I think shunjinko might work great with sindel, since her biggest weakness is that she doesn't have that mutch variaty and she can become predictible, i feel like shunjinko would help a lot with that
Shujinko is one those kharacter that can use as a very unpredictable assist in a long run. Especially for the player who masters all the available fighters.
I've only used him so far. His down back move is great against most characters and people not using him makes it even better. Hearing smoke players loose their minds when Baraka goes invisible is my new favorite thing.
I couldn’t agree more. I cannot wait to see where Shujinko lands after a year of the game being out. He had a ton of potential! I knew he wasn’t going to b a kameo that was very popular in the beginning of the games life cycle. We all have way to much to learn with all the characters. Within a few months we’re gonna b seeing some insane applications with him! Watch! Calling it now! SHUJINKO WILL B A TOP TIER KAMEO in the end 👊🏽
With how variable Shujinko as a kameo can be I don’t see a world where he sees any serious play in competition and I could only see it getting worse as more characters get added. Especially because in the world of competition consistent gameplans are what you need to go through a full bracket comfortably and I don’t think that’s something Shujinko provides. However, I will say Shujinko excels at being a cool, unique, and fun demonstration of how crazy Kameos can be in this game.
A way of using Shujinko I found is the "bodyguard": positioning him in the middle allows to tank a projectile, an attack, etc... I'm not good enough to take advantage of this, but that looked fun when I tried in Lab!
Great video guys. I love that you are looking at all aspects of this game, not just the popular ones. Also loved seeing some high level Lui Kang play, because let's face it, nobody is playing him. Cheers.
I'm thinking shujinko will be explored more once players start feeling more comfortable with most of the fighters. In my opinion, picking Shujinko right now would be like picking Mokujin to learn a new tekken game.
The build meter on top of remembering assist matchups is ridiculously hard to retain in your brain when you also need to account for yourself, the opponent, AND their kameo as well.
Exactly, trying to balance all of the moment-to-moment gameplay is already a complicated enough task and adding all the fiddling around with managing Shujinko's meter and having a requisite knowledge of what moves he takes from each character is just asking too much from most players.
I think he’ll start being popular as the game progresses. At least he’ll get more people playing him. A big thing is complexity, I mean how do you practice combos with him if his full potential is limited to who your fighting? Kinda like Shang Tsung to unlock all the combos he’d need to practice with not just his but also for any character. So he has crazy potential but you need to W O R K for it. So maybe more popular in higher tiers with players being more willing to put in the effort but I don’t think he’ll be all that popular in lower tiers or more causal play.
I personally really enjoy using them but he's definitely very weak at the moment maybe if they gave him an ambush he'd be more useful right now all of his stuff is summon
Awesome video. I love that there's so much unknown about the game right now. I found my main in Tanya/Scorpion right now, loving Reptile, trying to make Havok/Sektor/Cyrax work, trying to make Motaro work. I can't wait to see what people do with Shujinko, especially in tournament play.
Shujinko's moveset is actually hilarious if you think about it. Coming in, hitting your opponent then meditating. I remember doing that to NPC's a lot back in Deception. Knock them out, meditate until they get up, then hit them again 😂
I love using Shujinko it’s awesome because when you send him running you can really scare your opponent with an empty threat. He can eat projectiles for you and stuff too. It’s so fun pulling out raidens teleport or smokes invisiblity at the end of a round to really get the drop on your opponent
Im sure u guys know all this but this is what I’ve learned with Shujinko paired with Reiko: when spawned for meditation, he eats subzero’s ice ball, scorpions spear, frost’s ice slide. Im a casual trying to get better but this has won me many rounds towards the end when i spam ex shurikens. He does recharge when hit tho. Also, using Reiko’s b3 connects with shujinko’s spear, mileena’s roll, etc.. Many moves like shijinko’s baraka’s are also plus on block giving crazy chip. U guys are great
Thanks for the video, Shujinko is definitely one of the kameos that I was looking forward to use, but I haven't because I'm still barely learning the game and getting used to what tools the characters have and how to use them or counter them I used to main Impostor Shinnok in MKX, so I surely appreciate having Shujinko in this game that does pretty much what Shinnok did
Appreciate the video. Honestly Shujinko is better than I thought, recharge during combos and throws, stolen moves are mostly good (almost against everyone you steal projectile and/or launcher). Good job!
That’s because Shujinko takes the longest to earn. I want to use him but I still haven’t unlocked him lol, give it a few months when everyone has him unlocked.
I think it's similar to Shang Tsung, when Shujinko copies the opponent , the move is "Buffed" when he uses it. Likewise when Shang morphs to the opponent, his attacks are stronger than his opponent. "Anything you can do, I can do better, I can do anything better than you!"
