I did the damage calculations and you can do it...barely. You would need to crit every move, at least, with the following move combination: 1 tbolt and 2 quick attacks on pikachu, 1 thunder and 1 quick attack on espeon, three tbolts on snorlax, 3 thunders and one quick attack on venusaur, 1 thunder on blastoise, and 1 tbolt on charizard. You technically do not need one of the quick attacks to crit as you should only need to use 4, so you only require 13 crits. The chances of winning are therefore about 1 in 4.5 quadrillion. Even with the scope lens the chances of this happening are about 1 in 550 billion. Good luck.
Would it be possible to beat Red with Ditto's Struggle if it had max IV's/Attack EVs? What about if it had max HP EVs so it had more hitpoints, even while transformed? For all we know this ditto was awful, even for a ditto!
If you decide to do this in Gen 3, please consider making the Ditto shiny, because shiny Ditto in those games become the shiny version of whatever they transform into, which might be cool to see.
And being "Shiny" in Gen 3 isn't tied to specific IVs - unlike in Gen 2, where Shiny pokémon are almost always (if not ALWAYS) far weaker than their non-Shiny counterparts. :D
@@KizulEmeraldfire Actually, a shiny in gen 2 is a little stronger than average. All IVs except attack must be 10, and attack must be 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, or 15. One of my favorite things to do in Pokémon is look at the teams of the post game trainers and think “why are you not champion? Shouldn’t you be able to beat [insert champion’s name]”. So when you fought Blue my first thought was “shouldn’t he be able to beat Lance?” And then I remembered
Blue realised there's more job security in running a gym than being the champion; he doesn't have to give up his title every time a precocious preteen gets lucky
I say it’s pretty impressive how far you got with Ditto alone. You beat probably 99% of the game or so with one Pokémon and that is pretty damn amazing.

Maybe you could beat Red with the Metal Powder. In Generation II it boosts a ditto's defense and special defense by 50% even when transformed. You wouldn’t be able to heal but I think this would be an overall net gain
Huh. I'm surprised he didn't talk about that. For all we know, maybe he tried it and it didn't make up for not having Leftovers, but he didn't even mention it, so we have no way of knowing. I'd love for him to weigh in on this. Edit: Bulbapedia says the only way to get it in Crystal is to trade a Ditto from Gen I. Maybe Asprey considers that against the spirit of the challenge since it involves outside hardware?
A bit late, but that wouldn't make up for the inherent problem of the fight: damage output. Transformed Ditto does NOT have the damage to completely KO the opponent's team with moves, and by the time it can use Struggle, the remaining pokemon have moves that are just too strong. A 50% boost in Pikachu's low defenses wouldn't make much of a difference, Charizard would *maybe* have to use an extra Flamethrower, but at the same time Struggle wouldn't be able to kill Charizard in the most optimal circumstances. Using Metal Coat or Magnet would have a slightly better return in the impossibly perfect scenario, but, again, Charizard would pop up and use Flamethrower.
You can't hide that Colosseum BGM from me Mr. Asprey! I think it would be considered a win situation because according to Lance: "You don't get to be champion of the Pokémon League without knowing how to spam Full Restores!"
As a veteran who did a few challenges of the game, I would just run past everything until Vordt and kill Emma for the banner and fight the Dancer way before you are supposed to. Now kill her by turning into her and use her "Spinwheel of doom" attack to kill her. Now run past everything in Lothric Castle and get some equipment to get some benefits (Like Strength Ring (+5 levels to Strength stat) and the Red Tearstone Ring (20% Damage boost when at 20% (or lower) HP.) Next with your OP Dancer form, play to the Cathedral of the Deep and to the DLC and play it up to Slave Knight Gael and turn into him, then leave. And that's it, now you can blow through the whole game.

I find it funny that even if Pokemon who aren't pink use transform, they will turn into a pink version of the thing they transformed into. I remember teaching transform to a Smeargle and also getting transform randomly when my Togepi used Metronome an and it would always be pink. Guess the devs figured that most of the time the only Pokemon who can use transform naturally are pink (Ditto and Mew) so it wouldn't matter.
