Who do you think has the best retro bike? Are you stoked for retro week?
Doddy
Doddys! Short handlebars look awesome.
@gmbn did you even give neil a memo about what to wear? hahahaha he seems like was on a vacation for a month and didn't get a new uniform on his return hahahha ni job guys... bring in sam pilgrim and his 4wheeler!
I'll give Blake my vote cause he went full squishy!
Yes!! I said this earlier but I'd be more stoked with a retro month
Edit: Doddy's bike is best, Neil's 2nd and Blake's just disappointed me, it was awful
I’m actually impressed with doddy’s car park skills, wasn’t expecting that 👏🏽
and clipped in too...
If you saw the first game of bike with doddy his skills on the stairs with the big bike was a bit of a giveaway :)
Came here to say this
He's old school, he's in his 40's now and lived in MTB when dicking about was in its prime. People didn't have vigorous training routines, they found some dirt, made some jumps, and just fooled about with their mates after school each day. Kids had to improvise with their bikes a bit too. If you wanted to race DH, you grabbed your trusty XC hardtail and with some parts from your LBS's discount bin, you pretended it was a DH bike.
@@Metal-Possum damn u should make a movie lol
GMBN - The Top Gear of MTB (The old Top Gear, obviously)
I only own a retro and this video made me feel more confident about having one, and made me care less about the weird looks i get when shredding it on my trusty retro fully
I have a retro rigid and i feel much better about riding mine after watching this. I gave up looking cool last week and decided to just ride it lol
Owned many old bikes and still have an early Zaska LE.. cant knock some of the old bikes especially when you can (or could!!) get them cheap.. .
“I’ve got dual suspensionization” is my new favorite phrase 😂
Oh man this is like the old Top Gear. I want mooore!!
Love these challenges do more of them 🤟🏻
Edit can you do another sends of the month
He shook hiscan
Blake shouts so loud he's picking up on everyone's microphones!
I LOVE the details in this video, especially the 4:3 aspect ratio
Wow didn't know how skilled Doddy is! Neat! Want to see more of his riding!
It's going to sound weird, but Doddy is the most unassuming rider on this channel. If that makes sense. He's rarely seen showcasing his skills, but he's an absolute monster :)
I think the Marin is a beautiful design. Fugly is in the eye of the beholder. Impressive style and skill from Doddy in the car park! Very cool 😎
This is really what GMBN does best, just show the joys and fun of MTB. Don't take it too serious and have fun!
Those Xizang’s are really a work of art!
DAVE HEMMINGS, now theres a blast from the past.
My first DH race was a local venue, missed the first run as was in the Woodman Pub, Bewdley. Got back to the top of the hill, chatting some nice young lady in lycra, Dave Hemmings missus. My run came up, he was next, I rode no brakes most the way down lol. Didn't want him catching me 😆😆😆😆
Finished 82nd out of over 400, so must chat up more pro riders GFs next time 🤘🤙👍
Nothing beats the originals and i love the music at the beginning
10:19 look closely what doddy is doing in the background
real nice vid btw
lmfao
Nablo having a cheeky one trailside
"nature calls"
pretty sure he is shaking up that beverage, even though it probably was not necessary. Which is pretty lame, when you have to fake stuff in these videos.
@@ScottYarosh you know what? He did not fake anything as hes clearly done it just to show off in front of the camera where nobody else could see him...
Doddy has some serius skills! Amazing
This brings me back! Still have my old GT Timberline and Avalanche and still have fun on them! Catching the salami is no fun though. I love these retro vids!
Doddy is the king, he ripped them apart in 2 seconds
The challenge videos are sooo entertaining, more please!!
Also a good idea, do a challenge where you guys build a bike on a tight budget and have to do a set of challenges to see who’s built the best bike ;)
Excellent idea!
great idea, but there may be some issues with sponsorship.
This is the 5th comment I have made in relation to budgeting bikes ect! There is so many amazing ideas for gmbn to notice!! The number of people with ideas like yours is unreal. We really are a community!! One of us will get noticed eventually!!
Love that Lava Dome! And rad that Neil has upgraded with huge fat tires and the 1x gearing. Nice looking steel rig.
They look so rough to ride ;D
Moment of silence for Doddy.
We need more of Doddy! He's an utter laugh
An epic ride/bikepacking adventure on the retro beasts would be pretty interesting. Points awarded for the least repairs required along the way!
I am grateful for the advancements in mountain biking. Back in the day we didn't know that what we rode could be better, we just road what we had. It wasn't as much about what type of trail you road, as it was a bunch of folks getting together to ride on dirt and in the woods. The first mountain bikes we had were rigid front and rear and you felt like your whole body was numb after riding the trail. My hope for the future of mountain biking is to continue to advance, but never forget the past and the main reason mountain biking came to existence. Have fun, ride whatever you have, make friends and make great memories.
