I’ve learned a great deal from watching your videos. I’m a 17 year amateur sawyer. That is to say, I have been sawing lumber for 17 years. I’m approaching 70 years old. Anyway my lumber yield from most any given log is better from watching your channel (& some others). Thanks for videos guys.
Nice Mark - Ginkgo is a very old species of wood. Ginkgo Biloba Leaf is a very potent natural med for brain and mental function, mitochondrial and nerve cell function, Chinese used this for thousands of years, did not know that tree grew in USA :) nice snack in more ways than one LOL 😊
Thanks lads! Always great when there's a bit of South African in your videos... even if it's just about ten seconds music at the end! A wee snack to end a snack video!! 😁😁
As usual. Great video. This species has been on the planet for at least 290 million years. It’s the last of its species. First one I’ve ever seen milled. Thanks!
Good to see you. It is too bad that it was a little soft but you got something out of it. If it was warm out, I would like to cut up my branches and clean up more of my wet land. Good to see you. 😀😀😀
Hi guys, Carpenter & Joiner here in the UK. I wasn't familiar with Ginkgo so looked it up & it's Eddie wasnt exaggerating with the oldest Tree, I found this info on the Forestry Forum. Ginkgo: The Tree that Lived with Dinosaurs The hardiest of street trees, the ginkgo remains unchanged from prehistoric times. Already ancient when dinosaurs walked the earth, one species of tree survives virtually unchanged into the space age. Defying air pollution, disease, and insect infestation, just as it has for 150 million years, the ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) flourishes along city sidewalks and thoroughfares in the United States and other temperate regions of the world. To the ginkgo, 20th-century perils dont stack up to those of past millenniums. Drifting continents failed to destroy it. So did the alternating climatic cycles of tropical temperatures and frigid ice ages. Unlike its contemporaries, the ginkgo defied death. It also stopped evolving as far back as the Paleozoic era, appearing today as it did in prehistoric times. By the time man began migrating and populating the planet, though, the ginkgo had retreated from its once-global range to the mountain forests of eastern and western China. There it thrived until the early 1700s, when explorers brought seedlings to Europe. In 1784, the ginkgo was introduced to America. In China, ginkgo yielded its wood for carving, and the nuts of its somewhat foul-smelling fruit (that only the female tree produces) for toasted treats. However, in ginkgo's new lands, it makes the ideal ornamental and the hardiest of all street trees. When you see it, remember that you may be viewing what some scientists believe to be the living link in the evolution of ferns to trees.
I got a Ginko given to me in 2021. It was a 24 inch tree at the base. I made lures from it and it sat on the ground for 4 months and splated. I made some nice lures from it.
Biggest/oldest gingko I ever saw (about 900 years old ) may be seen near a major shrine in Japan. Diameter about 1.5 meters at the base and 12 meters tall. I grew one in my garden from a pencil sized seedling planted in 1986 , now 7 meters tall even after being topped during the "derecho" windstorm a dozen years ago.
Half past five in the morning thems decent boards coming off the mill never heard of ginkgo before looks like a soft wood , todays job putting a new floor in a barn inch an a quarter boards neighbor only had a leg amputated about two month ago he’s diabetic like me , nice easy job knocking nails in sitting on the floor , the joke is first time he hit it he missed second time he hit it in the same place, any way you guys have a nice day
I don't know wat you feel about it Mark, but sure as he'll that's a weird timber, from wat I so you had no problem with it, I would freaked out for sure lol!
I always wanted to saw a ginkgo. There was a place in Johnstown, Pennsylvania that had three big ones in a row and I wanted to get them, but they took them out and I never had a chance. But I always wondered what kind of lumber they would make.
A nice tasty snack with a new morsel to try.... You have to love that. As soon as you said "crotch" Grandpa said "stress". Great minds must think alike. Of course experience helps too. About how many years have you been sawing Mr. G?
That wood producer should have sacrificed more of the crotch and left it in the woods . However , nevertheless you did a fantastic job of making the best of it ! 👍👍
I see Mr. ZZ Mark took some time off from all that milling around he does down there, maybe the operators of the 'Bunk and Graybar Breakfast' joint he's currently staying at will give him some 'Time Off' for good behavior. When ZZ does Time, does he just go over to Eddie's channel? Is Eddie thinking about changing the name of his channel to 'Graybar Time With Gray Beard'?
I have been trying to find Eddie's email bc I was wanting to talk to him about some lumber but I can't seem to find it and I've commented on a couple of his videos that I was looking for it but I haven't heard back from him
I use to get an "A" on my science project leaf collection because that tree is so rare. My father had one in the yard where he worked. its a shame to see a perfectly healthy one cut down when they could have used other woods that are more available.
Very nice snack Video...man glitter & a Boom😎😎👍👍Mark, twice now I have a Reply from you to "message you on telegram"?? If that is not you, there is a fungus among us.....
Hi Mark & Ed. Beautiful lumber. Reminds me of white pine. You both have a good weekend. 😍😊😉👍❤️💜🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

thanks Robert , it's our first to mill.
Their leaves have a unique shape. The University of Missouri-St. Louis had some on their campus. That is where i saw Ginko for the first time. ❤❤❤
Pretty neat Mark. Makes me wonder if I've sawn it before. Good job sawing it.
thanks Jason.

Great job Mr. Galicic! I watch and enjoy your channel very, very much.

A nice tasty snack with a new morsel to try.... You have to love that. As soon as you said "crotch" Grandpa said "stress". Great minds must think alike. Of course experience helps too. About how many years have you been sawing Mr. G?
thanks Anthony , I have been sawing for 32 years now.
That is the biggest "ginko" I have ever seen! Most are like shrub size.

What did it smell like when cutting it? Curious as heck!
Ginko tree goes back to biblical times very old tree don’t see them very often my uncle has a beautiful one in his front yard

Mmm good.

this was from a tree service.
Interesting, Mark. Any idea how weather resistant it is?
Bill
I hear it is very weather resistant.
That's so different that log
this is our first one.
Where the heck did a ginko log come from? I've never even seen it.
from a tree service , a yard tree.
Johnny ginko seed!!
How can I get a piece of that wood? And where did you find it?
please email me at markgalicic@verizon.net , we got it from a tree service.

Never heard of a Ginko tree. What are the positive properties of it?
not sure.
What is that wood used for
not sure but it's very soft maybe good carving wood.