Such a cool concept, reminds me of The Morrigan fro SMITE her ultimate ability is to turn into anyone from her team or the enemy team. Forcing you to learn a bunch of characters in order to maximize what you can do as her.
I love the call back to Shujinko's meditation. Can't blame him for getting his while he's doing that, for him it was probably like a tenth of a second passed!
I get the feeling that Geras mains have to be extra careful against Shujinko. That times stop can be really even more dangerous in other characters hands.
from what ive seen in this video where this guy tests out reptile + shujinko combos with every enemy character, yeah he has ALOT of potential. of course the only problem is the fact you have to know EVERY character but i think with the right amount of practice it'll be worth it
For shujinko against Shang tsu it looks like he stole his buff to the body change meter instead of stealing shujinkos camo. It should just give and increase damage to both you're own cameo and your fighter for a certain amount of time. Time stamp to what I'm talking about is 8:34
To clarify, as shang Tsu if you meter burn or enhance his body change shang will turn into that character but with a buff damage overall I think it's a certain percentage but im unsure. For instance if you do a fatal blow instead of the normal 330 it does it'll do like 401 something like that. I believe that shajko steals Shang tsus buff of his body change if you fight shang tsu with shajko rather than it doing nothing they both literally have the same effect btw.
5 months later and I've been using Shujinko for about a month now and he's so much fun (depending on the matchup, there are matchups where his moves aren't as rewarding, example Johnny, Baraka, Nitara...) I've been using him only with Smoke and he works really well with him. Smoke's combos are long enough to charge him and when you use his db kameo extender you can get juicy damage because Smoke's 32 string and his f121+3 string make it easy to hit confirm off of his launches. Especially if you need to clutch a FB at the end, you can get nearly 50% combos with Shujinko if you do Smoke's 1114, cancel into forward Shujinko, then the db for the launch and do your b&b Smoke combo into Fatal Blow Thanks for the guide, when I started to really pick him up I went back to this video
Didn’t know shujinko could steal opponents moves thought he just mediates and gives you life. I think he doesn’t get chosen cuz his old and should be in kill bill, but love doing his cameo fatality with the magic death touch that makes your heart pop out.
I've heard people(Twitter brain) saying he is bad. I'm glad this video clears things up! he is difficult and niche which is a barrier to entry but it's not a bad/good thing. It's neutral and will take some time to learn. My prediction is he is gonna be a counter pick kameo. A kameo to use when you have info on your opponent
I don't have the game myself, but I always told myself that when I can get the game I was gonna use shujinko regardless, because I just love him so much. His fatality too is amazing.
I like the simplicity of having just 2 attacks, a big and a little. They need to get rid of his meditation charge and just make him come out to meditate as a one off meditation projectile shield as his neutral. That and buff all of his moves.
shujinko is one of my favorites.. i am the type of player who "lightly" plays everyone to get basic combos and special moves understood.. shujinko works amazing for my play style..
All valid points but you missed one: he unlocks at profile level 20. I was planning on using Shujinko from the start but only unlocked him today. By the time he gets unlocked, a player has already experimented and found a kameo who works well with their main and is more consistently reliable strategically (e.g. Frost can freeze an opponent regardless of who it is). Plus, Shujinko requires a lot of knowledge of every character and what moves he copies from them.
Shang + Shujinko is brain meltingly complex. I'll stick with Reiko but respect to anyone who manages to unlock the combo's full potential!

Shujinko got done dirty, he’s the only Kameo without a brutality you can unlock
I think shunjinko might work great with sindel, since her biggest weakness is that she doesn't have that mutch variaty and she can become predictible, i feel like shunjinko would help a lot with that
Reminds me of gathering Phoenix's evidence in UMvC3. Love minigame characters like this!
11:32 That quitality-throw was satisfying
With how variable Shujinko as a kameo can be I don’t see a world where he sees any serious play in competition and I could only see it getting worse as more characters get added. Especially because in the world of competition consistent gameplans are what you need to go through a full bracket comfortably and I don’t think that’s something Shujinko provides. However, I will say Shujinko excels at being a cool, unique, and fun demonstration of how crazy Kameos can be in this game.
Because it only matters what's good in competition right? lol.
@charleshastings7260 Amen!
Everyone: who are you?
Shujinko: you but faster
A way of using Shujinko I found is the "bodyguard": positioning him in the middle allows to tank a projectile, an attack, etc... I'm not good enough to take advantage of this, but that looked fun when I tried in Lab!
I wish Shujinko was playable so bad... I LOVED his design in MK Deception. An Older, Wiser, Wizard looking type character lol.
I dread to think of playing Shang with Shujinko against Kenshi... so much Sento...
Thanks for the video! Had no idea what this guy was all about but love the character. Pretty complex!
