"Good night, Chesty!" is the sign off for US Marines, especially the Old Corps. Lewis "Chesty" Puller is the most decorated Marine in American history and reached the rank of lieutenant general. He passed away in 1971.
He only had 5 navy Crosses! LOL It was his leadership that made him the legend that he is. He asked nothing of his men he didn't do himself and he always led from the front. He embodded Gung Ho and Semper Fi. I am humbled to have had the honor of wearing the same uniform as he.
My buddy came up with this cadence. It ended with "The ground will shake, thunder in the sky. But don't you worry, don't you come undone. It's me and Chesty Puller on a PT run".
@John Smith Roger that. But even greater is that they fought their way out ! I need to do some digging, because I have always heard that they were outnumbered 10 to 1.
Wow. That song doesn’t hold any punches. Then again, neither do the Marines. They go places they know damn well will be the last place they’ll ever see. Thank you USMC. This nation owes you what she can never pay.

Hi, Don! There's another Marty Robbins song I think you'd enjoy that's very timely. From 1966, it's an anti-communist song called "Ain't I Right?" and it's great. Marty Robbins, yes, you were right.
I am a former US Marine 0311 of 8 years here. Please look into a reaction to former President Ronald Reagan “A time for choosing” speech. The military tribute video is preferred and amazing. Semper Fi brother, and thanks.

As a U.S. Marine, we have a very close professional relationship with the Royal Marines who were our progenitors. Awesome reaction, great video! I have relatives who were Navy and Army, and I mean no offense when I say this, but of all the veterans I have spoken to, often times a Marine is the most easy to spot, for all the best possible reasons. #No more talkin, let's go # veterans battle still rages.
Our Marines are the most fierce men and women on the planet. I’m betting they’re waiting for their chance to get back to achieving that peace through strength. God willing, it’s coming soon. I will sleep better at night when we’re not being pushed around by other countries- even the likes of France, because these bad ass marines stand between us and anyone that intends to do us harm. Thank you for your sacrifice for our right, our kids rights and their kids rights to live free.
Though there is a friendly ribbing between the Navy, and the Marines (they technically fall under the same branch of the military here in the US), it should be telling that one of the most revered cadences in the navy is the Medal of Honor Cadence. That cadence, it tells the tale of multiple Marines who have gone on to win the medal of honor.
Having thought about it for 20 years my opinion is what makes Marines different is the fight or flight reflex turns into only fight reflex. When you are cold, you are hungry, you are tired, you are even scared, your reflex is to fight. People think we are invincible tanks. We are not. We are so human. It's just when we get hurt, tired, and even scared we choose to fight.