I LOVE retro challenge!!! Blake "this is good for motorbike noises" had me in stitches ahaha
This is a great video, definitely know that you're heading in the right direction when you've got Blake flying sounding like a 250, heaps of laughs, good job boys :)
I remember those days I'd put a can on my back wheel every time i finish my drink after a ride and let everyone know I'm coming home, finally stopped doing it ever since the day it slashed my tyre.... hahaa memories :)
Score for the GT 🤘
Still riding my GT All Terra Outpost Trail. Triple triangle 4130 chromoly steel. The large frame with the extremely long stem has my head in the clouds but my baby is smooth, solid and absolutely gorgeous!
Still great for cruising, trail riding, camping, bike hiking and messing around with the grand kids in the cul de sac.
Great to see you guys have held on to your old faithfuls.
Will not even consider single track at speed faster than I can walk though😉
That was fun, had me in stitches. Thank you!
It has to be Doddy that is so retro. But for out right lunacy it has to be Blakes motorbike impression !!!! cheers guys loving the retro stuff.
The Moment he jumped with that sound from that can i nearly pissed myself hahaha high quallity content !! 😁👍
Doddy in the car park skills riding a wheelie while drinking from a water bottle!!! Too awesome!!! Should’ve gotten 10pts for that move! Great video. 2-👍🏻
this is entertaining to watch! Doddy looks so natural riding that retro GT
The 'smiles per mile' factor of old bikes can't be understated. I've never seen you guys laugh so much on a ride out.
So stoked! My only MTB is retro, and I ride it all the time on gnarly trails. It's cool to see you all representing the retro bikes. They can still be great fun, especially if you upgrade the components. I'm riding a 1996 Litespeed Obed F/S titanium full sus, 80mm travel front and rear. I've replaced every component on it, changed to wide bars instead of that narrow bar madness, and it still rips!
Glad to see some content with Doddy riding.
Loved hearing Blake shout out Doddy’s name, they sound like kids out having fun lol
Gmbn is like mtb top gear
wow watching these guys fooling around is just so much fun! feels like I'm there with them!
Bone shaking and sausage smashing is the best descriptor of 1990s mountain biking I have ever heard, it is 100% accurate!
I started mountain biking this last year on a fully rigid 26" bike. Seeing how much you guys hated your bikes suspension or lack there of, and how much I still enjoy my bike, Its hard to believe just how much better a modern mountain bike is in comparison.
Wow Doddy, looked like he's in his natural habitat, showed off some skills :D
My favorite part about Doddy's GT might be the original Selle Italia Flite. That thing would cost a pretty penny on its own right now.
You beautiful people!!
Why just retro week??
I'd like retro month
I just bought a 2004 Gary Fisher Tassajara to add to my stable so retro week really speaks to me
1996 GF Tassajara, fully rigid, bought to ride abandoned railway tracks (ties/sleepers removed) and about only thing I want to upgrade are hard rubber grips to have more dampening for arms.
This reminded me so much of the beloved old Top Gear. I would LOVE to see you guys explore that format.
Fun on ANY working bike really, good job, thx all!
Of course. The GT dominates. Since 1972. Love em!
100% my score go's to Doddy full titanium GT & XTR like how lucky a pure 90's XC racers pin up 😍. Oh yes how's the sausage Doddy? - looked like pure squashing/crushing pain......was fully expecting the high pitched Michael Jackson Impression!!!! 😂
Ha! Awesome! I just posted a video of my 1989 Kona fire mountain a few days ago. Great to see a lavadome from the same year.
12:40 That's some honesty in reporting!
-1 for Neil, 1990 Lavadome originally had Project 2 forks, those are not P2's for sure!
All the old by bikes are pure classic. Especially the old bmx they used to make.
..you three are the most fun guys to watch on YT..not only related to mtb..thanks a lot for your videos, your knowledge..and your humour in general
skkkkrrrttt who else is popping (thanks!) a retro bike keep providing quality content GMBN
pooping?
Neils face at 16:06 is the funniest thing I have ever seen HAHAHAHA
nice one neil, its like triggers sweeping brush!!
Love These Challenges Just Shows You Can Shred On Anything
Nearly spat my tea out watching this. Absolutely great. What was that last trail you flew down, looked really nice.
These challenges are cool! Do a bmx downhill challenge next
That snowflake wheel looks mint!
thank's for keeping vintage bikes alive with your videos! I try to keep some of the vintage ones (mostly Cannondale) on youtube "keep on pedalling" alive.
Love these retro bike segments!! 👍 The GT is super nice but Neal's rigid Kona really gets it! Blake is a classic all around.
