowadays. Various chemicals, heavy metals and plastic concentrate in its flesh and regular consumption of it can have deleterious effects on us.

      maybe for grown adults it’s fine, but i think the concern with mercury is more for pregnant women, and not even all fish. i think it’s for the fish that are more likely to have higher concentrations of it like tuna

    If my experience in the Military is anything to go by, a good balanced meal (especially for intense exercise) will have protein, carbs and vegetables. An example would be Samoan, Corn and Broccoli. Another good meal could be something like Pork Chops, Potatoes (or macaroni) and Asparagus. It is also pretty good to eat fruit like an Apple or Pear once or twice a day.

It’s more informative than giving an opinion, and shows both sides of the argument without making one side look intentionally better than the other. It also doesn’t leave out important information (at least it seems like it) that could change the argument, such as the fact a study may not be entirely accurate.