I think if you even get to Red with just a Ditto, you're allowed to relax a little on the rull restore rule ;) Well done dude! This looked.....horrendously tedious
As much as I'd love to see how different a Heart Gold/Soul Silver version of this challenge would be, the new Struggle mechanics would make doing it by your rules impossible.
In the interest of more strategic flexibility, I have two suggestions: 1. Use two dittos 2. Allow the use of ethers on untransformed dittos in battle, once per battle Changing the rules to include these would allow you to reset transformations and delay transformations using struggle, therefore giving you more options in battle. At the very least, allowing ethers would let you skip the first pokemon in a gym battle, so your transform could be of a more capable pokemon. That way not every battle is just “spam struggle”.
I would've settled for allowing items mid battle so he could just restore PP after a decent Pokemon came out. Maxing the ditto's level and then struggling is a bit boring.
This is almost a year late but I think the idea of Jasmine's Steelix knowing Sunny Day is for weakening Water moves, which it is weak against. Unfortunately it boosts another type Steelix is weak to... @@inflatablemattress2 Doesn't that ability can be a blessing and a curse. Blessing because you don't need to take a turn to transform, but a curse as if the opponent has bad stat and bad ability on his first pokemon
@@fifaworldcup1994 But he can't go into a battle with struggle ready. Because when ditto transforms, it always has 5 PP on all of the moves the other Pokémon knows. It also means he'd need to burn 20 turns before starting to struggle for every battle if the first Pokémon has 4 moves.
The reason mirror move failed is because the move was what broke your gen 1 runs. What happens is when you use mirror move, it uses one PP, then the copied move takes another PP. Because of this, it adds back one PP to the move slot. You couldn't struggle in gen 1 because it gave you one extra PP in an empty move slot, meaning you had one PP left on that invisible move, so the game wouldn't let tou use struggle. They stopped mirror move working in gen 2 when transformed to fix this.
@Charmiskit You get the castform just before it. You can still move out of the gym and deposit it, but when you try to fight them they tell you they can't unless you bring 2 pokémon at minimum. So early in the game he just has a to catch a low level pokémon and you replace the castform with that one before you go to the leaders. It will die on turn 1 before doing anything so Ditto still does all the work.
Yeah no,even if you manage to get past you know that point. And you manage to get to the elite fours. Although I cannot confirm for you that they will use what I say since when I played it I practically just 1 hit ko all of them except for Wallace and Phoebe. Sidney shouldn't be too much of a problem however, Phoebe will f*ck your sh*t up since her Dusclops had Curse and confuse Ray (trust me confuse Ray wasn't fun AT ALL) Then Sableye has double team. Then Glacia shouldn't be too much of a problem I mean I don't really know about the movesets but hail, explosion and sheer cold would be a small problem. Then there's Drake I don't think he'll be much of a problem. Then here comes Wallace he, like Phoebe will f*ck your sh*t up too mainly because of his Milotic and Ludicolo since his Milotic knew Poison and Recover while his Ludicolo knew DOUBLE TEAM! Like I remember him the most cause of his Ludicolo. It'll switch in and spam double team. And for Milotic once you bring it down to low health Wallace might use a full restore or just recover. (Bring lots of hyper potions and revies. ) I had to go again. I mean it was kinda my fault for not looking up their teams beforehand to know not to bring dragon types. I mean don't bring dragon types to this seriously unless it can one hit ko Milotic or if its name is Rayquaza. But it's sad to replace your beloved *insert random Pokemon* for a green snake.
26:00 that mirror move thing isn't a glitch, according to Bulbapedia. Rather, it was a way of preventing the glitch which you encountered on your ditto run of gen 1. Its failure prevents you from having to use it 256 times just to be able to use struggle.
