Lovly memories. We made the trip 10 years ago. We rented a campingbus in Hamburg to avoid the horrible costs in Iceland. We made a 3 day stopover on the Faroe islands. That trip is one of our favorite holiday experiences.
What a great idea! Sounds like the best way to experience Iceland, too! May i ask what time of year you went, and did you have much of a problem with mosquitoes? I live in the American southeast and we have some ungodly bugs here (our giant roaches fly). My neighbors nephew was visiting from Iceland one summer, and the poor kid was flailing like a maniac everytime he went outside lol. That led me to believe Iceland is a place for me - bugless 😂. Bless,
It was nice to see Seydisfjordur again after more than 52 years. !n the summer of 1968 we, 3 of us, sailed in a 10 mtr sailboat from Delfzijl, Holland with destination Seydisfjordur. In the Northsea we had a force 8 Northwesterly on our way to Aberdeen and from there straight to the eastcoast of Iceland. Had pretty good weather and it took about 2 weeks to reach S. , flew to Reykjavik and visited the hotsprings. On our return trip the wind was bad and returned to Neskopstadur and waited for the storm to pass and set course to Thorshavn where the Dutch Consul invited us over for dinner and a nice hot bath and the next day of to Bergen, Norway and from there back ¨home¨. We had a bad storm along the way, but otherwise not bad. But many in Iceland told us the boat is too small for the North Atlantic, also they had never seen a sailboat in S. and everybody were driving Japanese Jeep type 4x4, as the area was secret testing grounds for Japenese 4x4s One day would like to take the ferry back to Seydisfjordur.
Wow!!! That is amazing! In those days "adventure travel" did not exist. You were pioneers and true adventurers. That was high risk and great fun. Congrats! You didn't have all the fancy cold weather gear either. If I wore a hat I would take it off to you! If you want to share any more stories I would love to read them...
Nicely done, but I would have liked some views of the cabins and other facilities on board - I understand that it is well appointed, but you did not show this to us.
Such an excellent video, lots of touristic information, Gorgeous scenery and of course breath taking views and I had no idea there was a Ferry from Denmark to Iceland and Vice Versa.
The Faroe Islands are proud of our ferry, but most of us loved the old Nörröna which was a bit smaller, but she was so cosy and warm:) she is still operating somewhere in south america as a christian aid ship if i am correct, not 100% sure:) Wonderful video btw👍❤️

Very cool video. Wish the ferry service from Newfoundland to Iceland still ran, would be nice to be able to ride/drive to Europe from North America without having to use an airplane.
I was inspired to go to Iceland in Feb.2017 after watching the thriller made there called 'Trapped' and I believe much of it was filmed around the port of Seyðisfjörður and based much upon the fictitious characters of this ship. I wanted to travel this exact route next time, so very pleased for the upload. All I know it would be a hugely expensive trip all in from Scotland.

I have been intrigued by this trip for a while so glad to find the video. I have flown to Iceland and would love to take my campervan there one day. It's not a cheap way to get there however. I took the ferry to Norway from Newcastle years ago and enjoyed Norway in the summer and then went back around 14 times in the winter to Ski.
Nice video! You wrote that "cruiseferry services also operate to Kristiansand" ...etc. But there is also a daily departure to Langesund in Telemark by Fjordline.
Prompted by this video I travelled on the Norröna on its Aug. 16-18, 2023 crossing from Hirtshals to Seyðisfjörður (delayed by a day owing to bad weather). It did not disappoint! No, it’s not like cruising with Viking or Carnival, but the old tub has a funky-friendly ambience that seems exactly appropriate to its workhorse duties. I was particularly taken with the bookshelves in the Deck 5 bar, where I spent a lot of time just sitting and looking out at the ocean. As in the video, the Faroes were the high point. Thanks for making me aware of this wonderfully unpretentious, down-to-earth treasure.
On my wish list. I'm in California and its 94 degrees Farenheight this summer day. Daydreaming of visiting Finland, Norway, Denmark again and seeing Iceland by ferry. Thank you for this wonderful chance to see this corner of the world.
Be prepared for some chilly weather whenever you visit. The highest it gets in Iceland is around 70 in July. I have been in winter and summer and would recommend to come in the summer. When the sun is out this place is something else!.

The Vikings were incredible seafarers. They were all over the North Atlantic. Scandinavia to Iceland, Greenland and the Canadian east coast, where they also had a settlement centuries before Columbus got anywhere near the Americas, is a well “plowed route”. The Vikings did this with sheer guts and ancient navigational tools. In those days seafarers new how to figure out latitude, but not longitude making navigation very difficult. It only became possible to calculate longitude after a British carpenter, John Harrison invented the marine chronometer in the 1730s.
@@julianneheindorf5757 ... Yes! The Vikings were remarkable seafarers, able and willing to venture out as far as weather and sea conditions would permit at any given season. And no doubt -- sailing among the massive snow-draped fjords -- its not hard to imagine that they could sense the reality of their ancient religion surrounding their day to day lives. I doubt they ever gave much thought to the idea of sailing too far and dropping off the edge of the earth.
@Riki Rikin kanayin If there is not one single month per year with an average temperature above 10 °C, no trees can grow. But there are trees on Iceland, not very many but some. (And parts of Iceland do have temperatures warm enough for that.)
Nice vid. My profile pic is the MS Norrona as I travelled there with my car from the UK in April/May 2016. We were delayed both outbound and on the return legs due to the weather. It was worse going out and at Torshavn we had to dock where the MS Smyril did in the vid and walked off the ship by the car deck. However, the ship is built for the North Atlantic and there is no bow door, so she is quite tough. Out of the many road trips I have taken this was by far the most rewarding. Understandably, the ship looked fairly quiet with leisure passengers and vehicles as it was early spring. If you take your car to Iceland you need to be prepared, especially with the changeable weather. May have been worth showing the cabins and the entertainment (guitar/vocalist on our sailings) for prospective travellers though. Good tip with the Happy Hour - that's exactly what we did!
