As a 57 year Raider supporter and fan these four Gentleman as far as I am concerned were the best Secondary in Raider History. They struck fear in opposing team's receiver's hearts making them drop balls and still got slammed to the turf in agony.

I only got introduced to the NFL in 1984 but been a Raiders fan ever since. Unfortunately never got to see these guys play live but what true legends they are. They certainly were the epitome of Raiders defences.

The origins of the soul patrol actually started in the Fred Williamson the original number 24 played defensive back from 1961 to 1964 Al Davis was his head coach for two of those years he was not afraid to take someone head off big fast and strong also George Atkinson as you stated was a two-time all afl defensive back in fact during the 1968 AFL championship game he intercepted Joe Namath late in the game we should have won that game and played in super bowl III I know all of this because I was born in 1960 in Oakland just like the Oakland raiders I will forever remember those AFL days !

Williamson as you know was THE HAMMER he was the original MEL BLOUNT a 220 lb DB. Al Davis according to Williamson traded him because he got into a fight with two white guys on the team because they acted like they never saw a BLACK MAN take a lousy shower. The game vs the Jets was that the infamous HEIDI GAME???????

Have to be considered the best
of the 70's defensive back field , would argue they could match level of 83 Raiders secondary

Nah if Skip would had caught the ball instead of during aloof stuff like Kick the ball or slap. I agreed

I'm a raider fan we need to get your facts straight 5 yd contact zone was attributed more to Mel Blount. And in the beginning you imply skip Thomas in the Hall of Fame is not The only one in the Hall of Fame is Willie Brown I'm a raider fan I know my radar history

Ya. Ya wrong. The Steeler WRs were scared silly of those guys and for good reason. Look up head to head stats.

Skip Thomas is not in the Hall of Fame.
Willie Brown is the only one of the four that is in the HOF, although I believe Jack Tatum should be.
The hit on Darryl Stingley is what people are using against him to keep him out.

The SOUL PATROL won one SUPER BOWL, SUPER BOWL 11 VS THE VIKINGS 32-14 , BY 1980 AND 1983 THEY WERE ALL GONE OR RETIRED.