@@green-6508 Not even in a row, just total, and in the same move slot - there's a video that should be linked in a pinned comment on his gen 1 video, but the basic thing is that because mirror move and metronome use two moves in one turn (first the mirror move/metronome, and then whatever move it copies) there was some code that came in after the move that added 1 PP to that move. But when you transform, you create a sort of temporary pokemon, but the code that updates mirror move/metronome's PP does it to your base form; so when you use mirror move/metronome when transformed, unless by some chance it is the first move slot move, you'll have an unusable move with more than 0 PP, which prevents struggling (since you can't use that move, but all of your moves don't have 0 PP) This is easier to visualize (and the video in question does so) with a Mew that knows Transform and 3 other moves; if you heal at a pokemon center, then transform into a mirror move/metronome pokemon, use the move, run, then look at the PP of the move that exists in that slot; it will be 1 higher than max (or where you left it if you've moved it since then, but that was the point of the pokemon center). Then the only way to fix it is to overflow that integer value by getting up past 255, the highest number it stores before wrapping back around to 0. But this is easier said than done, really, because you have to be *exact*
Could they not have just fixed the Transform+Mirror Move glitch? The glitch sounded more like an overlooked corner case than an actually difficult problem to solve.
I'm excited to see you run this in Emerald, as you get access to what could possibly make or break the run by itself: Leppa Berries. Extremely valuable, as you can go into a battle struggling, and then restore PP for transform part way through to transform into your choice of your opponents pokemon. On the other hand, I think this is the gen where struggle foes to 1/4 the users max HP, which probably makes it impossible by itself
@@kingandcountry1242 The pokemon will use it when it's first ability reaches 0 PP, with that said... I don't think it could be used in the way stated. However, it could (if it works in transform) be used to get more uses of an ability you get through transform.
The run would probably be a bit more fun, albeit less impressively difficult, if you allowed the use of PP-restoring items in battle but not HP-restoring ones. That way you could struggle-strat through a trainer's useless first-pokemon, then restore Transform's PP and transform into another pokemon midway through the fight.
@Dio Brando I apologize in advance for replying seriously to an obvious joke, but I thought you'd be interested to know the answer is... Maybe? So obviously, it's a no in the sense that you cannot progress without HMs. However, in at least one generation (I think it was Gen 2, but was definitely either Gen 1 or 2) I discovered you can win every single _battle_ without Pokemon. As a kid, I once used a gameshark to walk through walls around the trigger when you leave the starting town, and discovered that entering any battle without Pokemon caused the game to give me an automatic victory. So in theory, if you were to make the same rule as in Pikasprey's playthrough about HM slaves, but were to somehow have a hacked game in which you could keep them fainted in your party with no other pokemon, could store them after use despite them being your only pokemon or simply were to allow the 'walk through walls' cheat to bypass HM requirements, you _could_ beat the game.
I think Red, if anything, is a superboss, and not the actual final boss, since the difference in levels between the final gym leader and Red is MASSIVE.
Yeah, we should call it a good end. A good equivalent is the NES Legend of Zelda. No matter how you slice it, Ganondorf simply can't be beaten without the master sword, so when attempting the sword less challenge, everyone considers the game beaten just by getting to his room.
Considering that I STILL can't beat Red in the SoulSilver remake (they also made level-grinding more difficult for HG and SS than in other games, so my highest-level Pokemon other than an event Mew is actually Ho-oh), I'd say MISSION COMPLETE.
The moveset of npc trainers is weird, in US/UM by having a Ditto in my team I found that most trainer Pokémon have one or two moves, some of them even had just one stat boosting move like calm mind, others had useless combinations like quick attack + nasty plot. At some battles I was like dude wtf? Aqua jet only?
@@gengarzilla1685 Strangely, from my experience, the modern games are inconsistent with this. Several trainers (namely late-game NPCs) have very strong move sets that I’m sure a Ditto could take great advantage of.

Could it be possible to beat Red by using a Mystery Berry to restore Thunder's PP? Or are the extra five shots not enough/do you need the Leftovers recovery in order to survive even with optimal RNG?
@@beta511ee4 bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/MysteryBerry In summary, there's one in the Ruins of Alph, one held by a trade Xatu in Pewter, a couple trees on a couple routes, and wild Clefairy and Mr. Mime have a chance to be holding one.
The issue with that is that Thunder would have to be the move that expires first. Even if he did get the God RNG, I don't think he could get through Venusaur and Snorlax without ending up with Struggle, since the former resists and the latter has stupidly high sp.d and hp. The extra 5 shots would just be used on the walls, leaving him thunderless against zard. As if that weren't enough, it would also mean having to use Struggle without Leftovers recovery, meaning he might even die from Struggle damage without Charizard or Blastoise even coming out.
