I'm the same way. For me though, I think it's because during the day is when I have to do adulting stuff like work and appointments. And at night is my free time to do what ever I want. And I don't want it to end so hours go by before I realize the sun is up.

• a cup of water every 1-2 hours
• healthy food with lots of protein
• take breaks (but don’t let yourself fall asleep during those breaks)
This is what I do. I can’t take power naps, I’ll end up sleeping for five hours. I also don’t usually feel hungry when I’m sleep deprived because it generally makes me feel sick and nothing sounds appetizing but SERIOUSLY EAT SOMETHING. Not eating will make it worse.

The 7-8 hours of sleep thing is bullshit. I survived 3 years of high-school on 5 hours of sleep every night and still managed to get decent grades. I just slept a lot during the weekends.
This will catch up with you HARD. And when it does, it really sucks and will be with you for life. The sooner you're willing to re-evaluate this opinion, the better off you'll be.

I'm right there with you. Christmas break absolutely wrecked my sleep schedule because I screwed around so much during the late hours. And now I gotta get up at 6:00 am to get ready. And yeah, from experience, you're better off not sleeping at this point, because you'll feel way worse if you try to fit that little bit of sleep in.

To function like a normal human you're supposed to sleep in 2, four hour sessions. We adapted to sleep in the hottest part of the days and coldest parts of night, not one long 8hour shift

I'm surprised they didn't mention napping. Short naps of less than 20mins can really help wake you up if you feel like you're falling asleep at your desk. Just take a quick one on your break. Note though, that the more sleep deprived you are, the quicker you will fall into the deeper stages of sleep, and the goal of the nap is to wake yourself up prior to reaching deep sleep as waking up in that stage will give you sleep inertia (you will feel tired).
I don't understand napping... do people really fall asleep so quickly? I take at least an hour to fall asleep and that's at night, I don't think I possibly could fall asleep in the day.
If you're sleep-deprived you will start nodding off. If you're not sleepy during the day then you don't need to nap. There is lull in our circadian rhythm in the afternoon (around 3PM) so it's easier for us to nap around that time. Most primates will nap for a few hours during this time in the wild.
yes you could take a nap, try to wake, realize how tired you are and say screw it. i say take antihistamines with caffeine

Uhm, so I may be the only one, but every time I pull an all nighter I forget after some time (mostly half a day) that I haven't slept. Somehow it feels unreal to stay up for so long and to probably keep me from going crazy, my brain just tricks me😂 Like, I *know* I was awake but I feel like I dreamed it. Does anyone else have that?
And that's why I pull all nighters if I can't sleep
It takes a lot of discipline, but what I would call "dynamic naps" really works the best I find. Just shut your eye's for 30-45 min without falling asleep when you start to feel groggy and you'll feel like you just woke up for the next couple hours. This technique has gotten me through 30 hour days. But be warned, practicing this could cause you to start a habit called "hypic jerk" where you jerk yourself awake when you're actually trying to fall asleep!
Tips Ive found useful over the many sleepless nights,
1. Avoid hotter drinks in the morning and go for iced coffee instead, it’s easier to fall asleep when your in a warm environment and the sakes for what your drinking, in my case at least
2. Try taking a shower that morning, it helps me be more alert if I’ve not slept that night but am somehow still tired it just wakes me up and I’m usually in a better mood after
3. You might not feel like it but if you dress up a bit nicer and do your hair/makeup and pretty much just clean up a bit it usually boosts your mood even if you didn’t feel like bothering before, but don’t go so far that your uncomfortable
4. If you have studying or your doing paperwork or something listen to instrumental music or normal music with the volume rlly low to keep focused a bit and avoid dozing off
5. Instead of turning s light on open the blinds or something, this is more of a personal preference but I always feel like natural light is so much brighter and puts in a pretty good mood
6. Ice cold water. I usually have this nearby at all times when I haven’t slept bc it’s cold which wakes you up but it’s just good to drink a lot of water xD

I was sleep deprived at school today. Went through the whole day on 3-4 hours of sleep. I couldn't think straight. I would lose my train of thought. I messed up on speaking a lot. My mind wondered. It's true that you are more alert when you first wake up. By the end of the day I was exhausted. I honestly don't know how people survive on little sleep often.

I literally had industrial design classes a few semesters ago, and I can remember vividly pulling an all nighter, going to class most of the day, coming home, getting some brief sleep, working on projects all day the next day, and then pulling another all nighter.

8 hours sleep? Really?? I never sleep more than 5 hours tops duringweek days and I feel perfect, no naps either. The more you sleep the faster will your life end. Think about that
But you wont remember shit because most of ur time has gone sleeping.. one who lives 50 years and sleeps 5 hours a day has more memory of life because conscious living than someone whos 70 and slep 8-10 hours a day.. pretty logical
