My man, kinda offtopic for the video, but...
What they will do is use the new Pokemon Home to make all your pokemon hostage. You know how swsh has cut pokemon? So will every single one after them one, so that way they can LET you use the MONTHLY subscription to ALLOW you to KEEP your pokemon until you are ALLOWED to HOPE they will be in the next game. Then you can keep on paying to KEEP your pokemon after that. And any new ones too.
I like how you are the first to do the zubat run.
Please transfer this Zubat over to Gen 2 and let it evolve into a Crobat! It'd be fun to see it fully evolved when it's journey is completed!

Maybe, maybe if you breed a good Zubat with Destiny Knot and get one with perfect EVs and then pump it up with eggs moves use Attack and Speed with Adamant nature with physical or fast attributes, then yes it might work
Silph, don't you remember? a level 1 zubat with toxic could beat Lance's Dragonite, because the AI sees that his barrier and agility moves are psychic and therefore super effective. Also AI doesn't have PP so he can use those two moves indefinitely and will by the end die to poison xD.

It won't work in remakes.
The reason you beat lance was because of the mapping of gen 1. The Elite 4 are all coded with "Good" AI, in other words they always use super-effective moves. (Edit: not all elite four members have “good” AI. Lance does, so the rest of the comment still stands) Due to a coding oversight, the game does not check whether the moves are attacking moves before choosing. As a result, the psychic type status moves agility and barrier are read as being super-effective on the poison type Zubat. Dragonite and both dragonairs would be completely incapable of ever attacking zubat.
This is also how the All Terrain Venemoth took out dragonite in Twitch Plays Pokemon Red.

And yeah, most Pokemon players are pretty used to seeing it. But thinking about it, the rival kind of does have no chill for battling you in a graveyard tower and a building that's essentially held hostage by a criminal organization.
I am amazed at this Zubat.
You should go back and let Leechy evolve now, at lv 100. He deserves it.
Why would you want it to get weaker?
Good ol' gen 1 AI were they will use super effective moves on repeat even if it's a non attacking move. For example the agility and barrier with dragonite
Gen 1 AI always goes for a super effective hit when it has one. So Dragonite will always stick to Agility and apparantly Barrier when facing a Zubat because it recognizes psychic-->use against poison without checking if the attack does actually do damage. You can literally catch a Zubat from Mt.Moon and take it to face Lances Dragonite, maybe teach it toxic to speed things up and you will never be in danger.
Use a Weedle against Dragonite
Drinking game:
Take a shot everytime he says a word that ends with "ly"
Or drink every time he says "and I'm like-"

I definitely want to see more videos of this type. I really enjoy these types of Pokémon videos because it shows what you really can do to make these games much tougher than they were intended to. This is probably the first video of this type I've seen that eloquently walks through the entire experience, so many others I've seen do lame cutaways way too often and the narrative is much lamer in comparison. Please keep doing these, this was excellent.

Very nice! I'm surprised you were able to do this with comparatively little trouble, all things considered.
Although a bit of info on Horn Drill, and other similar moves like Fissure. At 36:10 when you got OHKOed by it, it was because you were paralyzed. If the Pokemon is slower, and Rhydon most certainly is slower than Zubat, it can never land in Red and Blue.
This was nothing short of amazing. I have watched loads of challenges, but I enjoyed this one a lot because it wasn't a boilerplate challenge of "weak Pokemon > grind to level 100 > win the game" because that feels like it is a guaranteed path to success for any weaker Pokemon. Zubat is actually semi decent and you put in the work! Nice job!
Also: Leech Life actually has a niche in Gen I games, due to Poison types being weak to it. Leech Life gives Zubat a solid way of dealing with Grass/Poison types, which show up occasionally throughout the mid game.

I'm sure many already told you, but Lance's dragons use their psychic moves against you because that's your weakness, and gen 1 is dumb enough to use them even though they don't do damage
Huh I never knew the flinch mechanic was in Gen 1. I thought that was a Gen 2 addition.
Fun fact for you, the AI in the game will always use a super effective move... even if it's a status move (ie Barrier/agility Dragonite )

@@SilphSpectre I also want to say the video was very enjoyable. A lot of times when these challenge videos go over 20 minutes it's from a RUclipsr with little experience and can be very monotonous because they lack the knowledge to know what to cut and lack the entertainment factor.
Your video however, despite being nearly an hour long, was very enjoyable. Instead of being 20 minutes of "can this be done" it felt more like a journey of "here's what it's like to experience this challenge". I love the inclusion of random trainer battles that were surprisingly difficult (like the Butterfree bug catcher).
I also like how you didn't resort to cheese tactics like double team (though I don't think double team was a TM in R/B).

Poison being weak to bug was great in Gen 1, I'm not sure why they removed it. I have fond memories of sweeping Erikas gym with my Beedrill and its 4x effective bug move against all but Tangela.

woah that last challenge with champion blue was incredible. That was amazing beating him with nothing but Zubat. This was one of the most impressive non gimick pokemon runs I have seen yet. I would love to see if the same challenge is possible in Johto region.

This is just as amazing as that video I saw of someone beating the entire game without taking a single point of damage lol. Crazy.
Something you probably forgot about in this challenge, but it's completely understandable because of gen 1's many quirks, is that bug and poison are actually super effective against each other in gen 1 only. This means that leech life could've been potentially more useful on grass types than you thought, considering it would 4x effective on literally every grass type except paras, parasect and tangela.

Zubat is my favorite pokemon. So happy to see someone do a full play through with just Zubat. I actually play every game with Zubat as my starter replacer, except for Galar. Since he does not exist yet :(

Still, I commend you on your victory! Was not expecting you to beat the Champion on the first attempt either.
It's too bad Zubat did not make it level 100 though, maybe you should have gone for Cerulean Cave.
And Dewgong, Dragonair and Dragonite were only using non-damaging moves on Zubat because the game just took them as super effective moves thanks to useful gen one mechanics.
you did exactly what i always do dump my starter and replace it with a zubat and gastly. kinda unfair that i always have 2 starters but i love those guys so much.

Fun Fact! Based on how trainer A.I. was made, Lance kept using barrier and agility on zubat because they are psychic type moves. The A.I. was made to target weak points, and could end up using the same move forever because they had unlimited PP