For Red, what about a *MysteryBerry* ? I think it could work with the optimal luck he showed last. So the game is probably beatable in theory, but not practically.
Yeah he probably could do it with a Mystery Berry. There is absolutely no way that is going to happen piratically, as the video has shown, but in theory it should be doable. According to Pokemon Showdown, in Gen II a Level 81 Pikachu with not EVs will OHKO a Blastoise with Thunder and 2HKO with Thunderbolt as long as they are both Critical Hits, and with Charizard both are 2HKOs. I don't know the exact number of times that an Electric Type move is needed to defeat the rest of his party (Combined with the 5 Quick Attacks), but if it's higher than 11, it's still impossible. If Red has Full Restores (I know for a fact that he does in the remakes but I don't know about the original gen 2), then it also might still be impossible.

its really getting hard to find videos on youtube that are made carefully with planing... most channels nowadays just put out boring videos every day. i really appreciate your dedication and hard work man. you are doing good content :)
The reason for most channels doing things like that is because of RUclips. You see, RUclips favors those that upload content daily and so most youtubers prefer to do simpler content they can upload easily.

"DITTOTWO is having an Existential Crisis!
DITTOTWO Fainted!"
In the interest of more strategic flexibility, I have two suggestions:
1. Use two dittos
2. Allow the use of ethers on untransformed dittos in battle, once per battle
Changing the rules to include these would allow you to reset transformations and delay transformations using struggle, therefore giving you more options in battle. At the very least, allowing ethers would let you skip the first pokemon in a gym battle, so your transform could be of a more capable pokemon. That way not every battle is just “spam struggle”.
ThatGastrodon it certainly would have made the game more fun for him.
He should EV train the ditto, I'm sure it's high but not maxed out, or start the the game over and over until you get a perfect HP IV ditto

@Charmiskit just beet emerald you dont need a castrophorm to beat them

26:00 that mirror move thing isn't a glitch, according to Bulbapedia. Rather, it was a way of preventing the glitch which you encountered on your ditto run of gen 1. Its failure prevents you from having to use it 256 times just to be able to use struggle.
Wait, so he could have been able to struggle if he used the move 256 times in a row on that save?
@@green-6508 Not even in a row, just total, and in the same move slot - there's a video that should be linked in a pinned comment on his gen 1 video, but the basic thing is that because mirror move and metronome use two moves in one turn (first the mirror move/metronome, and then whatever move it copies) there was some code that came in after the move that added 1 PP to that move.
But when you transform, you create a sort of temporary pokemon, but the code that updates mirror move/metronome's PP does it to your base form; so when you use mirror move/metronome when transformed, unless by some chance it is the first move slot move, you'll have an unusable move with more than 0 PP, which prevents struggling (since you can't use that move, but all of your moves don't have 0 PP)
This is easier to visualize (and the video in question does so) with a Mew that knows Transform and 3 other moves; if you heal at a pokemon center, then transform into a mirror move/metronome pokemon, use the move, run, then look at the PP of the move that exists in that slot; it will be 1 higher than max (or where you left it if you've moved it since then, but that was the point of the pokemon center).
RevenantBacon under what conditions does the Leppa berry trigger in battle?
@@kingandcountry1242 The pokemon will use it when it's first ability reaches 0 PP, with that said... I don't think it could be used in the way stated. However, it could (if it works in transform) be used to get more uses of an ability you get through transform.
Nope, that's gen 4. In fact, gen 3 struggle is why Leftovers on Wobbufett was banned during the gen 3 Nintendo metas.
Mystery Berries exist in gen 2.
Thanks, you've explained a lot.
It wouldn't be a Pikasprey video if he didn't have problems with Viridian Gym.

In summary, there's one in the Ruins of Alph, one held by a trade Xatu in Pewter, a couple trees on a couple routes, and wild Clefairy and Mr. Mime have a chance to be holding one.
The issue with that is that Thunder would have to be the move that expires first. just teach shuckle eathquake
@@informanteRP Shuckle's attacking stats are abysmal though.