The combo potential in this game is INSANE
FINALLY!! I needed this. Absolutely helpful.
I play him for the kill bill fatality solely
I had no idea that he could steal Sento. That's awesome. Great vid
I personally really enjoy using them but he's definitely very weak at the moment maybe if they gave him an ambush he'd be more useful right now all of his stuff is summon
That smoke invisibility is insane definitely gonna have to check that out now great video
Thank you I didnt get him at all
Thanks for the vid! And I loved the background music 😂
No one plays him because his name isnt "Sareena"
🙈 smoke sareena smoke sareena smoke sareena, mamma mia non-stop in ranked 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
When shujinko steals shujinko's kameo with shang tsung he gets a damage buff 8:37
U guys are great
Thanks for the video, Shujinko is definitely one of the kameos that I was looking forward to use, but I haven't because I'm still barely learning the game and getting used to what tools the characters have and how to use them or counter them
I used to main Impostor Shinnok in MKX, so I surely appreciate having Shujinko in this game that does pretty much what Shinnok did
That's sum interesting stuff about Sujinko, I think I'll look at him alot differently after this video, thanks! 👊🏽💯
Appreciate the video. Honestly Shujinko is better than I thought, recharge during combos and throws, stolen moves are mostly good (almost against everyone you steal projectile and/or launcher).
Good job!
Another reference. His meditation teleport animation is just like the meditating monks from MKMSZ.
I love shujinko. The game mode where you play as him was so iconic to me as a kid
I love the fact that the moves he stoles are better than the original, is like showing that he's a master in every aspect.
With all the MK1 hype, I hadn't heard anything about Shujinko. I had no idea he was in this game until I had a chance to play at my buddy's house

Why isn’t he popular ? - 9:00
“No you cant”
“Yes I can”
No you can’t
“Yes I can”
“No you can’t “
“Yes I can, yes I can,yes I can!”
Thank you for making this. I was wondering why no one really made a breakdown of shujinko
Your guides are always top tier.
While Shang Tsung steals other ppl movesets, Shujinko learned them himself.
The game hasnt been out long enough for people to completely master and be prepared for every possible scenario
Thanks man,it’s very helpful, you motivated my take him)
8:35 you get Shang's morph damage buff for your base character.
I played Shujinko once with my brother. He was Smoke. Shujinko stole invis and the anti air knife. Ever since I've hated him. XD
Shujinko requires a very very very skilled player who knows that roster like the back of their hand. Could be god tier in the right hands
Yo my guy mad respect for using keya tenpoin's theme from evilzone as your bgm!
from what ive seen in this video where this guy tests out reptile + shujinko combos with every enemy character, yeah he has ALOT of potential. of course the only problem is the fact you have to know EVERY character but i think with the right amount of practice it'll be worth it
For shujinko against Shang tsu it looks like he stole his buff to the body change meter instead of stealing shujinkos camo.
Thanks, this was really helpful. 🙂👍
If they ever do a Beatrix Kiddo Kill Bill DLC, i would play them as a pair specifically for that novelty.
5 months later and I've been using Shujinko for about a month now and he's so much fun (depending on the matchup, there are matchups where his moves aren't as rewarding, example Johnny, Baraka, Nitara...)
I've been using him only with Smoke and he works really well with him. Smoke's combos are long enough to charge him and when you use his db kameo extender you can get juicy damage because Smoke's 32 string and his f121+3 string make it easy to hit confirm off of his launches. Especially if you need to clutch a FB at the end, you can get nearly 50% combos with Shujinko if you do Smoke's 1114, cancel into forward Shujinko, then the db for the launch and do your b&b Smoke combo into Fatal Blow
Thanks for the guide, when I started to really pick him up I went back to this video
I found it’s best to use the full bar for shujinko when fighting baraka in a corner so shujinko can grab him with the claws
Love the Evil Zone OST at the beginning
Dude is this music from evil zone?!
I don't have the game myself, but I always told myself that when I can get the game I was gonna use shujinko regardless, because I just love him so much. His fatality too is amazing.
Shujinko and Shang were my first mains but I hate that Shujinko doesn't have any brutalities so I switched from him. But he is really fun to use
Rain + Shujinko must be a pretty technical duo! I’d love to see that.
Good to see our favourite mentor getting love
I like the simplicity of having just 2 attacks, a big and a little. They need to get rid of his meditation charge and just make him come out to meditate as a one off meditation projectile shield as his neutral. That and buff all of his moves.
I loved how Shujinko gets redeemed here. Been waiting on something like this for a long time.
shujinko is one of my favorites..
i am the type of player who "lightly" plays everyone to get basic combos and special moves understood..
shujinko works amazing for my play style..
I’m so glad I watched this video because I genuinely didn’t know what he did. This is so gas I have to try it now.