Doddy knows what's good... GT gang for life
Because of OP music for a moment I thought this is Abroad in Japan channel :D
oh dear daddy doddy. haven't seen gmbn presenters this dorky ever, excellent episode
😂 That was an ace video, looked so much fun.
Riding a retro/older bike does show how far bike technology has come.
Awesome stuff Blake, Neil and Doddy 👊🤟
#GMBN
Lol Doddy shaking up his "can" in the background at 10:20
It was a lot of fun to watch you guys!
I also owned a 20+ years old Schwinn Woodlands, which I liked very much but unfortunately it was stolen a few years ago.
Cheers from Budapest, Hungary.
Not having a replaceable derailleur hanger shortened the life span of my old mtb bikes. The replaceable hanger is probably the most under rated frame tech to come out of the 1990s.
The editors at gmbn and gcn are top notch
Blake shotgunned that with no hesitation you love to see the instincts kick in
Doddy's got skills. And easily the coolest bike
Something tells me Blake has smashed a few wobbly pops in that manner before.. great form ol son.
Biased to Marin as that’s my current ride, but Doddy and that GT got it in the bag.
Each video is better than the one before..... don’t know how you do it, but it’s awesome.
You guys are so original and experiment so much with your videos it's awesome
Think you should try another new v old. But this time build a new old stock frame with 2019 parts. Maybe on a 2009 full suspension frame. Should make interesting viewing
wicked idea
But most new parts won't fit the old standarts, for example modern forks wouldnt fit into the old narrow headset. But just seeing what basic upgrades would to to the bike would be nice. A wider handlebar is probably the most important change
@@gaz2188 I'm sure GMBN could sort something out. There good at problem solving!
@@gaz2188
Yeah, that's pretty much what I found out when I thought about reviving my old late 90s XC rig.
Just not worth the trouble, plus none of the choice parts will really be compatable.
Everything today is beefier, axle standards changed, hub spacing and chainstay designs changed to suit wider range rear gearing, wider tires, and larger wheels,
Handle bar diameters changed, brakes have gone to almost exclusively disc in MTB (issue if your 90's frame doesn't have disc brake mounts)
Fork steer tube standards changed, headset designs changed, BB standards changed.
To do a full ground up build using the best 2019 parts on a late 90s frame... its gonna be a PITA.
It seems that there's a whole community of like minded people for stuff like this!! The number of people wanting them to do more on retro and older bikes. Honestly, I am of the same belief. I have already commented something very similar to somebody else today about wanting gmbn to notice us one day!! We'll live in hope. If something of the kind happens we will all be buzzing!! Hope you get seen mate!!
Thank god for good suspensión! - that looks so hard hitting it ratles the joints watching them old bikes riding!
Hahahaha background music was so accurate! lol
This challenge is insane man. I remember the past. Super classic it feels 1990's again. Love this video. 👊
Retro week has been great watching this episode gave me as many chuckles as you guys had
You want to talk retro? I have a 1981 Murray Baja 10, it's heavy and it's only a 10 speed, but it's a original mountain bike. It's also one of the first to roll of the production line, within the first 50 made.
If you're wondering how I got it, I got it after my grandpa passed away about 10 years ago. We were cleaning out his barn and found it in back, and didn't have anything to do with it, so in essence I got it.
To this day I still ride it, but I've since motorized it so I can do 20mph and get about 90mpg doing so. I'll take it off when the engine goes out and ride it for real when that day comes.
"That's wheelee good".... Glorious
Yes, i had lava dome race light! Awesome bike.
This was absolutely brilliant. I was in stitches the whole time
It's so good to see y'all on those bikes, loved every minute of it.
11:39 great editing! loved it
lmao! love these retro challenges! bring them back!
Classic! Good times for all. Love the video editing as well.
I collect retro mountain bikes, so im definitely watching every video this week.
More doddy flexing his skills please!
This is so funny to watch, more something like this!!
Retro Week will always be the most fun event on GMBN❤️
I just restored my old man's 1992 Marin Bobcat Trail 3 n 90% of the components are still original except tires, seat n grip. Still riding it like a dream!
Poor Doddy’s sausage. Haha😂😂. These presenter challenges are awesome. More please😁😁😁😁
Love this! Lol....the bars on doddys bike!!
Looks like the brake levers are nearly touching, so narrow!🤘
Doddy needs to get out and ride in more videos! Dude rocked the parking lot!
One of your best vids. It brought back great memories of the late 90s
I love my 97 klein attitude comp Hardtail XSmall. The only thing i changed was the clip pedals to flats, and the rock shock coil,i had to replace with a air rock shock. They just don!t fix anything anymore. The bike fits well, and it does the job for me. Great Video on Retro, keep them coming.🚴✌
Thats it, im definitely getting a hardtail, end of the year