That isnt that bad. Toxic stall is a thing
Steel types are your only challenge
@@GreeneBeau and shuckle has wrap and infestation. Mind bogglingly boring? Sure. Impossible? Nah
Geckoarcher infestation didn't exist in gen 2
Yeah, there’s no way u can step to Red with that BS. Very nice run tho, you won imo
“And the blob of goo hits him like a storm”.
This made me laugh like crazy.
If Red has Full Restores (I know for a fact that he does in the remakes but I don't know about the original gen 2), then it also might still be impossible.
ditto is a snack ngl
you are gay ngl
Nah brah Ditto can be anything so no homo
Dio Drando Facts
Ditto is a full blown meal with a nice beverage wys
Dude you're everywhere
Rip DITTOTWO. He just couldn't live up to his namesake, DITTO. Instead, he let all of us down like the failure he is.
To be fair, he lost to Red. Little guy still managed to conquer most of Kento and Johto.
@@KyanbuXM So he failed us when we needed him most, that's way worse
Thank you! Other people that I have watched who did an only-ditto challenge just used struggle the whole time, making it very bland. Thank you for actually using transform!
............. of course you can.
Yes my king
Yes my king
*n o m y k i n g*
Yes my king
Kes my ying
When you had your ditto intentionally paralyzed to prevent gengar from putting you to sleep when fighting morty.... I WAS SHOOK. So clever I'm literally shook
Wait, Pikasprey, did you never even try the Metal Powder? The items that boosts dittos defenses by 50% EVEN when transformed? It seems very weird that you never mentioned it, especially in it's debut generation.
He'd have to give up Leftovers for that, so I assume any benefit would be balanced out.
@@MuchWhittering Yeah but he mentioned the Light Ball, and both that and the Metal Powder are only obtainable by trading a gen1 Pokemon to gen2, so it's just weird he never mentioned it.
He was using the Light Ball as an example, I think. If it's only obtainable with the time capsule then he can't do it anyway.
@@KudaKeileon He could have capture-farmed
@@ignisbad9158 he's on an emulator and it's prolly against the spirit of the challenge
10:03, what are you talking about? Isn’t that what everyone clicked on this video for?
For all things considered, it is possible. Kanto is just extra credit and Red is a charity stream event that'll take a whole day
Can you do this for Emerald or HG/SS?
It would end at Tate and Liza in Emerald, as you physically cannot challenge them with only one Pokemon, which does give some unique dialogue
HG/SS is red turned up to eleven. The struggle glitch is replaced by the new recoil mechanic, except this time it will kill your main way to get things done right away from the the start.
WakeUpUniverse the struggle stray doesn’t work in gen 4
@@TheWizardMus technically, you could have an extra Ditto strictly for this challenge OR have an HM Slave be there with low health so it's dead first thing first in the battle.
WakeUpUniverse IMMA DO IT IN SOULSILVER YEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
Holy mother of Red, you absolute madman.
*You weren't done.*
10:07 no one came here to hear me say “and I used tackle on this rattata” for thirty minutes...
So I’m nobody
Always have been
I love how watching Pokémon Challenge videos always brings me back to Pikasprey.
Not sure how RUclips’s ads work but I can watch a half hour pikasprey video and get 2 ads (1 halfway thru and 1 which is at the very end and not necessary to watch), but if I watch any other 5-10 minute RUclips video I get 3-4 ads. Pikasprey if you’re choosing when your ads play I applaud you for being a standup guy and not greedy like these other youtubers out there who aren’t putting out nearly as complex content with over twice as many ads! Kudos to you and your channels!
I watch a half hour pikasprey video and get 0 ads. Then I watch any other 5-10 minute RUclips video and I get 0 ads! Why do people not use adblockers?
So they can support the content creators...
@@Initial_D_AE86 That's great, then turn off adblocker when watching content creators you want to support. But if you think people are being greedy and oversaturating their content with ads, then leave it on. It's as simple as that, don't come to the comment section to bitch about a problem that has an extremely simple solution. I know you weren't the one bitching, but you're the one acting like your counterpoint completely invalidates mine.
6:41 I'm an adult.
I got that reference
no pp left for this move
All of your videos are so well put together it makes them very rewatchable.
