@· Noï · African is not synonymous with black, my point is that many Dominicans up here in the northeast around Boston and NY, deny their blackness even when their features say otherwise. Dominicans are mostly full or mixed black Caribbeans yes, with African roots. Not just Dominicans, many other black Latin Americans do so. European colonizers brainwashed them into believing that only white is good.
To say that Dominicans are not African because DR is in the Caribbean, is the same as saying an Asian American isn't Asian just because they were born in the US.
· Noï · (Dominican here) Although black doesn’t equal African all black roots can go back to Africa, for it is the birthplace of black people. We were taken from Africa to the DR, same with many other countries in the Caribbean. It’s like how black Americans aren’t “technically” African but they have African roots. We may not be directly african, but it’s in our dna
I've noticed most of the food is similar to west African food. They also eat alot of plantain. Maybe do a video of eating west African food for the first time?
I'm from Puerto Rico, and yes, alot of our food comes from our African ancestors, some of our BEST dishes too!!🖤🖤🖤

I love sancocho !!! My grandma from PR used to throw the kitchen sink and the pigs feet in her sancocho and it was so good !!!! Them tostones look nice and thick .....they were sexy .....but you know what I did not see .......my favorite spanish restaurant in here in philly used to dress up them tostones with an garlic oil or garlic butter sauce right after coming out of the fryers !!!!! Them tostones were to die for . You can literally have just the tostones to eat alone. I went from making tacos for dinner to some tostones con ajo , aguacate , arroz blanco con habichuelo roja .........with an oven baked honey glazed chicken !!!!! I knew I threw you off with my HONEY glazed chicken ......but listen it's really good. WEPA to all my latino / latina / afro families out there. One love !!!! Let me hit up this kitchen ....real quick .

@@KiraiBK .........In north philly freddy & tony's back in the day !!!!! I think there still there. That restaurant bbq sauce for the chicken ......you can literally drink from the bottle it was that good before.

The owner of that bar was on Bar Rescue and he was shown openly cheating on his wife and then you see the wife throw divorce papers at him. I guess that it didn't work out cuz I did not see her. But other than that, I guess he is doing somewhat good for himself.

Looks delicious all of thaaaaaat. I'm Colombian and we prepare sancocho, as well. SAME WAY. Didn't have any idea that DR had it, too. I love how connected we are. We also have chicharrones, but not that type of chicharrones. I mean, in here they're not made of chicken but of pork belly. 🤤
In DR there are not just only made of chicken we have orejitas and pork too

I lived, not in the Heights, but right on the border in Harlem (which was still mad Dominican) for several years so I miss all the Dominican spots where I could get good sancocho. Now I live in a hick ass town In Georgia and j don’t think I’ve seen a single Dominican since I’ve been here much less the food. 😭😭😭😭😭I almost cried when I saw Bustelo at one of the grocery stores lol.

I mean sancocho is most Caribbean like DR,PR and Cuba. Sancocho is from African Roots. But it mostly the Caribbean islands that developed the dish.
